Emirates Cabin Crew Recruitment Process

Year 2010 i did this Emirates cabin crew open day - assessment day - final interview. I thought i would share my experience here, just to give those who will soon attend any emirates open day or assessment or interview a picture of how it looks like and what to expect during the day...
GOOD LUCK GUYS :-)

OPEN DAY: 9:00 am

I was scared what if 100-200 people would show up and i knew if that was the case than i would not have a chance to be ´´NOTICED´´.
but crazy enough only 30 people showed up. i was SO HAPPY and surprised about that.
AND 50% of those 30 wore weird outfits
ex wearing mini skirts and not the color black but WHITE ,
colored high boots,
wearing jumpers,
having no make on,
wearing shirts that almost looked like a top ,

and of course none of those made it....

around 3 hours the recruiters were talking about the company, showed us clips and asked questions as the time went.

Those who answered their questions didnt make it. i tried to listen, smile and not answering any questions.
there was people who all the time raised their hands and perhaps thought if i did that then they would notice me or something but thats wrong.
you should smile and be quiet :-)

after that they told us because we are not so many people here they will start the assessment day and told us to hand them our cv´s, pictures and tagged us with numbers.
during the cv drop they didnt ask anything we just said hello and thank you.

we went outside and waited for 20min i think. than they told us to come in.

ASSESSMENT TIME:

now they had made circles in the conference room and we had to sit in numeric order and in my group we were 10.
our first task was to introduce ourselves in our group.
and i was thinking about the ´´SHORT, SWEET´´ ´´rule´´.

some people were going on and on about irrelevant things about themselves.
after that we were told to talk to the person to our right and find out 2 things about themselves.

1) IF YOU COULD BE INVISIBLE FOR A DAY WHAT WOULD YOU DO.
2) WHO DO YOU ADMIRE THE MOST AND WHY.

while doing that we had to go and do the reach test.
thankfully i made that test but i was so scared during that moment

the recruiter asked me 2 questions at that time

1) if im working at the moment
2) if i come from that country and if i came to this country just because of this open day

Now it was time for my group to introduce the person to our right.

than when all of that was finished they told us to go wait outside.
we went back in again after a while and they thanked us and told us to take our belongings and as they said our numbers we were tagged with,
we were given that GOLDEN PAPER as i call it.....
the scariest part of each stage......
i thought to my self HERE WE GO......

as i went out i opened the paper :

http://i56.tinypic.com/2ahxpp0.jpg

wow, i couldn't believe it, i was in shock, i felt at that moment i had won something huge
i was so happy
because i truly was THANKFUL i got that opportunity

those who didnt made it at this stage was
ex one girl i saw when she was introducing the person to her right she went and stood behind the chair,
and people who were laughing and talking very loud
and people who went on and on for a long time about that person on their right,
people who were making jokes during the presentations ect
and obviously those who were dressed all wrong

at this stage we were told to stay outside i think for 30min if im not wrong..and i think we were 18 people at this stage now,,... and when we came inside again we were told we will do the english test...

we had 1 hour to do this.

the first page was a article about a rude girl working on this company dont remember exactly.
and we had questions about this article we had to circle the best answer.

the next page was to find synonyms and match words that meant the same...

the next pages i dont remember

but i do remember the last part of the english test:

we were going to write a short essay we had 4 topics to choose from.

the ladies told us a extra topic and they said to write this and they repeated that 2 times.
i think this was to see if we listen carefully or some kind of listening test.
so 5 topics in total

the topics we had was something about
if you could turn back time what time would you go back to and why.
the the 2nd and 3rd i dont remember
the 4th topic which i loved was

TELL US YOUR LAST HOLIDAY AND WHERE DID YOU GO AND HOW IT WAS.

that was easy and fun to write

after finished we were told to go and wait outside again

we went inside again, and the same thing happened again
we were given this GOLDEN LETTER again
and thankfully i made it

at this point i was more shocked,
...i didnt expect pass this stage...because i have never gotten this far before....

now everyone was tired and hungry and i think we were 10 people left now.
and who had the appetite to eat something quickly during this stressful moments?
not many anyway

after 15min we went inside again and they had made circles again in the room....
we were 5 in each group.
we were told to discuss a topic they choose for us.
the topic we had in my group was

IF YOU WERE GOING TO OUT OF SPACE AND MEET ALIENS WHAT 4 THINGS WOULD YOU BRING WITH YOU TO SHOW THE ALIENS ABOUT THE LIFE ON EARTH.

at that moment i was happy because this topic is so easy.
here you could noticed who were talking over each other and who didnt let other people talk
during this stage i was having eye contact with my group, smiled ,nodded and said
I AGREE WITH THIS.
i didnt say anything. of course i wanted so desperately to contribute with 1000 things we could added because this topic was a fun topic.
BUT i knew from TIPS AND ADVICES i read here
is that to stay quiet ,nod and agree

that was hilarious because the topic was so easy
and i wanted to say something too
but i forced myself to stay quiet
that was funny

when our time was over the recruiter asked us to tell what we had chosen
to keep it sweet and short is the rule here too

after this task they called our name to go to another corner of the conference room and they asked us these:

HAVE YOU EVER HAD A VISA FOR USA BEFORE
DO YOU HAVE ANY SCARS OR TATTOOS
WHAT IS YOUR MOTHER TONGUE AND WHAT OTHER LANGUAGES DO YOU KNOW

i think that was the questions they asked us....

we were told to go outside again.......

and everyone at this point was so tired
i felt oh my god i have came so far it would be THE SADDEST moment if i were cut at this stage...
i would rather be cut at the first elimination than now.....

we were told to come in and again they thanked us and said we wish you the best ect
and as we went outside one by one
we were given these ´´GOLDEN LETTERS´´ AGAIN.....

i made it again

at this point i was still in shock the biggest shock ever
i was thinking HOW THE HELL DID I MAKE IT?
although i knew i did my best and did everything i could....
but i couldn't believe it....

we were now 7 LUCKY PEOPLE...1 boy 6 girls.

among those people who didnt make it at this stage was actually
few cabin crews that worked with other airlines...that blew my mind away i didnt understand why
but i think during the group talk that they talked over each other and they all chit chatted too much made them not go to the next stage....

also the rest that didnt make it was those who made jokes and stuff...
which is not a good thing to do..but it sure made the rest of us smile even more
and those with wrong outfits were cut too
someone had a weird hairstyle were cut too like too much gel in it i would guess didnt look appropriate for this event

now we were told to wait outside again...at this stage i had no idea what was going to happen with 7 of us....

i thought oh no they will cut us again and they might need 4 candidates or whatever.....
and i thought i have no chance now....

we went in and there were papers on 7 tables and the recruiters told everyone:

CONGRATULATIONS FOR MAKING IT THIS FAR AND NOW EVERYONE OF YOU HERE HAVE MADE IT TO THE FINAL INTERVIEW TOMORROW

everyone were looking at each other seriously with shocking eyes...
.i dont think no one were expecting this....
i know i didnt...

but we all got happy!!

at this stage we got info and filled in papers ect
and got to choose our time for our final interview the next day

also they gave us this paper about what to bring the next day::::

http://i52.tinypic.com/15q3gqw.jpg

also we received a paper on how we should look like during the final interview
and in my opinion we should look like that during the whole process from open day to final...
here is the paper::::::::

http://i51.tinypic.com/2d85oxw.jpg

and they told us to do this online test at home
the link to that would be sent to our email addresses

when i did this test online the questions were like ex:

IF YOU WERE AT A PARTY WHO WILL YOU SPEND MORE TIME , THE GUESTS OR THE PERSON YOU CAME WITH?
IF SOMEONE YOU KNOW IS CRYING WHAT WILL YOU DO?
IF SOMEONE OFFENDED YOU HOW WILL YOU REACT?

ect it was 170 questions and we had to finish it within 1 hour.

THE FINAL INTERVIEW

The next day we had our FINAL INTERVIEW and i was still shocked on how i made it

but i felt so blessed and thankful....
i still felt i had won some kind of lottery

and while i was standing outside the interview room...
i saw THAI airways crew passing me WOW they looked so pretty and they looked at me and smiled...and i smiled back
and i thought wow lucky them!
all of them looked neat and beautiful.

the ladies came out and welcomed me in.
i smiled a lot and this time it came more naturally because i was so happy and the ladies were happy too.

it started by me giving them all the paper work and photos
after that one of the ladies were writing everything i said and the other were asking questions.
all the questions she asked me was about my previous work experiences
ex of the questions i remember was :

TELL US A TIME YOU WENT OUTSIDE THE BOX TO HELP A COSTUMER
TELL US A TIME YOU MADE A MISTAKE AT WORK AND WHAT DID YOU DO

TELL US A TIME YOU WERE ASKING FOR HELP FROM SOMEONE
TELL US A TIME WHERE SOMEONE WITH MORE EXPERIENCE AT WORK HAD TO LISTEN TO YOU
HOW I DEALT WITH ANGRY CUSTOMERS

after each question i was thinking WHEN WILL THIS END
and i was waiting for them to ask me a fun question
ex WHY DO YOU WANT TO BECOME A CABIN CREW
but they never asked me that

the time went very fast

they also said they will contact me in 4-6 weeks

after 30min i was done and they gave me another test with black patterns and shapes reminded me of TETRIS

i had to go outside and do it
and hand it in again when i was done.

-------------------------

well after 2 months of waiting i got this email from Emirates:

Dear Miss.

Further to your recent interview for the post of Cabin Crew with our organization, it is with considerable regret that I have to advise you that your application was unsuccessful on this occasion.

Should you still be interested in pursuing your interest with Emirates Airline, you can re-apply after a period of one year.

We would nevertheless like to thank you for attending the interview programme, and wish you every success with your future endeavours.

Yours sincerely,

Exit Etihad Done

As difficult it was to get this job as a cabin crew with Etihad Airways it has been difficult to exit the company.
With exit i mean doing all the stuff to prepare myself for departure to my home country.
In normal jobs you might hand in your resignation letter and when your last working day comes you leave and say good bye to everyone.
Well being in this company nothing is like what it is in our own home countries.
The procedure and rules to fallow to exit this company is far out the MOST DIFFICULT things i ever done in my life when it comes to resigning a job.
Well let me share with you what i had to do in order to finish the LIST....
Yeah we do have to fallow this list, once it is done you get your free ticket to fly back home.
Let me show you so you guys will get an idea of how it is to exit this company.

You need to hand in your etihad uniform and luggage to one place

Than you have to leave your manuals and all books and stuff to ANOTHER place

You need to cancel your staff travel

You need to make an appointment for someone to com to your accommodation to inspect it

You need to go to somewhere else to hand in all your id´s

Than you go to somewhere else to cancel your visa

If the internet in your accommodation was under your name you need to go to that place and cancel it

When that is done, you have the inspection come and do a inspection in your accommodation

Than you go to collect a bank clearance letter

Than after that, you go to fill in a form about your money in the bank.

Than you finally go to staff travel for them to book YOUR FINAL TICKET HOME....

All of these stuff you have to do in order, you go to each ´´ station´´ to get a signature too to make sure you have it done.

It took me 2 weeks to complete all of these steps, but it can be done within 1 week if you push it.

It is such a headache really, also all the rules and regulations coming with this. If one thing wont work or a delay comes in your way, all of the rest from your list has to be postponed!
You cant continue if one thing isnt done....and we need to fallow this LIST 100%
ehehehehe :-))

I have never done such ´´ clearance exit ´´ thingy with any company i worked with in my life. But i do understand why we have to do this though.
In UAE its all about regulation and rules.

Some crew actually leave the country without doing this, i mean just leave and never come back because of this exit procedure. But if you do it, it means UAE will black list you from ever be able to return to this country again.
But it does happen though that etihad crew leave without anyone knowing....
Such a shame cause than they would never be able to come back here, i mean not even for vacation.

Well i am happy to finally finish all of these and awaiting my tickets to go back to Europe. But who knows i might come back to UAE...
We will see what happens.
But thank god i am done with this ´´list´´, seriously such a hassle.

So in few days i will be heading back home, yayyy
I am so happy to begin a new chapter in my life.

Remember changes in life opens doors, and give us a chance to even HAVE A BETTER LIFE.
I am confident i will do better things in life.
Being a cabin crew might be good to do in life but not for lifetime. It might be a career for some but not for me.
Yes this job has very good and comfy things coming with it, but i feel i need to move on from this.

This picture below totally explain me, and my path and what i did.... heheeheh

I chose to take another path....because i know success for me wasnt the path i was on....

The End/ Good Bye Cabin Crew World

There comes a time in everyone's lives where we either push through in our job or we think what shall i do now and move to something else.
Its been 1 year since i joined Etihad Airways as a cabin crew and it has given me so much, i have grown as a person, i have learned so much, i have met so many people from 1000 nationalities and i think i have become a stronger person!
I have been so blessed to fulfill my dream. Well once upon a time this was my dream. I feel im blessed i had the chance to do this. But now it is no longer my dream anymore as i feel i need to pursue something else in life.
Chase another dream now....
They say once u reach 1 year in aviation either you push through or move to something else.
For me it happened over night that i wanted to pursue something else. But that was meant to be i think....
But i feel so happy i have seen many corners of the world.
This was 100% THE BEST year of my life to work with Etihad as a cabin crew. I wonder if any other job in the future will top this job? hehehehe i hope so :-)
It is time for me to end this chapter as a cabin crew and continue to a different place.
I am confident i will succeed in life and reach greater things in life.
I love changes in life, i feel changes opens doors for people.

For me it was a easy choice we need to fallow our hearts

as i love change in life ...this is such a exciting new start for me..change is good in life...we shouldnt be scared of changes...changes change us and help us grow...
And i believe whatever is meant to be is meant to be. Destiny will lead me to a place i need to be soon...

I will share with you guys this quote:

This image above explains it all i think!

For those who dream of becoming a cabin crew and still trying to get this job, never give up as this is a ONCE IN A LIFETIME EXPERIENCE!!!!!
Time for me to leave the office ´´ in the sky´´ and go to the ´´ office on ground´´ lol

Never stop wishing and dreaming in life, cause it is our dreams/wishes that makes us alive i think!
Take care everyone!

Boeing 777 Training Done

Greetings from China!

As im typing this im lucky enough to be in this amazing side of the world.

Having few moments left before we head back to Abu Dhabi, thought i would post the 1st post of 2012 :-)

Thankfully i have good news, that i passed the Boeing 777 training i had.
It was very stressful as these trainings are. But i made it, didnt thought i would cause some parts of the exam was veryyyy difficult. The training was only 2 days thankfully.

1st day we learned about these :

  • B777 - 300 Aircraft/ evacuation devices/ normal operation / emergency operation / Communication/ emergency system
2nd day we did the exam and had little bit of service information given to us.

Now the exam with the questions was pretty easy as flying with airbus helped us with the 777. Also with the questions came multiple answers which helped of course. But we had this diagram we had to fill in. This is the hardest thing ever, as we have to fill in safety equipment in this diagram, and we had to memorize the diagram where the safety equipments were on the plane and how many they were ect. This was the hardest for me during the exam. But overall i passed THANK GOD.
Im so proud of myself that i did this as this is also one of the things in life i wanted to finish and not just start and not finish.

Now we have this familiarization flight for B777 coming up.
Mine is in few weeks and we call this first familiarization flight for a suppy flight which i think i have written about during the airbus i did.
And the first suppy flight i have is to JEDDAH.
But im excited as it seems to be very nice to work on B777 and things is set up to make our work much easier and more effective.
So im excited to go and see it and do my suppy on it. Now having this B777 done, it means i have access to every Etihad destinations now and i can fly wherever i want. The only thing i now have to wait for is the USA VISA. Getting that i can fly to USA too.

It feels so nice to have accomplished one thing more....and getting more experience in my job.
I also think as time goes this job is growing on me.
It was fantastic to get to work this in the beginning than in the middle of the time i had doubts if this is what i wanted? than now i feel things is slowly coming to place.

Many people ask me where is the best destination ever i have been to? There is 1 place i have been to but not with Etihad/work, which has been the best and most amazing places ever ever ever.
That is HAWAII
Seriously that place is like a postcard, like a paradise! I havnt been to a place like this before.....

The best destination i have been with Etihad/work has been SINGAPORE, its fantastic to be there but oh my god its the most THE MOST EXPENSIVE place i ever been to!
But its such a nice place to explore though!

The places i still havnt been to and dream of going is to ex: PARIS, MOSCOW, TOKYO, SEOUL, SAO PAULO, LOS ANGELES, SAN FRANSISCO, MIAMI, KENYA AND EGYPT.
Well there is no rush, one day i hope to see those places too, as i think these places would be a magical view to see.

Now i have to go and get ready to fly back to Abu Dhabi!

We will see what life has in store for all of us tomorrow, as each day is a new day right?!

Wish you all a wonderful morning, afternoon, evening or night depending on what time zones you are in!
Hugs πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™
AND always think positiveπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

Probation Finished - Etihad Airways

Few weeks ago i finished my probation time with Etihad Airways and it feels good to have passed it.
As if its a new chapter now or something.
These days as i finished my probation time, during my flights we have more and more new joiners on board. When i work with these new joiners i think of myself during that time i started flying with Etihad. It is so weird to me how time has gone by so fast.

I have learned so much and still are learning new things with this flying job. After 6 months flying before you could apply to work in first class/business class. Now they changed that rule and we cant apply anymore, they choose us. Those who have good reviews ect ect. Cause i was thinking i want to develop now and move up and work for first class/business class. So we will see how that goes now.

Well what to do in this life than SMILE, THINK POSITIVE AND SMILE :-)

3 Months Flying - Etihad Airways

3 Months has passed now and right now im back home on my annual leave recharging my batteries.
I thought i would give my opinion/ thoughts on how the job has been so far.  Or how things is around me.

I have to be honest, at first everything was magical and i thought wow this is amazing.
As time went things became ´´normal´´ and it became a job and day in and night out as i worked that ´´magic´´ wasnt there anymore.
Of course im still blessed and thankful for this opportunity.
But every job have good days and bad days.
There is horrible moments with this job, there is fantastic moments in this job too and when things doesnt go my way and i think im tired of this job i ALWAYS think of those amazing moments at work which makes me smile.

One trainer at the training told us one day when we feel down we should think WHY DID WE COME HERE AT THE FIRST PLACE?
For OUR DREAM of course.

After a while the things we once thought was amazing now is ´´´normal´´.
We see it everyday and do it everyday, so sometimes we forget those special things about this job.

ANYHOW flying back home for my leave for the first time since i started this...and... sitting in the plane as a passenger i truly REALIZED WHAT A AMAZING JOB I HAVE.
I felt the excitement again and truly working as a cabin crew for ETIHAD is once in a lifetime experience/ opportunity.

I saw my job with different eyes sitting as a passenger. Walking at the airport seeing cabin crews, i was thinking wow i have a job like this too thats amazing. :-)
I think i took my job for granted there for a while.

But once in a while we need to take a break from our jobs regardless of what we have and RECHARGE OUR BATTERIES..
Good for our minds, soul and bodies!

Living in Abu Dhabi is great actually, there is a lot to do, i have met a lot of new friends and they become our families cause there is no other we have there.
Im used to the customs there and now i feel its my 2nd home for some reason. The sun is shining there all the time so no reason to be sad right? lol

Working as a cabin crew is a veryyyy hard work, veryyyy, we have around 200+ passengers we have to take care of, although we cant make everyone of all those 200+ passengers happy, but try! That is all we can do!
But being a cabin crew is a very hard job which many dont know about.
Im still smiling though on board, someone told me when u stop smiling than this job isnt for u anymore :-)

But everything in life happens for a reason and this was meant to be for me, and IM THANKFUL for it.
Of course sometimes we dont like it and other days we love it. THIS IS LIFE.... same with the rest in our lives...

GOOD LUCK GUYS and please NEVER give up, CHASE this dream if you really want it!
POSITIVE ATTITUDE also helps us to see things with different eyes.

ALWAYS THINK POSITIVE!!!!

πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—

Graduation day Etihad

Oh my god i finally finished the training and graduated and it was such a wonderful ceremony Etihad staff did for us.

But the most important thing for me was to get the certificate and our wings Because it is a reminder for me that i accomplished something i dreamed for soooo long, something i have been chasing for ages...for...

My dream came true, now i have to maintain this dream by doing well on flights.

Now slowly this joy of graduation is about to finish and a new chapter is about to START which is flying.

Im veryyy excited to really board the plane and do the things i ONE DAY only could dream of doing.

EVERY STEP AND HARDSHIP TO COME TO THIS POINT... WAS WORTH IT!!!!

ps now im no longer a cabin crew dreamer lol

My 1st Flight

So my 1st flight ever in my life was completed....MISSION COMPLETED lol...

The crew and cabin manager were so nice to me and helped me a lot and i learned so much from this flight.

I had the once in a life time chance to sit in the cock pit for take off and landing WOW.
Another dream got fulfilled, when the plane was on the runway and ready to take off i looked around and looked at myself and at that moment i felt SOOOO PROUD of myself.
I felt I DID IT....
Sitting in the cockpit was amazing, i cant describe it with words!!!!

But i heard usually crew can sit in the cockpit for take off and landing during their 1st and 2nd supis in Etihad.
But only if the pilots allow it. Thankfully the pilot we had during this flight he was very nice.

Doing the service and communicating with the guests was soooo much fun, i felt automatically i went into this role.

I think if the cabin manager and the crew are nice the flight will be lovely regardless of the crazy passengers :-)

One moment i was standing in the middle of the aisle in the plane and looked at the people and myself and again felt SOOO PROUD of myself, it was a emotional moment there for a while.

WOW I DID IT....

From one day to look outside the window and dream to be on board when i saw a plane in the sky to TODAY being on board that plane i once dreamed to be on board in.

Its wonderful, and i know every work has its ups and down but im very happy to be a cabin crew and do this job.
I know its not a easy job but i love it.

One thing im little bit scared of before each flight is during briefing when they ask us 1 question, hmmmm little bit stressful there, but i try to review everyday little bit in our manuals, thats all i can do....but its a challenge though :-)

Today i have another flight and im excited because its a layover i have, and i hope it will go well and i hope i will have a nice crew!!!!!

Again i will say this: THE ROCKY ROAD TO THIS POINT EVERY SINGLE SECOND WAS WORTH IT!!!!!

Week 6 of training Finished

wow what a week...what a week... The days of our lives :-)

I have to mention that week 6 has been the easiest weeks of THEM ALL for me!

The reason? I believe is that i was lucky enough to have amazing instructors during this week :-)
In my opinion almost everything depends on our instructors, depending how our instructors are...
if they are amazing...EVERYTHING will be amazing. if not than not. :-)

Yayyy im beyond happy i finished week 6 and now i only have next week left...

Next week i graduate YAYYY after all the struggle finally i will soon ´´taste the fruit´´ of all the hard work!

This week was all about service and we did these things on this week:

  • Etihad internal communication
  • Meal procedures
  • Cart set ups
  • Transit procedures
  • Etihad Guest programme
  • In flight entertainment
  • About Wines/ Spirits/ Cocktails
  • Bar paperwork on board
  • Products and equipment for service on board
  • Galley electrical equipments
  • Than we had only 1 exam on all of this
Funny today is the 1st day since i started this...that  i finally can visualize myself being a cabin crew because now im so close to the ´´goal line´´.
Before we had so much to do and nothing was finished but now its not much left anymore and i totally can ´´FEEL´´ its coming...the finishing line is coming.... :-)

Next week will probably go very fast....

But i cant wait for next week to come so i can close this chapter and begin a new chapter shortly...which is  to start flyinggggggggggggggg

Seriously all the hard work is worth it....now i understand when people tell me WORK HARD TO REACH YOUR DREAMS :-)
The hard work is NOT EASY....my god it is not easy...but without struggle there is no success!!!

3 Days Left

3 days left until i will GRADUATE and words cant describe how happy i am.

This feeling is indescribable. I wish everyone who has a dream to become a cabin crew would have the chance to get hired and fulfill their dreams :-)

BUT tomorrow i have my last exam, which i have to pass in order to be 100% FREE and fly the world LOL

But knowing i only only only have 3 days left is extraordinary.

It was like yesterday i joined etihad, now where am i? soon to graduate and get my wings and jump up in the sky and HERE WE GO LOL

TO BE CONTINUED.......................

´´ DREAMS DO COME TRUE IF WE REALLY FIGHT FOR IT ´´
