What Really Happens At Flight Attendant Recruitment days

Mascara, meltdowns and math --  what really happens at flight attendant recruitment days??

Written by:

If you're a perfect specimen of a well-adjusted human being, you might suit a career as a flight attendant. But it's not guaranteed

You probably do deserve a career involving free travel. But so do 100 of your competitors.

Friendly? Attentive? Beautiful? Got the potential to keep your head while ushering 300 nervous breakdowns onto an inflatable slide?
You could just be the ideal flight attendant.
But you’ll have to earn it.
An international airline receives an average of 15,000 applications for cabin crew a month, not including those in the cockpit, and recently I was one of them.
As well as the promise of a career circling the globe, the process I went through gave me an insight into -- and a huge respect for -- the men and women that fliers so often take for granted.

Apparently it takes more than being a tall, educated gazelle to get a job in the air.
After all, the success of an airline depends in large part on the cabin crew.
A 2012 customer service report on the U.S. airline industry conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers revealed that three-quarters of passengers say the airline staff contributes to a good flying experience.
I won't reveal which major international airline I applied for but when I read the prerequisites -- 21 years or over, high school graduate, and with an arm-reach of at least 212 centimeters -- I think it’s fair to say I was confident, even if that did describe half the population.
Come recruitment day and suddenly the gloves are off, the mascara and gel nails are on, and you realize your high school popularity counts for little in the cutthroat world of young people trying to bluff their way into a couple years of free travel.

Day 1: Open house

I arrive with around 1,000 other hopefuls, but after the initial screening session -- a group discussion of questions like, “Would you be reborn a man or woman?” -- we’re straight away cut to 100.
I’m one of the lucky ones to get through.
If that’s not ruthless enough, it soon becomes clear that candidates are required to have won the genetic lottery.
The next three hours are spent telling us about the airline and also what’s expected of successful candidates.
“To be a flight attendant you need to have nice, straight white teeth,” explains the head recruiter. “This is not like weight, it cannot be fixed short-term.”
Check. Four years of train tracks and headgear have done me some good.
“Light skin tone is also essential, and if you have acne that cannot be covered, that is a problem, OK?”
Nothing wrong with my skin a little foundation can’t fix. Check.
“Hair must be dark.”
He points to a girl with dyed auburn hair. “You. You have to spray that with something or change your color.”
My black roots are in. Check.
“Pimples, you must be able to completely conceal the pimples.
“And no glasses. You need a note from your doctor if you can’t wear contact lenses. But you must wear lots of mascara.”
So far it seems more like a beauty pageant than a recruiting day.
One girl who is told not to return breaks down in tears in front of the group. Maybe it's because of your hair, another kindly suggests.
Once we’re all gasping with insecurity about our appearance, the recruiter gives us an hour’s worth of personality tips on how to impress at the interviews next week.
Summed up: “Have a good attitude, smile, be honest, be demure, be excited, be confident, be polite.”
Be a Stepford wife.

Day 2: Interview day (a week later)

Twenty-two of the 100 invited candidates don’t turn up, a wisdom many of us envied by the end of the day.
The “interview” is a 13-hour marathon broken up into various rounds, each followed by the distribution of slips of paper indicating either success or failure to advance.
With every round, your entire persona, along with your assumed talents, are deconstructed and scrutinized.

One-on-one chat
At 9 a.m. the first interview takes place -- a five-minute one-on-one chat with one of the recruiters.
Barely anything is ascertained that they couldn’t have discovered from my résumé.
The hardest part is the hours of waiting around.
At the end of it, the first of the paper slips of death are distributed, cutting us to around 40. I make it through.

 Team ‘building’
Candidates have to work out two problems together, which, according to one of my co-hopefuls who has gone through the process at another airline, is meant to suss out teamwork and assertiveness.
The first problem involves building a famous landmark out of a stack of plain white A4 paper, a handful of paperclips and three rubber bands.
Having had a tip that the key is to be assertive but not aggressive, I assume the leader role, directing each girl, but carefully listen to suggestions too.
We construct the Bank of China Building in Hong Kong -- it looks like a scrunched up jumbo cigarette. The other team builds a beautifully layered Eiffel Tower and I start to worry.

Math and logic
The second problem is a group discussion where we need to decide who gets an upgrade: an unattended child, a mother with a baby, an elderly couple, a man with heart problems or the vice president of the airline.
I bite my tongue during our presentation as one girl messes up -- I don’t want to appear too domineering.
In the end, some candidates get cut despite having given logical answers.
“That girl in the gray skirt was too dominant,” whispers a recruiter. “She corrected another girls’ wrong answer when it wasn’t her turn. She didn’t listen.”
Now we’re down to 20, and I’m still in with a chance.

English comprehension exam
This written test is easy if it’s your first language, incredibly confusing if it’s your second.
It cuts the girls from 20 to 10 and once again I make it through. I’ve made the top 1 percent from the original 1,000 who turned up to the open day.
My hopes are getting raised, my dreams of a jet-setting, city-hopping life are starting to become focused, not just blurred dream-visions well out of reach.

Psychometric test
At the end of the long day we’re sent home, but the fun isn’t over yet -- we need to do an online psychometric exam at home before the night is over. There are no “right or wrong answers,” we’re told.
The questions are along the lines of: “Are you overly sensitive all the time, sometimes or never?”
Do they want me to be sensitive? That’s good for customer service, right? Or perhaps not. I need to be stoic and calm in an emergency. Right?

Day 3: Full interview (next day)

The next day the so-far-successful candidates are brought back for a 15-minute interview.
They ask about my work experience, discuss previous jobs and request two business attire photos and one casual dress photo.
This is so, along with the notes taken of the interviews, “the vice president can see how hot you look without your hair in a bun. There is an element of luck to get this gig,” says the recruiter.
This is not totally unreasonable, I think. Business attire does not do anyone justice and most Chinese girls look very similar in a black suit and with their hair in a bun.

The result

I didn’t make it.
My career pointing at emergency exits and trying not to spill drinks ended before it began, but I did come away with a huge respect for those who do.
It is clear that you need more than just a pretty face.
The 13-hour interview seems to me to be the key filter. It’s one big stress test to see how girls will respond to competition and long waiting hours.
It’s an efficient way to sieve out those lacking patience, since you have to wait hours between interviews.
Those who made it to the final round were beautiful, smart, bilingual, articulate and most importantly, very, very composed.

For Future Emirates Cabin Crew...what to bring along from home

Another blog post i discovered which i love and its filled with info and fun stuff....this part i totally agree with what to bring with you from home to Dubai. When i used to work as a crew for Etihad i totally missed these stuff and wished i could have known before....

For future EK cabin crew: what to bring along from home

  • a lot of hair clips (there are some here in dubai but its not always the best ones, not the right color or size)
  • stockings!! you can never have too many. it’s a good idea to bring a few pairs with before you scout the shops here to know where the best ones are
  • money – the first three months you will not receive your full salary so it can get pretty tight depending on your determination to stick to your budget  I had about 2000dhs that I brought from home, and with a relatively tight budget I managed…
  • medicine – compared to South Africa there is not a big choice at all when it comes to cold & flu medicine, so pack something from home (as most crew tend to get a bit sick during training) and maybe something to build up your immune system as well (just make sure everything falls under the regulations of medicine that’s allowed in Dubai, emirates will send you a list on your profile page once accepted)
  • a party dress or two :) even if you’re not into clubbing (like me) dubai has a way of getting you into a skimpy little dress and onto a dance floor, hehe
  • something to make you think of home, photos, soft toys or anything really
  • a laptop or ipad would be beneficial and DO remember to download skype BEFORE you come!! (as you are not allowed to download it here but you are allowed to use it? weird I know)
  • cellphone – I brought my cellphone with and a pay as you go package with roaming for the first few days before I got to a local service provider to buy a new sim card. so that enabled me to make contact with my family and friends back home the first few days, as the room you get put in might not have internet yet and you might then be stuck without a phone or skype.
  • most stuff you would need are available in dubai so the things mentioned above I would think are the most important

My 3.8 Year Life As An Emirate Flight Attendant

I discovered this interesting blog post made by a ex Emirates crew and its very interesting check it out:::::

My 3.8 Year Life As An Emirate Flight Attendant

Now over! A day in the Life…

Over the past month I have been enjoying counting down my last few flights working for Emirates! There hasn’t been any sadness or regret leaving my job with Emirates, but instead the trill of thinking I can now stay on solid earth for more then a week.

I thing I mostly enjoyed during my final month was hearing the support all of the crew were preaching to me, everyone confirming that its an excellent news, good luck, congratulations and well done.

It was also nice to show crew that there is a life after a cabin crew lifestyle. Except, I didn’t tell them how much effort it was to finally find a new job. But in retrospect, the global economy is still suffering from the GFC, unemployment is up (besides Australia), and the markets are balancing on a knifes-edge for a double dip recession. So, to get a job during this time isn’t too bad I suppose.

My 3.8yrs with Emirates has been a joy and an amazing experience! I more feel that the opportunities which the Emirates lifestyle can provide to you are the major benefit about the job and not the job itself. With all of the free time which you (use to have, the times have changed with Emirates) have between flights provides you with the freedom to chose to do anything with it and with very cheap discounted staff airfare tickets, you’d be stupid not to use this special opportunity to travel. For some reason the majority of crew waste this time instead.

Unfortunately, the job description of a cabin crew isn’t as glamorous as it use to be (not like I began this job for that reason), and the work while on the aircraft becomes very repetitive, fast! I am pleased to be leaving the company of Emirates now as I feel that the employee working condition standards have been dropping continuously as the airline has finally seen the financial advantages of cost cutting since the GFC (Global Financial Crisis). But this is not good for the poor employees.

I feel like I have grown and developed personally and professionally from the international exposure of traveling around the globe experiencing hundreds of different cultures, meeting thousands of new people (over 100 different nationalities of cabin crew, international passengers, and all sorts of people on my adventure holiday travels).

For the first few years it was all about seeing and exploring as many different countries, world wonders, and unknown places as possible. But I feel that over my last 1.5yrs with Emirates, my interests of travel changed to learning more about the world economy, trade, doing business in different countries, business opportunities, and buying investments in different regions of the world. I have really enjoyed being a student of the international markets and it was enjoyable to keep up with international current events and news as I had most likely been there (that country or region).

I have developed not only from my job but also during my time at Emirates, I have bought a property and then managed to live through, survived, and maintained my investments through the worst World Economic Crisis since the 1930s. I also, completed my Bachelor of Multimedia degree which is also fully paid off thank god.

Here is a fun list of things I’ve learnt during my 3.8yrs with Emirates and living overseas in Dubai:

Traveling is one of the best forms of education.
• Make the most of the opportunities which are presented before you.
• Do everything with a positive attitude and your life will be open to more doors.
• Never give up with what you want. (such as for my study, property problems and job search. If I gave up on these then I would of not achieved success)
• Find your true love because she/he will bring you the most happiness to your world.
Traveling with your partner is one of the best ways to learn and test each other and the relationship.
 • Build a supportive network around your world, of positive people such as your friends, partner, business associates, work colleagues, and family.
• Ask questions always.
• Keep learning always.
• Ill never miss 3am departure flights and arriving back from flights at dawn. (stuffs up your sleeping pattern for the next 24hrs and crew do this every week!)
• I never want to serve passengers again on an aircraft, and instead, I want to be served as a passenger (traveling business class always) in the future.
• I’ll always miss paying only 10% of an airfare.
• I’ll always miss staying in 4-5 star hotels and resorts around the world for free.
• I’ll always miss collecting $100 of spending cash when I land in a new country.
• Physically and mentally challenging yourself yearly by pushing your limits is lifelong rewarding experience
• Enjoy life and live life to the max.
• Have a life long goal and dream which you are continuously working towards on a daily basis (while still enjoying your life).
• Asia is now the world economic power.
• Working for someone else is not the answer for an early retirement.
• Paying not tax is awesome (we don’t pay tax in the Middle East).
• Work unions (only in the Western World) carry a large and powerful influence on the outcome of the employees working conditions.

Life after Etihad - 6 months later

Well its been now 6 months since i resigned Etihad as a cabin crew, and move back home.
I will only speak about my own experience and what i think personally, others might agree or disagree....
Its difficult to explain exactly how it feel to be back from the bubble called etihad and being a cabin crew in UAE.
First when i came home i was very happy to be home and i felt i had made the best choice fallowing my heart and i would never want to look back again.
In the beginning all i thought of was to be home and be with my family and friends.
Than after 1 month reality hit me.
To be completely honest its 50-50 for me, of what i miss from my time in UAE as a crew with Etihad and being back home.
From traveling the world, one night in Paris, another night in New York and another night in Sidney to ...that ordinary lifestyle back home....has actually been pretty difficult...
Its like you have this amazing lifestyle than something stops and takes you back to page 1 again....weird, very weird...
Such a change....coming from a complete different world to another world.
I thought i was done, completely done from that world.....but thats not the truth.
Its difficult living this ´´ordinary - normal - day to day´´ life....
The lifestyle we had in UAE is very luxurious compared to the lifestyle we might normally have at home ´´where ever that may be´´
Spending nights in 5 star hotels, visiting countries people would dream of, being able to do things we only would dream of doing,,,,,,
To go back to a normal life where things like that isnt free anymore...cause a lot of things was free for us crew. Than it became a habit of living a life like that....getting everything we wanted...to not having it all and not getting anything and having to work sooo hard for everything.
Its such a change...and i think mentally it hits you hard....but i had to find a balance....from all of this.....
Knowing that, that life wasnt going to last forever.....most people work as a crew with etihad few years and move on. Being a cabin crew with etihad might not be a lifelong career so to speak. Its completely different how it was with Etihad than it would be for example European airlines or whatever....cause for European airlines its a career. People in ex European airlines when they finish work as crew, come home at the end of the day, when we etihad crew, didnt came home to home so to speak....
I do miss flying for the best parts of it, the destinations, the moments you had a wonderful crew with you and we all had a blast, the moment a passenger thanked you extra cause you had done something special for them, the amazing hotels we stayed at, the feeling at the end of the months when you had gotten amazing layovers on your roster, feeling proud to be a cabin crew when walking through the airports and everyone looking at us which was such a cool feeling..
the friends and the adventures we had together, the fact you had grown so much as a person, the things you learned and discovered... and there is more,,, so much more...

To be a part of that company and work as a crew for Etihad will always be one of the best things i ever done in my life....or had the chance to do....
Imagine being chosen by so many applicants and than getting this job, is such a personal success in itself....and a sense of feeling proud of yourself...a privilege!!!
Not everyday do you get chosen to get a job, which is with one of the best companies in the world...
so thats cool...
But than it ends, we return to our home countries...with memories in ur baggage...
Of the colorful amazing life we had in the past.....
Its very difficult i think to travel around the world and do what we did as crew, and learn so much, live such a fast life...than come home and everyone seem to be the same....everything look the same....YET i feel i have changed and no one understand this feeling or journey until they been in my shoes....
i read this article about people who travel and come home that they get some kind of ´´reversed cultural chock´´...
i feel i experienced that and still experiencing that.. but again we need to move on in life...and not live in the past and find exciting new roads ahead of us....
I have to admit i would love to RELIVE the moments again....but not as a cabin crew...perhaps as something else....
But it is indeed very difficult to find that balance of accepting this is my lifestyle now, and the glamorous life i had in the past will always be a cherished memory...
Stories i can share with my grandchildren one day :-)
But at the end of the day regardless of what i had or did or what it was, its a closed chapter in my life....and im totally blessed to had a chance to live and experience such thing.
....i think if i didnt resign etihad perhaps that new path wouldnt be found.....who knows....cause i feel i have found a new path i never knew about before and never thought of before.....so im excited about the future....

I think the things we do, always lead us to another path WHICH IS MEANT TO BE AND IS THE PLACE WE NEED TO BE.....there is no coincidents in life i think..thats my personal thought...
even if that place isnt a place we might like, but i think that will open doors to another place where we need to be at the end!!
we all have a purpose in life, and things do happens for a reason i believe..

Life is only going to get better, we just need to remain faithful and positive and go after our dreams and make them ours....and never giving up!!! we totally deserve it i think!!!! :-)

A journey with Etihad i will never ever forget.

Emirates Cabin Crew Recruitment Process

Year 2010 i did this Emirates cabin crew open day - assessment day - final interview. I thought i would share my experience here, just to give those who will soon attend any emirates open day or assessment or interview a picture of how it looks like and what to expect during the day...
GOOD LUCK GUYS :-)

OPEN DAY: 9:00 am

I was scared what if 100-200 people would show up and i knew if that was the case than i would not have a chance to be ´´NOTICED´´.
but crazy enough only 30 people showed up. i was SO HAPPY and surprised about that.
AND 50% of those 30 wore weird outfits
ex wearing mini skirts and not the color black but WHITE ,
colored high boots,
wearing jumpers,
having no make on,
wearing shirts that almost looked like a top ,

and of course none of those made it....

around 3 hours the recruiters were talking about the company, showed us clips and asked questions as the time went.

Those who answered their questions didnt make it. i tried to listen, smile and not answering any questions.
there was people who all the time raised their hands and perhaps thought if i did that then they would notice me or something but thats wrong.
you should smile and be quiet :-)

after that they told us because we are not so many people here they will start the assessment day and told us to hand them our cv´s, pictures and tagged us with numbers.
during the cv drop they didnt ask anything we just said hello and thank you.

we went outside and waited for 20min i think. than they told us to come in.

ASSESSMENT TIME:

now they had made circles in the conference room and we had to sit in numeric order and in my group we were 10.
our first task was to introduce ourselves in our group.
and i was thinking about the ´´SHORT, SWEET´´ ´´rule´´.

some people were going on and on about irrelevant things about themselves.
after that we were told to talk to the person to our right and find out 2 things about themselves.

1) IF YOU COULD BE INVISIBLE FOR A DAY WHAT WOULD YOU DO.
2) WHO DO YOU ADMIRE THE MOST AND WHY.

while doing that we had to go and do the reach test.
thankfully i made that test but i was so scared during that moment

the recruiter asked me 2 questions at that time

1) if im working at the moment
2) if i come from that country and if i came to this country just because of this open day

Now it was time for my group to introduce the person to our right.

than when all of that was finished they told us to go wait outside.
we went back in again after a while and they thanked us and told us to take our belongings and as they said our numbers we were tagged with,
we were given that GOLDEN PAPER as i call it.....
the scariest part of each stage......
i thought to my self HERE WE GO......

as i went out i opened the paper :

http://i56.tinypic.com/2ahxpp0.jpg

wow, i couldn't believe it, i was in shock, i felt at that moment i had won something huge
i was so happy
because i truly was THANKFUL i got that opportunity

those who didnt made it at this stage was
ex one girl i saw when she was introducing the person to her right she went and stood behind the chair,
and people who were laughing and talking very loud
and people who went on and on for a long time about that person on their right,
people who were making jokes during the presentations ect
and obviously those who were dressed all wrong

at this stage we were told to stay outside i think for 30min if im not wrong..and i think we were 18 people at this stage now,,... and when we came inside again we were told we will do the english test...

we had 1 hour to do this.

the first page was a article about a rude girl working on this company dont remember exactly.
and we had questions about this article we had to circle the best answer.

the next page was to find synonyms and match words that meant the same...

the next pages i dont remember

but i do remember the last part of the english test:

we were going to write a short essay we had 4 topics to choose from.

the ladies told us a extra topic and they said to write this and they repeated that 2 times.
i think this was to see if we listen carefully or some kind of listening test.
so 5 topics in total

the topics we had was something about
if you could turn back time what time would you go back to and why.
the the 2nd and 3rd i dont remember
the 4th topic which i loved was

TELL US YOUR LAST HOLIDAY AND WHERE DID YOU GO AND HOW IT WAS.

that was easy and fun to write

after finished we were told to go and wait outside again

we went inside again, and the same thing happened again
we were given this GOLDEN LETTER again
and thankfully i made it

at this point i was more shocked,
...i didnt expect pass this stage...because i have never gotten this far before....

now everyone was tired and hungry and i think we were 10 people left now.
and who had the appetite to eat something quickly during this stressful moments?
not many anyway

after 15min we went inside again and they had made circles again in the room....
we were 5 in each group.
we were told to discuss a topic they choose for us.
the topic we had in my group was

IF YOU WERE GOING TO OUT OF SPACE AND MEET ALIENS WHAT 4 THINGS WOULD YOU BRING WITH YOU TO SHOW THE ALIENS ABOUT THE LIFE ON EARTH.

at that moment i was happy because this topic is so easy.
here you could noticed who were talking over each other and who didnt let other people talk
during this stage i was having eye contact with my group, smiled ,nodded and said
I AGREE WITH THIS.
i didnt say anything. of course i wanted so desperately to contribute with 1000 things we could added because this topic was a fun topic.
BUT i knew from TIPS AND ADVICES i read here
is that to stay quiet ,nod and agree

that was hilarious because the topic was so easy
and i wanted to say something too
but i forced myself to stay quiet
that was funny

when our time was over the recruiter asked us to tell what we had chosen
to keep it sweet and short is the rule here too

after this task they called our name to go to another corner of the conference room and they asked us these:

HAVE YOU EVER HAD A VISA FOR USA BEFORE
DO YOU HAVE ANY SCARS OR TATTOOS
WHAT IS YOUR MOTHER TONGUE AND WHAT OTHER LANGUAGES DO YOU KNOW

i think that was the questions they asked us....

we were told to go outside again.......

and everyone at this point was so tired
i felt oh my god i have came so far it would be THE SADDEST moment if i were cut at this stage...
i would rather be cut at the first elimination than now.....

we were told to come in and again they thanked us and said we wish you the best ect
and as we went outside one by one
we were given these ´´GOLDEN LETTERS´´ AGAIN.....

i made it again

at this point i was still in shock the biggest shock ever
i was thinking HOW THE HELL DID I MAKE IT?
although i knew i did my best and did everything i could....
but i couldn't believe it....

we were now 7 LUCKY PEOPLE...1 boy 6 girls.

among those people who didnt make it at this stage was actually
few cabin crews that worked with other airlines...that blew my mind away i didnt understand why
but i think during the group talk that they talked over each other and they all chit chatted too much made them not go to the next stage....

also the rest that didnt make it was those who made jokes and stuff...
which is not a good thing to do..but it sure made the rest of us smile even more
and those with wrong outfits were cut too
someone had a weird hairstyle were cut too like too much gel in it i would guess didnt look appropriate for this event

now we were told to wait outside again...at this stage i had no idea what was going to happen with 7 of us....

i thought oh no they will cut us again and they might need 4 candidates or whatever.....
and i thought i have no chance now....

we went in and there were papers on 7 tables and the recruiters told everyone:

CONGRATULATIONS FOR MAKING IT THIS FAR AND NOW EVERYONE OF YOU HERE HAVE MADE IT TO THE FINAL INTERVIEW TOMORROW

everyone were looking at each other seriously with shocking eyes...
.i dont think no one were expecting this....
i know i didnt...

but we all got happy!!

at this stage we got info and filled in papers ect
and got to choose our time for our final interview the next day

also they gave us this paper about what to bring the next day::::

http://i52.tinypic.com/15q3gqw.jpg

also we received a paper on how we should look like during the final interview
and in my opinion we should look like that during the whole process from open day to final...
here is the paper::::::::

http://i51.tinypic.com/2d85oxw.jpg

and they told us to do this online test at home
the link to that would be sent to our email addresses

when i did this test online the questions were like ex:

IF YOU WERE AT A PARTY WHO WILL YOU SPEND MORE TIME , THE GUESTS OR THE PERSON YOU CAME WITH?
IF SOMEONE YOU KNOW IS CRYING WHAT WILL YOU DO?
IF SOMEONE OFFENDED YOU HOW WILL YOU REACT?

ect it was 170 questions and we had to finish it within 1 hour.

THE FINAL INTERVIEW

The next day we had our FINAL INTERVIEW and i was still shocked on how i made it

but i felt so blessed and thankful....
i still felt i had won some kind of lottery

and while i was standing outside the interview room...
i saw THAI airways crew passing me WOW they looked so pretty and they looked at me and smiled...and i smiled back
and i thought wow lucky them!
all of them looked neat and beautiful.

the ladies came out and welcomed me in.
i smiled a lot and this time it came more naturally because i was so happy and the ladies were happy too.

it started by me giving them all the paper work and photos
after that one of the ladies were writing everything i said and the other were asking questions.
all the questions she asked me was about my previous work experiences
ex of the questions i remember was :

TELL US A TIME YOU WENT OUTSIDE THE BOX TO HELP A COSTUMER
TELL US A TIME YOU MADE A MISTAKE AT WORK AND WHAT DID YOU DO

TELL US A TIME YOU WERE ASKING FOR HELP FROM SOMEONE
TELL US A TIME WHERE SOMEONE WITH MORE EXPERIENCE AT WORK HAD TO LISTEN TO YOU
HOW I DEALT WITH ANGRY CUSTOMERS

after each question i was thinking WHEN WILL THIS END
and i was waiting for them to ask me a fun question
ex WHY DO YOU WANT TO BECOME A CABIN CREW
but they never asked me that

the time went very fast

they also said they will contact me in 4-6 weeks

after 30min i was done and they gave me another test with black patterns and shapes reminded me of TETRIS

i had to go outside and do it
and hand it in again when i was done.

-------------------------

well after 2 months of waiting i got this email from Emirates:

Dear Miss.

Further to your recent interview for the post of Cabin Crew with our organization, it is with considerable regret that I have to advise you that your application was unsuccessful on this occasion.

Should you still be interested in pursuing your interest with Emirates Airline, you can re-apply after a period of one year.

We would nevertheless like to thank you for attending the interview programme, and wish you every success with your future endeavours.

Yours sincerely,

Exit Etihad Done

As difficult it was to get this job as a cabin crew with Etihad Airways it has been difficult to exit the company.
With exit i mean doing all the stuff to prepare myself for departure to my home country.
In normal jobs you might hand in your resignation letter and when your last working day comes you leave and say good bye to everyone.
Well being in this company nothing is like what it is in our own home countries.
The procedure and rules to fallow to exit this company is far out the MOST DIFFICULT things i ever done in my life when it comes to resigning a job.
Well let me share with you what i had to do in order to finish the LIST....
Yeah we do have to fallow this list, once it is done you get your free ticket to fly back home.
Let me show you so you guys will get an idea of how it is to exit this company.

You need to hand in your etihad uniform and luggage to one place

Than you have to leave your manuals and all books and stuff to ANOTHER place

You need to cancel your staff travel

You need to make an appointment for someone to com to your accommodation to inspect it

You need to go to somewhere else to hand in all your id´s

Than you go to somewhere else to cancel your visa

If the internet in your accommodation was under your name you need to go to that place and cancel it

When that is done, you have the inspection come and do a inspection in your accommodation

Than you go to collect a bank clearance letter

Than after that, you go to fill in a form about your money in the bank.

Than you finally go to staff travel for them to book YOUR FINAL TICKET HOME....

All of these stuff you have to do in order, you go to each ´´ station´´ to get a signature too to make sure you have it done.

It took me 2 weeks to complete all of these steps, but it can be done within 1 week if you push it.

It is such a headache really, also all the rules and regulations coming with this. If one thing wont work or a delay comes in your way, all of the rest from your list has to be postponed!
You cant continue if one thing isnt done....and we need to fallow this LIST 100%
ehehehehe :-))

I have never done such ´´ clearance exit ´´ thingy with any company i worked with in my life. But i do understand why we have to do this though.
In UAE its all about regulation and rules.

Some crew actually leave the country without doing this, i mean just leave and never come back because of this exit procedure. But if you do it, it means UAE will black list you from ever be able to return to this country again.
But it does happen though that etihad crew leave without anyone knowing....
Such a shame cause than they would never be able to come back here, i mean not even for vacation.

Well i am happy to finally finish all of these and awaiting my tickets to go back to Europe. But who knows i might come back to UAE...
We will see what happens.
But thank god i am done with this ´´list´´, seriously such a hassle.

So in few days i will be heading back home, yayyy
I am so happy to begin a new chapter in my life.

Remember changes in life opens doors, and give us a chance to even HAVE A BETTER LIFE.
I am confident i will do better things in life.
Being a cabin crew might be good to do in life but not for lifetime. It might be a career for some but not for me.
Yes this job has very good and comfy things coming with it, but i feel i need to move on from this.

This picture below totally explain me, and my path and what i did.... heheeheh

I chose to take another path....because i know success for me wasnt the path i was on....
