Emirates open day and assessment 2020

Recently I came across this very interesting and useful Emirates open day and assessment day. It is written by a candidate that went through this process. This candidate has written his experience in great detail, and that is why I wanted to share this. This candidate did not go all the way to the final interview, but he experienced a long way through the process. I find his experience very useful and interesting to read.
Hopefully this will be to some help for whoever reading this 😊

Emirates - Recruitment event - March 2020

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

1) Beginning:

We were expected to be present at 09:00 AM at the Hilton Hotel in Antwerp. At that time we were with 40-45 people all together. Around 09:15 AM we officially started and unfortunately 3 girls came in late and were send home immediately (so be early!)

2) Registration:

The recruiter asked us to grab our smartphone and sign up and register on the the Emirates website (link below). We had to add our personal information on there with a photo (just any photo is alright, it's only for identification and you could still change it later). If you already created an account at home, you still had to visit the website, because we were  given a special OD Code so the recruiter could immediately search for all created accounts, so she would have a full list of names as well.

This is the link: http://www.emiratesgroupcareers.com/cabin-crew/

3) CV Drop-off:

After registration we were asked to come forward to receive our number and tag (sticker with your number). At that same moment we also had to hand over our CV and immediately go back to our seat (the recruiter didn't go over our cv at that moment, so there was no time to say something or give a quick impression of yourself). Some people brought a passport photo as well, but this was not necessary. People who forgot to bring their CV were asked to write a little summery of their CV down on a paper and hand it over afterwards. In the link above from Step 2 you can also add your CV digitally, but it was also required to bring along.

4) Introduction:

The recruiter wanted to show us 2 introduction videos about Emirates and Dubai, however her laptop was facing issue. So she decided to tell us all about Emirates and Dubai herself and did a great job. The recruiter was very nice, represented the company very well and showed a lot of enthusiasm (and she was funny!)

5) The first assessment:

At this time it was about 10:15 AM and we were divided in 2 groups of 22-23 people each group. We sat in a circle and were paired in couples. The assessment was to get to know your partner a little bit better and introduce them to the group, by asking the following question: "What's your favorite movie, and why? If you don't have a favorite movie, what's your favorite song, and why?". I did not expect this question at all, but it was a super fun way of getting to know your paired up partner. I expected to receive a card with an image and 4 questions that you could talk about with your partner, but  that didn't happen. We were given about 10 minutes to talk to each other and afterwards introduce each other to the group.

6) What happened:

Each couple introduced their partner. Some people only needed 30 seconds to introduce their partner and tell about their movie, and some were talking about 2-3 minutes until the recruiter stopped them. Overal I thought everyone did a nice job listening to each other and introducing each other. There were a lot of fun and enthusiastic personalities, but you could definitely see that everyone was very nervous. I also noticed that most people were talking about "what happened in the movie" instead of 'why the person likes that movie", or what personal experience the person has with that movie (example was given: this is my favorite movie because it reminds me of Christmas with my family).

7) After 20-25 minutes:

The second group went in and did the same assessment. In the meantime the first group  had some time off to chat and connect with each other.

8) The result:

Around 11:30 AM - 11:45 AM the recruiter came outside of the room and posted a list of numbers of the candidates who made it to the second round. Out of the 40-45 people only 11 made it to the second assessment. Unfortunately I failed even though I felt like I did a great job. I was aware of my smile, body language and chose to keep the introduction short and detailed.

Qatar Airways Cabin Crew Timelines

Sharing some Qatar Airways Cabin Crew timelines. Useful to see how it looks like for some of the candidates during their Qatar Airways process. And all these timelines are from this year 2018. Some candidates were asked to add additional documents while others were not asked that for various reasons etc. Each candidate has unique timelines and no candidate can be compared with each other. But it is pretty informative to check and see their timelines.
I hope you all find it informative.

Flydubai Cabin Crew application process 2018

The qualifications/requirements flydubai have for their Cabin Crew position are this::::::::

  • Min high school diploma
  • International aviation experience is an advantage
  • 1 year experience in customer service or sales
  • Able to deal with passengers professionally in a customer facing and sales role
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Basic numeracy skills
  • A valid passport allowing you to travel freely
  • Motivated, reliable, hardworking
  • Passionate, friendly & fun!
  • Min 21 years old
  • Excellent team player with the ability to communicate with many nationalities
  • Proud to wear the uniform & wear it well
  • No visible tattoos or body piercing which cannot be covered discreetly
  • Minimum height 158cms without shoes

Once in a while flydubai open their Cabin Crew recruitment and whoever that have these qualifications can apply via their career page:

https://careers.flydubai.com/

This year 2018 they opened their Cabin Crew recruitment in July. Candidates have to be quick to apply because they opened it quickly and closed it quickly. In July when they opened their vacancy they closed it approx less than 2 weeks.

The steps to apply are these::::::

First applicants apply and the initial application process is pretty simple. Candidates fill out the application, answer few questions and attach various documents/pictures.

Once the initial application stage is completed then the applicants will receive an online assessment sent to their emails.
The online assessment contains several tests. The tests are example aptitude test, English test, reading and writing test, logical test, situational test etc.

Below are some images that shows how the online tests were as an example, so you guys get an idea:::::

After you complete the online assessment part, IF you pass this step then you will be
shortlisted for their video interview.

The video interview is created by the company Hirevue, Emirates used to use this software Hirevue for their video interview, but then they stopped because of issues.

You can read more about Hirevue here:

https://nordic.businessinsider.com/hirevue-ai-powered-job-interview-platform-2017-8?r=US&IR=T

and
https://app.hirevue.com/learn-more/Pp3srww-cfnsib/

You get either 3 or 4 questions asked during the Hirevue video interview.  Questions that are asked during the flydubai video interview are example:

  • Why do you want to join flydubai?
  • What is excellent customer service for you?
  • Tell us about yourself and your working experiences
  • Would you like to add something about yourself that is not on your resume?

After you complete the video interview then you wait for the results. Some candidates get a response back either the ''congratulations for the next step'' email or the ''rejection'' email. Some candidates sadly gets forgotten and don't even get any response back. The timeline varies a lot candidate to candidates and while it varies it is a VERY long process.

For example a candidate shared this timeline in regards to their flydubai process:

14 July 2017 Application sent
14 July 2017 Online assessment
15 July 2017 Video interview
27 August 2017 Invitation for assessment day
11 September 2017 Assessment and Final interview completed
21 July 2018 Rejection email

Regardless if it is waiting for the video interview or the invite to Dubai candidates should expect a VERY LONG and frustrating PROCESS. flydubai is famous for having LONG recruitment process.

30+ Is it possible to get a Cabin Crew job with Etihad, Emirates or Qatar?

There are a lot of people out there that are wondering if Etihad, Qatar or Emirates hire people over the age of 30? I get this question a lot as well. Before I share my personal opinion on this lets check the age requirements that a couple of the Middle eastern airlines have right now. This is what they have mentioned in their job ads::::

Gulf Air:

Age: 23 - 30 years
......................

Oman Air:

Omani Male 18 – 35 years

Omani Female 18 – 35 years

Expatriate Female 21 – 31 years
........................

Kuwait Airways:

Between 20 to 32 years of age at the time of joining
...................................
Royal Jet VIP Cabin Crew:

Between 21 years of age (min hiring age) up to 31 years of age (maximum hiring age) before reaching 31st birthday
.....................................
Air Arabia:

Age: Between 20 to 26 years
...........................................
Saudia:

Minimum age is 20 years - Maximum age is 30 years.

(For those who have flying experience of 1 year or more with other airlines, maximum age is 35 years)
...........................................

I believe 100% that Etihad, Emirates and Qatar have a max age limit when it comes to their Cabin Crew positions. Some airlines openly advertise this and some don't.

Anyhow said this the ''oldest'' person I know that joined Qatar was 36 years old. That was last year 2019.

The ''oldest'' person I know that joined Etihad was 34 years old. But that was many years ago.

When it comes to Emirates, Emirates is known for hiring young candidates. They are known to prefer to hire below the age of 30. The ''oldest'' person that I know that joined Emirates was two years ago and she was 32 years old. I don't know anyone from year 2019 - today that was above the age of 30 that got hired by Emirates.

Most of the folks have been below the age of 30. I have also heard Emirates max age today is 32. Although that they prefer to hire below the age of 30. But 100% Emirates have a max age limit. But I believe Qatar and Etihad are more open to hire folks in the ages of 30-35 then what Emirates is.

Also as you guys saw above with other Middle Eastern airlines, all of them do not hire folks above the age of 35.

As of today 2020, I do not know anyone that joined Emirates being 30+. But again I believe Qatar/Etihad is OK with hiring up to 35, 36...

But it is really sad/disappointing that these airlines in ME have a max age limit. For example USA/EU/AUS airlines don't have a max age limit upon joining. Anyhow it is really disappointing.
