A Day In The Life Of A Etihad Cabin Crew

I thought i would share with you guys of how it was when i was a cabin crew with etihad…a look inside a day of being a cabin crew, so you guys could get a picture of how it is.....some procedures might have changed since I resigned back in 2012…but I will go through every step of the way from my alarm clock goes off to coming back home from the flight…..

Anyhow i chose: Muscat,Oman to write about … because its one of the super easy short flights we ever had…and its easy to go through….and I remember it as if it was yesterday…lol

the hours & timings might not be so accurate but I tried to remember as much as possible regarding the timings….

So here we go follow me on this flight:::: :-)

Muscat, Oman

Flight Departure 12:15pm from AUH (Abu Dhabi) airport

My alarm on my cell would go off at 07:45am in the morning....

I would get ready, makeup up done, hair done, earrings and a watch is obligatory to have…. uniform on, name tag on…wing pin on…hat on, the small carry on luggage ready to go with the handbag…at the beginning when I was a new joiner…as a crew…these stuff would take ages…to do……i would get up hours and hours before to do this all in a perfect way....
Cause if its not in the right way, we have this grooming manager at the airport that checks every crew for grooming/attire ect....and if you have been lazy and didnt do the things correct you can get a warning/ be reported....by the grooming manager...

But after let say 2months of flying….i found my routine….it didnt take me a long time to do my makeup and hair or remembering what to wear and all the other things cause it became so natural by than..we had no other choice of colors or shoes or whatever...so you know exactly what to wear and put on...simple as that...
….by now we all got used to this and had our own ways to fix all of this…MULTITASKING and having a good eye for details and being aware of things..time management skills.....those skills are needed here...and more...lol

09:00am

my pick up would be down stairs….picking me and other crew in the area up…we all had to sign this paper…on the bus..our names and destinations…so the driver would know and others ect…..some buses would stop at various crew accommodation to pick up other crew too….it all depended on where your accommodation would be at…but ur never alone in the buses.....their is always another crew going wherever....you might know her/him or u might not.....

I arrive at the airport approx 09:30am….

Just as every passenger goes through customs…so does the crew…we have this customs especially for staff/crew….

Than at the crew rooms,,,

We have these tv screens, where we can check which briefing rooms belongs to which flight….so we would know where to go to..to have our pre flight briefing….

After this…

we have this post room…where we all crew got the post….so before every briefing I had..i used to go to that room to check if I had gotten any letters….we don’t have any mailboxes at our buildings or by our apartment doors….all crew mailboxes are at this special post room at the airport…of course you can get a own mailbox for bigger packages sent to you or whatever...but i have no clue regarding this regulations or how that went ...cause i had no need for that....

By now the time is 10:00am

Than I go to this beefing room….and wait for the other crews that will work only on my plane and with me, cabin manager will be there too...….we have this 10min briefing…where the cabin manager and crew starts to introduce themselves..where we are from and what languages we speak…the cabin manager inform us about the passengers or info regarding other things.....the cabin manager will also ask us each 1 safety/security/ aviation health question…that each and one of us has to answer….if we cant answer it...we get another question...if we cant answer that on...i think we get another 3rd chance...if again we cant answer......
we get off loaded…its stressful during those moments , its like a mini exam you go through before every single flight….but after a while you get used to it….the questions that they ask us is the exact same questions you get on your exams during the training…so if you did well on your exams during your training you will sure do well during these briefing questions…if you wasn’t a good student like i wasn’t…it was stressful heheheehe to remember all that heheheeheh but you learn as years go I think….and after 6 months or more…you wont be as stressful as you were before….for some its easy….for others more difficult……

…than we get the info about  what positions we got…onboard….cause each cabin crew is responsible for one door….one crew sits by one door …the same exact door to and from the destination

….thats our area of responsibility…. Than we talk about the flight ect…than at the last minutes the captain and first officer comes in the room and talks a little bit..than we all walk out from this staff area…goes to the main area in the airport…..

Again we have to go through customs…the same custom area passengers go through…..but we don’t stand in line…like the passengers…we go before them….

Than we board the plane…around 1hour  or 40min before the passengers comes….

by now the time is…approx 11:00am…..

Now every crew goes to their area of responsibility by each door….and starts to do their safety and security checks…count safety equipments, ex count how many infant seat belts there is, or how many fire extinguisher you have in your area and more...ect…we do these checks by looking at this manual book we have…we always have to read this book and have it with us…so you do these checks by this book…..and we do these checks in that area we got…

if the window blinds are down we have to put them up…we put headsets on the seats…but with this short Muscat flight that only takes 45min…(the original flying hour from take off and landing is 1h and 10min, between muscat and abu dhabi, but with 45min i mean from the time the seatbelt sign goes off and we start do our service until the seatbelt sign goes on and we sit down on our jumpseats cause the plane is descending...not landing yet but descending  ) we don’t put headsets on the seats…sometimes we put those small earplugs on their seats…but not always.......longer flights of course we put headsets on the seats…

if the overhead bins  are closed we have to open them….we go put some lavatory amenities in the lavatories…wc´s are called lavatories….

If you are responsible for the galley, which is the kitchen….than u have to check and arrange and fix some stuff in the galley..and sign and talk with the caterers when they come and fill and change….only one crew is responsible for the galley….but others can help of course….and should help too cause its team work even if this person is signed to this area…..many crew loved to be a the galley operator as they called it…I didn’t….its actually loads of work to be done in that area…..sometimes the galley operators doesnt have to do the service on board like serving....cause they have to stay in the galley...some do both...depending on flights and situations ect.......

Now the time might be approx: 11:45am…..

Now the passengers are arriving, …everyone is standing at their area of responsibility…hats on and looking all smiley…grooming must be great here…we help passengers board….help with baggage’s…if needed…but not a must….give baby seat belts if there were any babies onboard… we would inform those sitting on exit seats…some info to them…..we would confirm to some guests who had ordered special meal….ect

When that’s done….its time for the plane to start moving…and leave their parking spot….

Now the safety demo is on…so each crew will stand by their special demo spots…and will show the exits or other stuff if needed…..than we go check if everyone have seatbelts on…window blinds up…seats upright, tray tables up, foot rest up…no one walking around or in lavatories…..

Than we go sit in our own jump seats and hats off,,,seatbelts on…..but still having jackets on….

It is always one crew that speaks arabic on board….so this Arabic speaker starts to do the announcement in arabic….and when he/she is done….one of the other crews will do the English version…..

Now we are up in the air…..when the seatbelt signs goes off we will get up and change clothes to our onboard aprons/scarf and will take off the jacket and shoes, and change to our onboard shoes….

Now we will help the person who is responsible in the galley to set up the carts and on longer flights we always hand out food menus…but during my time we didn’t do it on these short flights…perhaps now they do…I don’t know…..but on Muscat flight we didn’t do it….we would always give out special meals and kids meals first to those passengers who had a special order for it....

There is always 4 crew on board these A319-320….sometimes 5..but usually 4….2 is in economy…2 in front…a flight to Muscat they usually have a A319-320 …which is smaller….thats why we are always 4 crew….cause this A319 has only 4 doors….1 crew for each door…..

Usually on Muscat flight we used to serve bottle of water or juice…and a sandwich….easyyyyy peasy and such a smooth service/ flight….we have time to talk with the passengers, check the lavatories…we can even sit in the galley and have a tiny break…eat something perhaps and drink loads of water/soda lol…..hand out passenger survey cards perhaps…ect

During all my flights to Muscat we never had so many passengers on board either….like never full..so it was always  a very non stressful flight…enjoyable too..cause the flight is so short 45min...45min to Muscat and 45min back to Abu Dhabi…..but it gets stressful if the plane is full and we have to do the service for 45min....and on top of the service do other things too....

Before 45min, before the plane is soon reaching its destination, before the captain does his announcement..….we have to put the carts away and fix the galley and change clothes….do the announcements..make sure all the bags or whatever the passengers have infront of their legs is up in the overhead bins…locking the lavatories….check seatbelts…up with window blinds…make sure the seats are in upright position and all that….the foot rests up…the tray tables up…no cells on…ect ect….making sure onboard the plane is secured landing...so to speak.....

And before we know it…we are already sitting in our jump sets…having jackets on…and scarf off…doing announcements…..changed to the other shoes…..

When we land…announcements has to be made again…. In arabic and English….we put our hats on…checking our grooming….help passengers with luggage’s if needed….

When the plane is empty and all passengers have left….Now we do a post safety/security check…

At Muscat airport…it varies a lot how long we would be at the airport before next set of passengers would come onboard…but usually 40min stop…we won’t leave the aircraft…..we usually never leave the aircraft on turnarounds…..but sometimes we might end up staying on board for 3hours…on some turnarounds for various reasons….

Now it depends….if cleaners would board the plane to clean quickly….and leave we would do a safety/security check again once the cleaners left....but this would most often happen on longer flights.....
but usually on Muscat flights the cleaners wont come onboard in Muscat....they will come onboard in AUH.….…..
But let say if we had a turnaround and were at the airport for 3 hours...we would do a safety/security check when the passengers would leave...and once the cleaners would come onboard...done their thing and leave we would do a safety/security check againnnnnnn
because of safety reasons of course.....so yeah loads of checks here and there heheheeh

Now back to Muscat....lol

Anyhow after 40min….the passengers would come onboard…and we would do the exact same things we did on the way to Muscat…now we are doing the same thing to Abu Dhabi….

Once we land in Abu Dhabi….we walk off the aircraft…the cleaners would come in....we would take the bus to the main airport…sometimes we have this post briefing meetings in the bus ..but not always……..and we always go through customs….again….passport checks ect….at the airport….in Abu Dhabi…..
sometimes the grooming manager is there too, at the airport, to check grooming...for arrival crews....it never happened to me though, she comes and goes.....its not like she is there everyday....she is there sometimes......so better be aware of our appearance at all times!!!

Now we are free to go home…there are shuttle buses waiting for the crew to take us home…every shuttle bus goes to different crew building/areas…cause not everyone lives in the same area in town…some crew accommodation is  1h away from the airport…some 30min..some 40min….ect…..so u make sure u step into the right shuttle bus….but the bus drivers is standing outside….u just ask them which bus goes where……

Approx: 05:00pm

Now ur exhausted…by now the time is probably approx 05:00pm….even if it was such a short flight…u always get tired….cause I had gone up in the morning by 07:45am….and came home approx 05:00pm…even if the flight is a total of 90min….you did other things before and after…so its like a whole day activity thing……its truly tiring…imagine than longer flights…lets say a flight to Sidney, Australia, that is 14h straight flight……so a total off 28hours…..of course you have rest hours on board during these ultra long flights…and your layover.....but I was just giving you guys a picture……

Being a cabin crew is not as easy as many think it is…not a dance on roses….i admire people who is a cabin crew for years and years….its truly hard work….i only could survive this for 1 year….for various reasons of course……..but if you can do the work…you will sure play harder…as they say….the fun parts of being a cabin crew Is beyond your dreams…trulyyyyyyyyyyyyy, so the hard work is totally worth it to than ´´play´´ and enjoy your life in Abu Dhabi....so my hat off to those who work in this industry!!!

So this was one flight of many I used to do with etihad…but this was one of my favorites..cause its so easy and short and smooth…..we usually had so much fun with the crew too cause we would be such a small team and we had the chance to get to know each other more….we were like a small family…on those turnarounds…on those small airplanes….A319-320 ect…..we truly had so much fun specially on our Muscat flights…..well i had wonderful memories from those flights.... :-)

There might have been small details here and there…I didn’t write cause its confidential or forgotten….but I think I covered pretty much everything….

But every flight/destination have various service though….but the safety/security part is the same…usually same announcement for every flight too..but some destinations they have little bit different announcements….perhaps some events going on they need to announce ect….

Hope you guys enjoyed the flight I took you all through to and from Muscat, Oman…lol

Was fun for me too…to remember and go back to my old memories of my time in etihad as a cabin crew….

Well thank you for reading and hopefully enjoyed this as much as I did

I also hope this inspired you to continue and achieve your goal to become a cabin crew....NEVER GIVE UP.........but i may say this...Once you join Etihad or Emirates for that matter, you will fulfill many of your dreams....and have ONCE IN A LIFETIME EXPERIENCES....you only could dream of.....
So keep going....dont give up....You can achieve this.......good luck!!!!!!

This was a day/ flight in the life of a ex´´ Etihad cabin crew

  1. Hi! I've been reading a lot of your blog and it' s so informative and you're so kind to have all this work writing and answering, anyways...
I have an AD booked but also two tattoo in my lower leg.... I used to cover it with Derma Color at my previous CabinCrew Job but the medicals not physically exposing ... I have a friend in Etihad and she sayed to cover first and remove until the medicals... Not possible... Takes around 4 ( luckily )to 12 sessions of laser which means 4 to 12 month to totally clear it...and from the AD to DOJ can be like 1 month only! Can I ask to join latter ? Can I really say a minimum time until joining ( well not over 6 month of course)...
Do they touch or look really close your ankles and lower legs? Do you think in that area I can get away with Derma color covering until my removal is complete?
Dilemma : If I'm honest now at the AD in order not to miss the AD and get banned from applying again and say I' m removing it. Maybe I'll be invited to reaply in 6 month . But I just turned 36 this month and even dought I look 26 I' m afraid to be to old for them by the time I can reaply - do you see me getting hired with almost 37? I know you're all positive thinking and Maktub and the Secret ... I follow them all but well now I have doubts:)
Gimme" a if I were you" .... I' m so excited with this job opportunity and so wanting to get rid of this ones in my leg...even because they come to my town... Do you know if they go often to countries that speak the languages they are needing?
Sorry so many questions but every day I have different answers for them in my mind but nothing accurate ...
Big kiss and many thanks ! Xoxo

    1. Dear Mimi!!!

hope ur well and im happy u find this blog informative...thats the reason i started this blog in the first place....a place where people could come and find info about etihad and little bit of ek too.... :-)

so fun that u have a assessment coming up...exciting...GOOD LUCKKKK

during the Final interview they will ask you how soon u can join, you can say any amount from 1 month to 3 months....i think....
i had a friend and they asked her and she said 2,5 months, so they created her doj 2,5months later...so it worked for her.....
you just have to come up with a super smart answer when they ask....

as for the derma color, if that has worked for u in ur previous cc job than it will 100% work here at etihad too...cause i know a cabin manager who had a tattoo of a size of the palm of my hand inked on her ankle...she also covered it with makeup or whatever it was...so if a cabin manager can do it..so can u.....
so working with tattoos is no issues!

during the medical exam in etihad, no one touched my feet or ankles...or lower leg,,,,the closest i was to the doctor was when i had the white t-shirt on and a black pencil skirt...and i sat on the clinic bed and she came to me and checked my breathing.....and than i laid down at that bed so she could check my heart rate...
than she did the knee thingy...like knocked on my kneed with that tool she had....forgot the name now
that was all....and that was the closest any doctor been...during the medical exam...

during the time we do the medical exams, we only can wear a skirt and a white t-shirt which they will give to us...no stockings no nothing....

i have tattoos too...and the doctors saw it too but didnt say anything..i never declared them....one of my tattoos was on my arm..borderline to not legal..lol...but i got lucky no one said anything....

      Delete
    2. but dear Mimi said this....if this derma color thingy...will make your tattoo vanish as if its nothing there...not even a doubt....than go for the derma...but know its a risk ur taking....just as everything else in life...
cause during the medical exams we cant have stockings on....if we could..than u would be fine....cause the stockings would hide a little...like give it a fake vision...of nothing is there...

but imagine u sitting in the doctors clinic and the sun is shining in the room and ur leg might have different colors...thats whats im thinking of.....

but i was thinking during ur final interview.....if u tell them 2,5 months....than doing the laser removal....during the 2,5 months i dont know how many sessions u can do...but perhaps more than 2 times? anyhow...wouldnt these 2 sessions or even one session make ur tattoo go away little bit? or even fade...
than whatever it is left after the laser removal u can cover with derma....

but im pretty sure they wont approve your application if u would be honest and declared this lower leg tattoos..they are super strict about that....
so i dont think that would be safe
also during the assessment they will be giving u a tattoo declaration form, where u mark where the tattoo is,,,and lower leg is a big no no place.....
if i were u i would not declare my lower leg tattoos...

but u wont be banned from reapplying to etihad..if u would come clean during ur first assessment and declared your tattoo!
you can always reapply again cause etihad would assume you wanted to remove it....the tattoo i mean...

as for the age, i worked with a girl who was 36 years old..she was american...so having crew around ur age is possible!!!
also some of my batchmates who got hired at the same time as me were 33-34 years old...im not far away myself from the 30+ age...
but i dont think u should focus on the age,,,,just go and attend and do ur thing..ignore the age.....
i wish i could give u more accurate answers on this one...sorry
but dont have doubts ok!!! doubt will only make u more stressed and worried.....

i heard they fly more often to the countries that speaks the language they need more crew of ect....for sure they always need english speaking and arabic speaking...
but what other languages i dont know...

but if i were u of course i would go and try and ignore my age....u say u look younger than ur age right...so go and try!!!!!!

      and if i were u with ur tattoos...it is a risk...100%
but we only live once right??????
      either we win or loose....
.if i was selected for the job i would do the laser removal...up to the point to the date of join and cover the rest with derma...than continue the laser removal treatments during my time down there....
if anyone finds out u will show them that ur on the process of removal..and were on the process of removal even before applying...so their is no lie ...lol
and if u do get fired....what to do...u tried...nothing more with this right...

BETTER TO HAVE TRIED THAN ALWAYS WONDERED HOW WOULD IT BE

but this is my personal opinions... :-) some might not approve or wouldnt do the same....

      Delete
    3. but wouldnt u agree we need to be brave to take risks in life....if we dont take risks we wont gain anything....we will just go around around in the same circle...doors opens when we jump outside our comfort zone :-)

dont know if u read this part in my blog or not...but once i flew to UK on a 42h layover....during our layover me and one of my coworkers we went and had a tattoo each...me on my ribs...and she ON THE BACK OF HER NECK + WRIST...the next day she covered her NECK TATTOO + WRIST TATTOO with a watch and makeup.....thats it....
brave right.....regarding that co worker of mine....this i will never forget....ehehehehe

so yes loads of crew have tattoos....the only challenge is to pass the medical exam...upon arrival....thats the only one....to pass....

i hope ur trying with emirates too by the way with open days or assessment...

but im happy for u that ur excited...its a fun adventure....good luck once again

and its totally ok...i dont mind answering whatever questions u or anyone else have....im just happy if i can shed some lights on whatever topic or area i know or can help....as u can see i love to write...and share one piece of my mind too hehheheeh

hope some of my words gave u little bit of clarity....
      wish u all the best
and i promise u everything will fall into place if its meant to be.... :-)

      take care

    5. :-)
everything in life is both exciting mixed with fear/doubt..so whatever ur feeling is natural...and expected
regarding the medical exams.....if ur healthy and know nothing is wrong with u than ur fine....no need to be worried about this :-)
etihad is strict about the medical exams but as long as ur healthy than ur good to go...they obviously are strict because as a crew ur exposed to a lot of stuff so they want to make sure ur strong enough to handle all of that ur healthy ect....and have nothing to stop u from doing ur job while being healthy
the stuff they check on the medical exam and do are these:
blood tests, vision test, hearing test, vaccines, weight check, chest x ray, normal check up and urine test.

here u can read a pre-employment medical form..and u get a picture of what they will be looking for and check for ect...and what u need to have and not ect

have a lovely last day of april :-)

  2. My Dear how wonderful are you!!!!! Just the information I needed !! Actually that was my plan ... If I can go latter than a month for my DOJ... I' m checking all the places to start removal before AD... Than try to do as many as I can before going to medicals! If I can go in 3 month it means I can do like 4 sessions of laser which is already very good It 'll be very fainting already and Dermacolor.
The thing was in my previous CC job the medicals were not so strict and on duty the Dermacolor plus tights it's not noticeable .... Anyways different company different procedures ....:)
Portuguese is actually one of the languages that they need now and asking specifically for but if I fail this AD ( cause I got clear about this things) I' ll have to wait 6 month plus a day they are coming and if I'll be able to go plus I' ll be even older by then... Lol I don't look nor feel my age but that's in my ID card..... And there are that prejudice in my country regarding working as Cabin crew ... Joining I mean not if you got the job earlier in your life like that is up to 65 years old... Just for start is hard past an age .....
But I'm happier and more positive after reading your answer !! I'll ask for 3 month! I'll think an excuse....do you think I can say it's work related? If I ask my present job boss to say the same ...or that I need to rent my house and in between my job and the house I need that time to organize myself ?? Sorry your my Etihad wizard now!!!;)
Girl, the things you write ( about positiveness, God, the Secret... )It's me!!!
Well tomorow I' ll check the tattoo shop for removal now!!!
Have a wonderful day !!!:) xoxo

    1. you are soooo funny :-)) and sweet, i totally hope u will get this etihad job...cause etihad need a funny and cheerful person like u onboard :-)

people like you who are determined and would sacrifice money/time/energy or whatever for a dream or something....i think that is POWERFUL....
i actually did the same before i got it...cause its a investment for our future.....

regarding ur laser removal....start it once u know u got the job....cause u dont know yet right...would be such a shame to remove such a cool tattoo (i assume its a cool one :-))
but it seems u got a perfect plan and i think it will totally work....

i think u should not think about what happens if u fail 1st time....and what will happen 2nd time...regarding ur age....
think about that once u done the 1st assessment....regardless how it goes from there....figure out another way.....
cause thinking about it now will only make u more worried....
i know its easier said than done....

and there is prejudice about everything in this life now a days....so let those stuff float around....and dont let them get to u....and destroy ur good energy......

but im sooo happy u feel little bit lighter after reading my answer...all u can do now is to chill and find a good laser tattoo place...

YES u can say its work related, that in ur contract its 3 months notice....something along those lines..
but i dont know if etihad would go for the rent ur house and in between job thingy...or u need time to organize urself....i dont think that would be a good answer....
but the work related thingy is a more stronger answer...if u can work around that its better....

its wonderful that ur into being positive, god, and the secret and all those positive stuff...i trulyyy believe if we focus on the positive stuff, positive stuff will only have room to enter our lives.....it is totally true.......
      never change ur mindset......

I hope the best for u.....good luck with all the stuff.....
      take care oxoxo

  3. Hi again!! I have wrote to you before, and always love to read your new posts, I have it on my bookmarks :D
Its sad for me to read that you no longer work for etihad :""( really sad..and I was wondering why did you leave? I know its a pretty personal question but I want it to know because I'm afraid of been trough the whole hard process of been selected by etihad and then be forced to leave because the job is to demanding or other reasons like payment, or homesick.. so that's my first question, the second one is: The payment is good? I mean, If your gonna be working on the other side of the world..its really worth it? and the last and more personal question is that I have read about how hard its been gay or lesbian over there, and that is against the law and all that stuff.. If you saw me or knew me you wouldn't even tell (I'm really serious) jajaja but the thing is, the people are open-minded?..the reason I ask these is not because Im gonna tell everyone hahahaha but if someone find out about it.. Am I gonna be in trouble because of that?.. or the people that I work with will judge me some how?.. Because I'm afraid to feel uncomfortable or something..

Well I guess that's it hahaha
Hope wherever you are, You're reaching a new goal
Tons of blessings for you, best regards :)

PD: I think you are extremely kind for answering everybody's doubts and giving advice's.

    1. Welcome again :-) thank you for being so sweet and all ur kind words....

let me see if i can shed some light on those questions u had....

      first about the salary:
the salary is the BEST ever...i think this job i had as a etihad crew was the highest earning salary i ever got in my life...crazy ...tax free too!!!
well on days we had a lot of turnarounds and not many layovers my salary was around 1700 euros - 1900euros...
while if i had a lot of layovers in europe i could get around 2000euros - 2300euros....
it all depends where we fly to....
and accommodation is free, transport to and from work is free, u get allowance on layovers...its tax free salary too...so the etihad crew live luxurious in my opinion....plenty of opportunities to save money too....
working in economy u earn this kind of money...than if u get promoted to work in business u get even more..imagine that..
when it comes to the salary its veryyyy good! :-)

and yes its all worth it, not only the money but the experience, the countries u get to see..the friends for life u get...the new culture u learn and adapt too, the opportunities that come across and the doors that opens....so this is a ONCE IN A LIFETIME CHANCE....and u learn so much about urself and u grow....its truly something i recommend...

it is something i think everyone should do if they get the chance to do it and are interested in aviation ...before they die :-))

than u might ask why did i leave than if this was soooo good...
      heheheeh
it started with that i lost the passion for the job with those emotions of not wanting to do this job anymore..i got depressed somehow, it just hit me...like i didnt wanted to go to work anymore...ect ect...
      there is a long story...
but u can read little bit about me resigning here:::

      http://cabincrewdreamer.blogspot.se/2012/05/end-good-bye-etihad.html

      +

      http://cabincrewdreamer.blogspot.se/2012/06/exit-etihad-done.html

so perhaps u can get a pic why i left....although its a long story and more to it too...but for now i think this will do :-)

as for if the job is demanding, yes, it is...but u can deal with it..its a challenge, but in life its good to be challenged i think for us to grow and learn..that was what i did......some can take it and some cant i guess...but as every job it is demanding and has its up and down...but for sure this is way better than most jobs though......

about peoples sexuality as crew in etihad/ abu dhabi....there is tonsss i assure u that are gay in etihad, few lesbians too i think...and they are loving it regardless sexuality

...yes it might be difficult in the sense of dating in public,,,if ur lesbian/gay u cant go hand in hand or be in public show ur sexuality, like kiss or makeout ectt...
but that is ok for most people because they knew this is the rule they have to live by, so most people hide it....

...i have tons of coworkers who are gays actually, and the thing is as a crew you dont spend so much time in abu dhabi/dubai, u fly most of the time, so when u get bored of uae, u will be somewhere else, if u get bored being somewhere else u get back to uae,

      ---read below

      Delete
    2. the people in abu dhabi & dubai they dont mind whatever sexuality u got, as long as u dont show it....or talk about it in public...
but its the same with straight couples too, they cant show their love in public either,
because of respect for the religion or culture and customs ect..

i mean u can do whatever u want behind closed doors, no one will come into ur house and arrest u for it...but just not in public areas....
at clubs its different rules though, people bend the rules so much at clubs, lol
its crazy how it is ok to do whatever people want to do at clubs while stepping outside its no no....
but at clubs people can be more free, little bit not that much though.....like holding hands is ok...and being closer ect...

said that....u shouldnt feel uncomfortable at all dear, there is tons of gay crew and some lesbians, that work as crew,,,,no one will bother u or judge u....

although its difficult for couples of any sexuality to show and express love in uae because its a muslim nation....

but it doesnt mean we cant live our lives and feel comfortable.....of course we can....!!!
so please dont feel worried or scared that moving to abu dhabi/dubai will not allow u to be who u are!!!!
u can totally be who u are and live a life without a fear in abu dhabi/dubai

hope this helps little bit, and hope i explained it well, there is more to be told and read about this topic regarding sexuality in uae...i might not be a expert in this topic, but i tried to explain it from what i saw and was told regarding this...

...and thank u once again for all ur kindness....and i hope u will reach ur goals too!!!!
we will see what tomorrow has in store for all of us .-)
      god bless u take care

How did you send your C.V?
if I uploaded trough the Etihad website they're gonna notice my cv?
what do you recommend me? Because I live in venezuela..

Ur welcome dear and if u have any further questions let me know...no worries...

regarding etihad application, there is two ways...
1 is: everyone has to register via etihads website..and once u register and apply...they will check ur resume and invite u to a assessment if they think ur resume is good..
u will than have access to this booking system where u can book ur assessment in whatever city u desire...
2; they have this open assessment that everyone can join without invitation...

but i highly recommend to do a closed assessment like getting invited...as tons and tons of people can show up during open days...and its harder to be noticed....

u live in Venezuela, so once u apply and u get access to this booking system, u can choose to attend any city that is closest to ur city....

GOOD LUCK and have a lovely weekend....

I am going for an Assessment Day for Etihad very soon. I was wondering if you could tell me how was your recruitment process.

And what are the medical exams that you had to do, if you know about any disease that deny a candidate to get the residence visa.

  6. Hello Dear! Your blog has fallen from heaven! First place, I wanna express gratitude about this blog, you have no idea how blessing it is for all of us who are shooting at cabin crew opportunities. I felt so inspired with your wonderful writing, so helpful! It is actually funny because I am an Argentinian young woman, my parents honestly were quite poor and I couldn't travel at all, they were not in conditions to pay, they could barely afford to pay my English lessons, and a few other courses, but I always dreamed that I wanted to travel around the world, and become a flight attendant, I was surrounded with wonderful people that supported my craziness but there were also a few others that used to attack me so negatively making fun of me and the idea of myself traelling abroad. The possibilities of me travelling were minimal, but I always had this positive attitude, I got a job as a tour guide when I turned 18 and 6 months later I met a flight attendant male on my tour, and we got along very well and he became my bf! so I got travel benefits through him! I went to visit him to US, and I have traveled around more than 33 states in the US, met wonderful people and made tos of new friends! even my American visa had been rejected at first place but i got it 2 weeks later after reapplying again!!!!, because of this very special person, that even though he is not longer my bf, I always have this wonderful reference about him, I got to see the world, and I have lived in China for 2 years and I have survived and had a blast there, and returned back to Argentina a year ago with lots of savings and full of great memories rich in life, but the funny part is that even my dad who hasn't ever flown in his whole life, made this huge effort to go to visit me in China!!!! he had never flown before and he had chosen one of the longest flights for his first time! anyway he gave me as a present this book " The secret" a lot people think I am out of my mind when I talk about this, but then I prefer being out of my mind, happy, and reaching my goals instead of just critizising. And I remember he wrote a nice quote on the cover and it literally changed my life. I was positive before when I was a teenager and I had faith, and I got what I wanted, but that book helped me to get even better.... so I cherish your positiveness!!! the world must have more of it!!!! :D well now my question! I have an AD next month, gotta go to Brazil, I am not very tall, I am normal height, 1.60 cmts but I can reach at 2.15 mts with my arm ( on tip toes)... are there any 1.60 cms girls as cabin crew? do they actually measure your height and weight? Again thank you very much! I keep a positive mindset for this old back on the road dream, be a FA! :D xoxo Ale

what a journey through life u have had...
im happy u found this blog and it could give u something, anything, whatever it may be...
you seem to be such a adventurous person with a positive mind....im so happy ur ex cc bf came into your life so he could open those traveling doors for u...sometimes some people come into our lives for a reason...to perhaps open a gate way into something we couldnt..so bless his soul....than u have this amazing experience in china...wow....so cool...and u being a travel guide...so u have tons of experiences to become a cc....
most shocking to me though was when ur dad brought u that book..which is the best book i ever read...in my etihad training one of my trainers she introduced this book to all of us and told us to read it..since than im hooked into that way of thinking....cant believe ur dad this wow such a wonderful thing...so precious and beautiful.... ur dad is great....dear never change ur attitude and the way u are...its easy for our mind and this world to kill that spirit and sometimes we are low and down...but dont change this wonderful side of urs....
anyhow congrats on getting ur invite for next month in brazil....yayyyyy so much fun....
ur height which u mention 160cm...I AM 160cm...and i could reach both etihad and emirates reach test....just make sure to practice at home reaching exercises to be more flexible.... no they dont measure your height in that way...they put up a sticker on the wall which u have to reach with ur finger...if u can reach it u passed....and no they dont measure our weight....
i wish u all the best dear and thank u for sharing this wonderful story with me...
if u havnt read my posts about ek and ey recruitment process do so it will give u a idea of how it will look like...

On my profile I can "book an interviw", but none of the countries available is near to me. Since this is the list of interviews for july and august, can I wait and see if there will be an inteview closer to me later or will the invitation "expire"?
    Thanks for the answer :)

    1. Hello dear
regarding your booking system and the waiting period....i think once you get a invite its valid for 6 months...and when it will expire the etihad recruitment staff will contact you via email when it comes close to expire...they will ask you to reapply or if you want to remain in ´´line´´ ect ect....
etihad staff will always be in touch with you regarding your application....
      good luck....

  8. Hi cabincrewdreamer. In Malaysia, cabin crew graduates whom are trained privately at academy like cabincrewmalaysia.com can avoid 5 years bonding by airline when they are hired directly as cabin crew by airline. Does Etihad hire direct cabin crews from academy?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. hello dear....
i heard about various cc academies and schools ect...but there is not a guarantee that etihad will hire u if u went to a school like this or not...i have a friend who did a cabin crew course and he still havnt managed to score a job with etihad...even if that course he took was so expensive and very good.... of course it a HUGE + for those who do this...but not always a guarantee, BUT those who went through these schools WILL 100% have it much easier during the etihad cc training...thats for sure....
but i can say that people without these cc courses get the etihad job too....so i dont know if its worth doing it or not..when it comes to scoring the etihad job....but its 100% a big positive thing to have in your resume!!
but i have noticed etihad do check your working experiences a lot more than educational background it seems...as they want people to have worked in customer service jobs ect.....
anyhow dear Syakinah i wish u a lovely day :-)

    2. ps : no etihad does not hire directly from that academy or any cc course..

  9. Hello there,

I am very glad that I found your blog. It is really helpful. I am joying Etihad in few weeks... can't wait :)

I have one question: you said that at the medical examination you were wearing a white t-shirt. Did the doctor ask you to take it off?
I am asking it because I have a tattoo as well, but it is in the middle of my back. I said it to the recruiters. And they said that if it is not visible with the uniform it will not be a problem.

    Thank you very much!!!

    1. hello dear anonymous!!!
congratulations for scoring this job dear.....and well done.....so exciting that ur journey starts in few weeks...wish u all the best!!!!!

during the etihad medical exams...we went to this etihad medical center...we had to take off our bra and stockings...and jewelery and watch too....and only wear the white -tshirt they give u...also our own black skirt...underwear yes....
we had to take off these cause they did xrays and checked our lungs ect....with these machines i forgot the name..so no metal could be on us...
no i never took the t-shirt off nor did any doctor ask us to take it off..
But during one time when i was in the doctors office, she checked my back with the stethoscope and she just pulled the t-shirt up from my back herself.....and she even checked my breasts for lumps ect....but she didnt ask me to take it off....
i dont think u should be worried about ur back tattoo cause its not visible....no worries....
i even had a arm tattoo which i never declared and the dr´s didnt say anything....
      so no worries dear......ur safe....

take care and enjoy ur last days in ur own home country!!!

    1. dear ana...
      hope ur well
congrats on scoring a final interview!!!
      well done
this burn mark on ur leg is it visible if u wore the etihad uniform?
they will ask u about tattoos or scars...ect
if this burn mark isnt so visible and u can cover it with foundation ..if i were u i would not declare this....
if this mark isnt even visible while wearing the uniform i would still not declare it...
if its big and hard to hide i would declare it...
i never heard of anyone or had friends who were sent home from a burn mark ect...
i even had a mark on my eyebrow at that time which i even forgot to hide or cover during my ad and no one said anything and in the medical center in etihad no one said anything
it depends on how ur mark is...
its a fine line this thing about declaring tattoos/scars or marks ect...
sometimes something little doesnt need to be declared i believe and it even might cause suspicious and worries in the etihad department that they might reject u because of this
when in the first place people shouldn't even declare such tiny stuff
i hope u can find a way to go around this .....
but dont worry dear...hopefully everything will be ok
good luck on the final interview
      have a great day

    2. Thank you for your quick answer. It's in my lower leg, it's a little visible. The mark is now on healing process, I burned my leg a few weeks ago. If I declare it in my final interview, can I be eliminated? Sorry, but I don't know what to do. I already thought not to go to the fi, because I think that they can say a big no

      Delete
    3. ur welcome dear ana...
ohhh i see so u burned ur leg few weeks ago..and its healing as we speak
than dear i wouldnt declare it if i were u .,,cause i bet this would be healing..and u can easily cover it with foundation...
there is this DERMA COLOR company or brand people use this to cover tattoos or marks or scars...and one co worker of mine in etihad had a scar on her leg and she covered it with this derma color...dont know how to find this...but check this out ok
i wouldnt declare this at all if i were u as u recently got it and i bet it will heal soon and u wont need to worry about this
i dont know if they would eliminate u or not because of this
but i would not declare this if i were u
if they would find out in abu dhabi..just say few weeks ago u got this burn mark...ect
its not like u got this few years ago and its still visible ect...this burn mark could have easily happened after ur final interview right...
PLEASEEE go to the final interview...dont loose this chance....because of this mark...
i think u will be fine dear...dont worry about this..dont let ur mind trick u into creating these walls to stop u ok!!!!!!!!!!!!
go for it and dont declare it...this is what i would do
      good luck dear....oxoxo

    4. What a great idea! I've never thought about that! I bought a vichy foundation to cover up, and i am using some creams to heal quickly. If I pass, in the body check, they look at my legs, or touch them? Sorry about all this questions, but I want this so badly.
Thank u so much for the answers and your patience :)

      Delete
    5. no worries dear ask as many questions as u need....i wouldnt mind sharing whatever i have or know....
yes do use those creams and foundations and everything u can find....
also when u work as crew u wear stockings so stockings + foundations ect to cover it..would be fine
no they never touched our legs during the medical exams...
      u only wore a white t-shirt and a skirt...although without stockings....
as long as u cover it and it would look natural u would be fine....
remember u can always say u got this burn few weeks ago and its healing....
just go for it and do ur best on ur final interview...
during ur final interview pretend the mark doesnt exist so it wont make u stressed out....
i dont see anything wrong with this mark burn u recently got...
good luck and have a great night oxoxoxo

  12. Hi cabincrewdreamer! I just loved your blog, it was really helpful! I have a doubt... I'm moving to Abu Dhabi next month (to work for Etihad), and everyone keeps telling me that everything in Abu Dhabi is really expensive. How much money do I need to take, considering that I'm not gonna spend money with rent, transport, and etc? Which expenses do we have there? What things I should take from my country (that are expensive there and cheaper in other countries)?

And another question, do you know if it's a problem if we have the "wisdom" teeth? I still have mine and i won't have time to remove it here, and i heard that dentists are really expensive there... They don't bother me, but i heard that Emirates asks people to remove it before going to Dubai...

    I'm starting to get scared!

    1. hi there....
well i actually think the opposite about the prices in abu dhabi...i come from a European country and when i went to abu dhabi i also thought abu dhabi would be expensive but compared to the euro here its actually not bad...
of course if u go shop in brand stores it will be expensive...but i found it to be a great ok place to live in....u have a lot of choices for every wallet....
taking the taxi to and from the city was sooo cheap.....compared to the euro we pay here in Europe....
some stuff might be expensive but it depends where u shop at....like everywhere in this world u have choices.....
ex u have a choice to go grocery shopping in a expensive store or u can choose to go grocery shopping in a cheaper place...its all about choices....
when i went to abu dhabi the first time i took with me around 1730EURO pocket money...while this was more than enough...for me...than u get training allowances and meal allowances as well.....
the only expenses i had over there was paying the internet, phone credits, food, entertainment ex going out with friends or dinners or shopping ect..thats it...
not much is needed as everything else is paid for....
i actually didnt bring anything extra with me from my country to abu dhabi as i could find those stuff in cheap places...even cheaper price than my own country which has euro...
everyone have different lifestyles and live various ways economically..ex it was very easy for me to save half the salary each month and spend the half the salary.....
      it depends on the person.....
ex i had friends who would be broke at the end of the month cause they would party all the money...while we have me who could have some money left at the end of the month..than we have people who truly could save loads of money...so its different and it all depends on the person....
as for wisdom teeth, i remember crew telling me they still have theres....
other than this info i have no idea what the rules are about wisdom teeth as i removed mine a long time ago....
dont worry dear....everything will be fine...
its usually unclear about everything before people move to a new country...its normal to feel how u feel..and we are humans to feel anxiety or be scared so thats alright...
just enjoy ur last weeks in ur home country before u start ur new adventure in life...wishing u all the best and congrats on scoring this job so many dream of...
      god bless you

well as for the money u guys get during the training isnt much....all i remember is we got some money + another amount of meal allowance as well....although i dont remember the amount to be honest.... :-/ sorry....as this was 2,5 years ago....
but i remember i brought with me around 1700euros pocket money from my home country....just to be safe.....so this amount + the amount we got from etihad was more than enough for me......for the whole 7 weeks...until i got the next salary after 7 weeks....
wish you the best on 6th of oct... :-)

    1. Hi dear....

on ground + before take off + landing in the destination + going to the hotel the crew have to have the jacket on at all times....perhaps sometimes if its a big heat wave inside the plane during boarding they can take off the jacket....

BUT during the service the jacket has to come off...and they only do the serving with the white shirt, apron.....
sometimes when the service is over...and its rest time or its cold, the crew can wear some cardigan.....

but u know you can cover your mark, with makeup right..or those derma color foundation thingy...check it up..as many crew who had tattoos/marks/scars used this.....

Take care :-) have a great day xx

as for swimming...no they wont test ur swimming abilities on the assessment...they will only do this once u got the job in abu dhabi during ur 7 weeks initial training...and its not the usual swimming...like swim 200min back and forth no...u even have a life vest on..u jump in the tiny ice cold pool..and u and few of ur batchmates do some group stuff in the water...they just wanna make sure u can work in group in the water...then u guys swim to the raft which is 2 second swim away from u....in this tiny pool...and u guys climb up to this raft...and do some stuff in the raft.....
but do practice swimming so u will feel comfy in the water...if u cant swim properly...
once again thank u for ur kind words...
wish u all the best on ur ad...

dont let ur age stop u!!!
i know 35 years old is the max age for emirates...for etihad is higher...but dont know for sure....
YES go for etihad..as ur age 29 is still ok......100% u should give it a go....
i have a friend who got his etihad cc job few months ago and he was 32 years old...i know tons more...in there 30´s....so u being 29 isnt something that would stop u...

  19. Hello Cabincrewdreamer, I have a question and hope you can give me an advice because I'm totally freaking out :((((
I got my contract for Cabin Crew at Etihad and signed it, my joining date with Etihad is October 6th, but I had some issues with my family so yesterday I e-mailed ccrecruitment to see if they could maybe postpone my joining date for a week later, if that is not possible i wrote then I'm OK with that date..
I got no answer yet and I seriously hope I didn't blow everything for my self..I really need this job, and right now I'm thinking about mailing them again to see if they can ignore that e-mail from yesterday, and say I can join on the arranged date, I seriously don't care about anything else...
What do you think? Please help , I don't know what to do:(

    1. Hello there....hope ur doing well
i totally understand that this will add stress and frustration for u.....but dont worry everything will be fine :-)
regarding the communication with etihad...they are very busy and short of staff and its normal that it takes a while for them to reply...and dont worry this doesnt mean u have shot down ur chances....but good u emailed them as they are there to help u guys...also it take them a long time to send out all the details ect....i remember i got the ticket 1-2 days before departure ect..every single detail takes a long time....but why not calling ur coordinator...i dont know if u got details from this person or not...anyhow wait 1-2 days and see how it goes...if nothing happens email them again.....or try to call the recruitment if u have a number...
try to remain positive....and things will be ok...good luck dear
and wish u the best on 6th or whenever ur date of join will be....
      take care xxx

  20. Thank you soooo so so much for your reply! You really calmed me down, I know they must be busy over their heads, my biggest concern was that it might seem I'm irresponsible or something for asking one more week before joining after singing the contract..I never spoke to a coordinator or anyone, all the communication was by e-mail, so even if I called them I wouldn't know who to ask or what to say :/ ....but I'm sure I'll get an answer tomorrow........I just don't want them to give up on me! :)) THANKS again for your reply, <3 I wish you all the best!!! <3

    1. ur welcome dear...and im sure u will be on the plane soon off to the flying world....even if u called,, they could look up ur file and answer any question u have..or u could ask for them to connect u to the recruitment department...all the recruiters have access to ur file as they can look it up on there system...and they would see what status u have ect....so it wont hurt if u call....
u know we all are humans and any situation can come...and of course we have the right to change dates or have any questions or whatever...they are aware of this....this is a human factor...so dont worry...or think they would think something else about u....
      remain positive... :-)

  23. Hello my name is Laura
I have a quick question regarding the Etihad uniform. I am wondering if there is a pants suit option? I read the regulations about no visual tattoos and unfortunately I have one on my lower leg and was wondering if there is botha skirt option and a pants suit option? If you have any comments regarding this with regards to Etihad or any other airlines that would be great. THANK YOU!

    1. hello dear laura!
regarding the etihad uniform....unfortunately etihad dont allow pants...only skirts allowed onboard.....the crew only wear pants on jeddah flight because of some regulations ect...and sometimes on tehran flights i think...
emirates allow crew to wear either skirt and pants...they can choose themselves...
i dont know how big ur tattoo is...if u can hide it under makeup or not...
cause i have flown with crew who had tattoos on that area u mentioned...they hide it with this dermacolor makeup thingy..and stockings...so its possible...but there tattoo wasnt so big....the biggest tattoo i saw onboard on that area u mentioned on a crew was perhaps as big as our palms...ect.....
so its up to u if u think u can hide it or remove it with laser :-)
but if i were u i would go for emirates....
have a great day dear laura...

  24. hi Cabincrewdreamer,
My wife is aspired to do international flights on Etihad Airlines. She did domestic flights in india for almost three years now. I know how hectic the job is cuz, i have seen her doing that for a couple of years. Crazy hectic schedules sometimes and waking up so early in the morning is almost a daily routine for her. She is really a professional woman when it comes to work. She loves doing what she does. We got married this year. But i live here in Canada, and i wonder how safe in all terms it is for somebody like her who would live there during her work away from her family and myself...

i wish u and ur wife the best
and YES living in UAE is very safe...its actually the safest place i ever lived in before....doors of opportunity will open for ur wife if she scores a job with etihad or emirates...
but remember that she should never write or mention that she is married...cause nor etihad nor emirates does hire married people...
so tell her to write in her application she is single...
a lot of crew are married but its a private thing and the companies doesnt need to know
the reason they want single crew...is that they think single crew will work longer....than married crew...and that single crew would stick to the contract ect....
good luck to both of u....wish u all the best

  25. Hi Cabincrewdreamer,

I must say I enjoyed reading your blog, and your words meant a lot for my future decision about buisiness career :)

Anyway, I am 24, and I applied for Etihad ground staff working, specifically Guest Service Agent position. I also come from Europe, and regarding that, I have 2 questions for you.

First one is, do you know anyone who has worked as GSA and what are their expiriences? Also, is their salary (700e) enough for living in Abu Dhabi?

Also, I wanted to ask you, if I get this job and start working, I am signing contract on 1 year.. So my question would be, could I apply for cabin crew position after 1 year of working as GSA, and would that mean anything for them to hire me?

I never tried apply for cabin crew, but I as more I think about it, the more I love it :))

Hope hearing from you soon! :)
    Wish you all the best!

    1. hi there...hope ur well
regarding etihad ground staff/ guest service agent position....unfortunately i dont have any info about this because i dont know anyone who had this position...
regarding the salary 700aed...u mean 700aed right? or 7000aed? 700aed thats not much actually....even if the housing is paid for and everything else....you who come from europe..this pay is very low....very lowwww....but if u mean 7000 aed...thats a different story....BUT u can survive on it in abu dhabi..with 700aed..there is tons of people with less salary and they survive...but i can tell u ....having this salary....it wont give u a standard lifestyle....example if u like to enjoy urself in abu dhabi and entertain urself u wont be able to survive on this salary.....
but if u would example not do much....stay at home a lot...than u will survive....if u mean 7000aed...than its possible to have a ok lifestyle and live on it....
but i heard working as ground staff at the airport is a lot of work...and earning that little money isnt much...so to me its not worth it....

i dont know the rules about applying for cabin crew via being a ground staff....but i bet there must be a rule for this...example i have a friend in dubai who works as ground staff similar position as u mentioned and she wanted to become a ek crew...but the company has rules for her....they have to be in the company for 2 years...and than resign the ground staff job and go back to there home country and apply ALL OVER AGAIN for cabin crew...

so i doubt there would be a easy way for u to get etihad...even having this experience or worked at abu dhabi airport....

what i suggest u do is to apply directly as a cabin crew for etihad....do that.....instead going that way via ground staff

if i were u, if my salary was 7000aed for ground staff i would take it..it would be good experience....but NOT if i earned 700aed....i wouldnt do it for that amount of money.....

wish you the best dear....i hope whatever u do that u will succeed and be happy with it
      be safe
      have a great day

    2. ehehehheh, I meant 700 euros (sorry for misunderstanding), that is 3550 aed I think... and I also think that they are paing for my accommodation..

well, I would go with cabin crew directly, but i applied for this position and now they are considering me, so I am in doubt, because I'm afraid to say no, what if they don't want me there as a cabin crew, then I would be regretting for not taking this opportunity... :))

anyway thank you so so much for quick reply, you are the best :))

      Delete
    3. And what do you think about 3550 aed for living in Abu Dhabi? :) Is that enough for decent kind of life? I mean not to live luxury, just to live normal :) Sorry for bothering, but I have so many questions, and so little time to find out and decide :))) xoxo

    4. hi dear.....
heheh oh u meant 700euros...well its not good its not bad either...still u can survive on this salary...but u wont be able to save anything...it would be living paycheck to paycheck....
its ok actually to turn down offers people get from etihad or emirates...people still have chances to get jobs within whatever department afterwards....
i know friends of mine who turned down offers and after got a job as cabin crew or other positions within the company both in etihad and emirates...so dont worry that they wouldnt want u later on if u turned down a offer.....
if i were u i would not take this offer...cause the salary is still low...it would be struggle for u...specially coming from europe with the standards there...
either u take this offer and have to live to limits and not being able to spend a lot...but gain experience and it would be a plus on ur resume...or wait and try with etihad directly as a cabin crew....
u have tons of choices..... :-)
but again follow ur heart..and do whats best for u :-)
      wish u the best dear
      good luckkk

    1. dear emily...
      hope ur well...

regarding gap u have between two of ur front teeth....well i have flown with crew who had a gap between there front teeth...so i doubt it would be a problem ....if i flown with crew having gaps between there front teeth than it means ur good to go :-)

stretch marks on the back of ur knees....well i have them too..the same as u....during the recruitment no one will see because u will have skin colored stockings....during ur training/flights no one will see once again because of the stockings.....and during the medical exams no one will look for those either.....
so no this wont stop u at all...
if u feel this is something u dont like, u can always put some foundation or something to cover it..for u to feel better about it...
if ur ok with the way they are...than dont worry at all...

go for it...wish u all the best.....there is nothing that can stop u from getting what u want....so think positive and GO AND WIN :-)

  27. Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone can tell me the regulations for having a family member stay over for a holiday in Etihad housing? If i was a member of cabin crew, would my sister be allowed to stay with me in my apartment when she visited abu dhabi?
    Thank you so much xx

the rules about having visitors staying over at ur etihad apartment, it depends on who you want to invite.
example if ur a male, only fathers brothers can come and stay over for a amount of time..and u and ur roommate have to sign this paper...
if ur a girl, than only sisters and mothers can come...males cant have sisters or mothers over....and girls cant have fathers or brothers...because of the rules....
      have a nice day

  28. Hello there :)

Thank you so much for creating this blog. There is so much resourceful information here. Judging by the way you were very detail in your reply, I think you must have been very sweet and attentive.

I am from South East Asia and I'll be joining Etihad very soon on January next year. I'm planning on what to bring there. You know, packing could be a pain sometimes.

If it's possible, can you please tell me what you remember they gave you in the starter pack when you arrived in Abu Dhabi. I heard there were just some snacks and a dining set. New trainees have to either buy or bring their own cooking utilities, bed cover, etc... Is this true? I can only find some info on Emirates starter pack and they give their trainee quite many thing to start with.
And also, does Etihad give us any money to start with at all? I read that there will be meal allowance. Will this amount of money be deducted from salary later on? And also, when will we receive the first salary? Will it be at the end of the month or at the end of the training? I'm a bit money tight right now, so I'm thinking of bring there whatever that I can bring from home to save money. And I think I can only squeeze in about $500 pocket money by the time I go there. Will this be enough for me to survive until the first salary?

    Thank you for reading this.
    Have a nice day!!!

    1. hi dear eddie
      hope ur well...
thank you dear for all ur kind words....its my pleasure to create this bubble..that isnt only for me but for everyone and whoever wants to join in :-)
congratulations on scoring etihad and lucky u that u start 2014 with a explosion of joyous beginnings...so cool to begin January with such positive stuff...as etihad...

as for the stuff etihad gave us in the starters package...of what i can remember was,,,everything for the bed,,,so u dont need to bring anything for a bed...and they even gave us towels...so i suggest not bringing that cause u can buy in abu dhabi and etihad will give u towels at the beginning..... they gave us everything in regards to kitchen tools...and the previous roomate...had everything too...so u dont need to bring anything for the kitchen...
i knew a girl who recently joined like 2 months ago and she told me she got everything......and etihad would inform u...if u needed to bring anything anyway...
yes etihad does give u some starter money....i forgot how much it was though sorry...but u will get paid the basic salary during the training which is around 800 euros i think...little bit less perhaps...but around this figure....than on top of this they will give u some pocket money/meal money too..like welcome money ect..i dont remember how much this was though... no this wont be deducted from ur salary....
the training which is 7 weeks...u get that 800 euros...i think..than u start flying....after 1 month of flying u get ur first salary....the salary is around 1400euros to 2200 euros depending on ur roster...and where u fly ect..and the currency in each country ect...but 100% ur salary will be between 1400euros to 2200 euros.......
the $500 pocket money ur planning to bring with u will be ok...cause u wont do much anyway..u will be busy with training...go home and study..and sleep and go to training again..so these money will be good to spend on food, entertainment perhaps...everything for ur room they will take care of....
u bring toiletries for urself...and ur clothes during the training...and thats about it i guess....

to and from the training u guys will be given free transportation too...so u dont need to think of that...
the starter money/meal money they will give u...they will give u this in the first week too....
      so ur good to go!!!
wish u all the best dear and if u have any more questions let me know....have a great night
take care and congrats again for etihad!!

Thanks sooo much for your reply, it's so cool to be able to speak to someone from across the globe who has real life experience as an etihad cabin crew. I really really am passionate about getting this job, I currently work with people now in the customer service industry and I worked with kids in a creche' , so i LOVE people all ages & cultures. I am married but something was stirred in my heart to apply for this position and if I get the job I know it is going to be difficult at first but my husband is willing to re-locate to Abu Dhabi and having his support has made it that much easier :). I just had one more question, I have been doing a lot of research on how the assessment process goes etc, My friends have offered to role play with me to give me confidence in that type of situation, other than this I think I know what to expect, do you think it is ok to stop researching now and to just enjoy the day on the 6th Jan, sometimes I feel like it stresses me out a bit more if I research too much, hee hee :) Thanks for your help xxx

    3. hello dear sophia....hope ur well
and ur welcome dear...its my pleasure to give some input or anything i have....im doing something i wish had before i joined etihad...some tips or insight from someone who worked in etihad...which i never had..there was no one who helped me or gave me any piece of info so that was scary to me heheheeh so i feel now that i no longer work with etihad im free to share these information with whoever that wants that piece of info hehehee...its kind of comforting to get some ideas...or a picture of how things is from someone who were from the inside.....
i love the fact ur passionate about this job...its people like u with a burning desire for this job that should get a chance to get this job....
regarding the fact u are married...there are tons of crew who are married and working with etihad...and emirates....they make it work..if love is real/genuinely couples will make it work regardless miles between them... but ur husband is willing to relocate to abu dhabi so thats awesome....lovely to see someone supporting there wives dreams....
regarding the married/single status before joining.....i have heard they prefer hiring single candidates cause they would stay longer in the company and not resign because of families ect....thats why they prefer single candidates....thats why i suggest people to not write that they are married....while there are tons of crew being married but the company doesnt necessary have to know about this private detail...example i had batchmates in my batch...who were married but never wrote that in ther application ect... i dont know anyone personally who wrote on their application that they were married and got the job...so u will be the first dear sophia...so u will let me know how this goes ok.....
although perhaps the rules/regulations now have changed and they are ok with married candidates joining the company.....so u update me about this ok... times/things does change so who knows....
but yes be prepared that they would ask you during your interview how you will handle being away from your husband ect....cause perhaps they would think candidates wont be able to handle this and resign quickly ect......
what i would say if i were you if they asked me,,,would be something along these lines of, ´´´my husband is in the process of being hired by a company in dubai so we both are trying to relocate and achieve our goals´´
that would be a good answer to say perhaps......
Yes sophia i totally agree with u i think by now you have done everything you could have and being prepared with every questions and all of that....and i believe sometimes being too prepared wouldnt be good..it would add unnecessary pressure and stress perhaps....so if u feel u have done everything u can in terms of preparation...just enjoy ur time now and relax...until 6th of January
funny with me...before i became successful with etihad...i already had done 4 emirates assessments and 1 emirates final interview and several other airlines..and i had prepared soooo much to the max...even over the top...than when i had my etihad assessment i told myself ´´who cares´´ whatever happens happens...so i didnt study much or prepared anything actually...i felt this is IT....either i get this or not....so i just relaxed and didnt think too much about this...and got up , got dresses, did it, and came home.....and its funny how that 1st time i didnt study or prepared enough i became successful.....the opposite of how i did things with emirates or other airlines previously.....
although little preparation is ok i think...too much is perhaps too much,.....
so enjoy the Christmas time and new year and open the door to 2014 with a smile....have a lovely sunday dear
      take care....xxx

I just read something you wrote about Etihad not hiring married people, when i researched and asked Emirates they said that this would have no affect on hiring you or not. 34. Dear Cabincrewdreamer!

I'm so delighted to find your blog post! It's such useful and helpful! You do huge work, dedicate your time. I want to thank you sooo much! :)

My name is Aiya and I'm from central Asia. I have a good education, I have 6 years experience as an Accountant in an international Oil & Gas company. But I never enjoyed my job. I like travelling sooo much and I'm in love with UAE! I travel a lot and spend almost all my money on travels. Last time I was in Dubai for the New Year. I met a guy who works in the training agency and he asked me "why don't you try to apply for a cabin crew if you like travelling and your look, height, figure everything is good for that?" Then I applied online for Etihad and they immediately invited for the AD.

I'm doubting so much: I love travelling, I want to live in UAE but on the other hand I've never worked in the service field, can I work with passengers as I've never used to give service to anyone before. And I also feel shy when a lot of people looking at me. Could you please suggest and advice whether should I book an AD and do it once rather than regretting?

The second question is about an Assessment itself. I noticed it takes whole day- from 8 a.m. till 6 p.m., so how will be the procedure??? What will they ask? Is there any team tasks? And if you're successful when they will tell the answers? If I travel there for 2 days for the AD will it be enough?

One more question is about day offs, normal people have 2 days weekends, so how do cabin crew have rest??

I'm so sorry for too many questions, but I noticed nobody asked them so this is also very important for me to know.

Thank you in advance and may God will bless you and all your dreams come true.

    Hugs,
    A.

    1. hi lovely aiya!
      hope ur well
i love ur name by the way...such a pretty name....aiya....
thank u dear for all ur kind words and welcome to this blog...im glad u find the posts informative....
thats sooo cool u got invited for etihad....must be so exciting and thrilling...cause thats one step towards something big....and u get to fly all over the world..travelling which ur passionate about...
100% of course u should book a slot and do this assessment...dont loose a good opportunity....i have flown with many crew in etihad who didnt have much experience in customer service oriented jobs still they got this job...and got used to this and adapted...
u know us humans we adapt so easily to anything....we are bound to get used to the new environment we get to...there is no doubt in me thinking u wouldnt fit with this job....
even if u never worked in customer service oriented jobs, u dealt with clients before i bet...u dealt with people before...in ur previous or current jobs....ur educated and i bet ur smart enough to know what to do when the time comes....
as for being shy....i have had friends in etihad who started with me, but at first they were shy and not confident about doing this job...than 6 months later they grew and learned and become more secure in themselves...and got used to dealing with everything and everyone....this job as cabin crew it forces u to handle everything...it forces u to do things ur not used to..than next time u do this again u wont think twice as u got used to this.....u will get used to 100 people looking at u.....at the end u wont even notice people looking at u cause this is a part of ur job....
having fears/doubts about something new can be scary...but this is natural as this is new for u....but we need to jump outside our comfort zone to learn new things...take risks...
i promise u...u will do great and grow and gain so much being a cc....even if ur having doubts....
i have friends and flown with crew who didnt know much about this job...as was sooo shy...now im impressed by how they are...how they improved.....seriously i believe anyone can do this....as long as they dont give up! and do it....this will teach u to become even more stronger.....

so go for it...u wont loose anything....do it for the passion of ur traveling.....to me being a etihad cc was THE BEST thing i ever done in my life...up to this date.....
as for how the assessment is: u can read more in this page:

      http://cabincrewdreamer.blogspot.se/2012/03/etihad-airways-recruitment-process.html

to read more about informative stuff check this link:

      http://cabincrewdreamer.blogspot.se/2013/04/summery-for-newbie-cabin-crews.html

if ur successful that day.....i think the process will take after the final interview 1-2 months to join the company......
      read this link too:

      http://cabincrewdreamer.blogspot.ca/2014/02/i-answered-your-questions-related-to.html

the whole assessment is usually 1 day...so 1 day flying there....2nd day to do the assessment....than the next day u fly home....so 2 nights would be enough....ex friday u fly ...saturday u do the assessment...sunday u fly home...as its best to give the flying hours 1 day....in case of delays ect......
as for days off for the roster ect....its very different from roster to roster... i think u should have 12 days off a month...than those 12 days doesnt look the same as people with normal jobs ect.....

i have some informative e-books for u to read if u want...just send me ur email address i can email them to u...or u can write to me via that contact me form....so i get ur address there so i can send them to u if u want.....
but 100% dont loose this opportunity and dont let ur fears/doubts of whatever stop u! cause this is when u will grow and develop!!!!
wishing u all the best and good luck.....
sending u light love happiness ur way

  36. Hi there,
I'm so glad I found your blog, so helpful!

    A few questions:
I have stretch marks on the back of my knees and on my upper arms, going down almost to my elbows. I was wondering, does Etihad uniform shirt go down to your elbow or so? Because I've seen Emirates only has short sleeved shirts.
Do I even have any chance? Should I declare it? I don't think using body makeup would help much, even if they aren't really visible..

And is the English test very difficult? Possible to pass without being fluent in it?

    Thank you in advance :)

    1. hi sweety welcome to this bubble of ours....:-) of dreams hope and wishes :-)
as for ur stretch marks....i have them too, on the back of my knees, i had them when i applied to etihad as well.....the thing is i put some makeup on it...than we have to wear stockings on our assessment so it was easy to hide this....so i suggest u do the same....
having make up on and having stockings on makes a difference.....
when ur working on board u have stockings on too....so its easy to cover...so dont worry about the stretching on the back of ur knees....
here u can see how the etihad on board shirt look like:

      http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/dXwrjEuDPfc/hqdefault.jpg

      http://www.airteamimages.com/pics/178/178480_big.jpg

and to be honest i dont think anyone will see ur stretching on ur upper arm, even if it goes to ur elbows....if its not that visible than dont worry about this....
myself i have these very dry elbows and sometimes it gets white but i didnt care much about it....not often did i put cream on it either...
      no one said anything either....
and if i were u, no i would not declare these...its not necessary i believe....but u do how you feel!
as for the english test, it was actually very basic and eng isnt even my 1st language, as long as u can hold a conversation and write that people understand u, and if u had passed ur grades in english in school u will be fine...now when u wrote to me above i think ur eng is perfect.......
the eng test wasnt advanced or anything it was a very basic eng test....
so i bet u will be rock it!!!
wishing u all the best and good luck on ur future assessments!!!
      have a lovely day

  37. Hi CCD, good to know that you always have a time replying each question. Im from Indonesia but live in Melbourne, i did my FI in Melbourne 12 Feb 2014 and got my succesful email 5 days after. Im so scared i will failed eventho i passed my FI as they knew im a married woman but my hubby fully supported about this. Funny thing eventho i stated clearly im married, they never asked me about that in my FI. In ur time with Etihad, have you ever seen indonesian cabin crew? As i know they never done AD in my country. I really want this job not only for my own dream but also to give a chance for my parents to travel too as we never have money to travel. I can imagine my dad smiling for his first step in airplane. Wish me luck and i wish i can see you face to face just to say thank you for helping me n other cc wannabe

congrats on scoring ur final interview with etihad...cause scoring a spot with the finals is amazing......
than u got that successful email which is awesome.....well done...another jigsaw to complete ur puzzle...
it is truly like each stage in this process is a jigsaw putting into place...to be able to complete the full puzzle......
so be happy u scored every jigsaw so far
but having fears/doubts is natural cause we are humans....
so dont worry about those emotions ur feeling cause ur only human.....and this is a BIG step for u....of course those emotions will follow us....
about etihad having Indonesian crew, etihad have all kinds of nationalities....
i dont remember personally if i worked with Indonesian or not, but my memory isnt always so good....but of course etihad has Indonesian crew....perhaps they arnt many....
u mention that etihad never done assessment in Indonesia, but i bet many people who are Indonesian but with other passports would attend in other countries...
but never give up on ur dream and i hope u can come back and tell me I GOT THE GOLDEN CALL
cause u already got the successful email, the % of people getting rejected after this is very slim...this means u soon will get ur golden call...
so be happy and dont let worry and fear and doubt take u over.....cause we would go insane if we would be worried...
of course we cant help being worried....

  38. thank you SO much for your lovely contributions!! you've taken so much of your time out to help others. you are such a blessing! :-)

since birth, i have had a beauty mark on my face. it is usually not noticeable unless pointed out. do you think this will hurt my chances to be cabin crew? if it's a problem with the airline i can remove it. did you ever see any cabin crew with this kind of thing?

    thanks!!!

and thank You for ur kindness...
regarding ur birthmark on ur face, u say its not usually noticeable unless someone point this out....than i doubt it will be a problem if its not that visible...i have this scar on my eyebrow and during my etihad ad i forgot to cover it with black pen or something and its visible....still they didnt say anything and i got the job.....so i bet this birth mark of urs will be alright too....u can always cover things with makeup as well....
so i wouldnt worry if i was u...
good luck and have a lovely morning/night regardless wherever u are in this world....
      god bless u

    2. Hi again. :-) I am male so covering with makeup is not so easy. The beauty mark is visible if you're looking for something. Maybe the recruiters look for these things. Right now I am trying to get rid of it naturally with honey. Hopefully it will work! Thank you! You have a great day or night too!! God bless you! :-)

    3. good luck dear and if u have the chance to get rid of it do it...if not its alright..the recruiters arnt that picky though...we are humans and its ok to have this or that in our face....have a lovely week dear blessings ur way xx

  39. Hello dear cabincrewdreamer!
You are so nice that you are giving us aooo much informations!
    I have some questions too.
I have breast implants and I am wondering is it some cind of problem for Etihad rools?
I wanted to apply for Emirates.OD also. Can you tell me which company is better(benefits, salary, life style)and little bit about living in Abu Dabi

    1. hi dear
      hope ur doing well
about u having breast implants, i know crew who works and have breast implants, i have never heard of any having them and they got rejected or sent home, or that there was any issues....i doubt it would be any issue as long as the breast implants/size is proportional to your body..and they arnt too big that the doctors would notice or be suspicious ect......i dont even remember if any doctor asked me about this....but they might if they see someone's breasts arnt proportional to their bodies..but i dont think u should be worried about this...as long as no one asks u should never tell....
      as for etihad/emirates
well there is not much difference between etihad and emirates...both companies are good to be honest....i have few friends who works for emirates and we exchanged ideas ect...the salary is similar....etihad have 10 id tickets they can give to 10 friends...emirates dont have this....etihad have longer layover hours on their destinations while emirates only have 24hrs..on most of them....dubai is a party place for singles ect...abu dhabi is a more calm city for families....yet u can always go to dubai on ur days off...so u can mix those two cities...thats what we did....
both cities...are great....perhaps abu dhabi is little bit more strict but not much...
living in abu dhabi i enjoyed it a lot...i have been traveling a lot in my life before i joined etihad so to me new cultures and new lifestyles is ok and i love changes in life so for me it wasnt a big issue or a cultural shock ect.....i totally loved abu dhabi..its a charming city...we used to take the bus to dubai when me and my friends was off...which was 1h 20min from abu dhabi with bus....so u have a lot to do...of course it can get boring to...but as soon as u get bored u fly away anyway....so u might not have much time to be bored.....ur flying a lot....
its a exciting lifestyle...u have a lot of discount around in abu dhabi and dubai....example if u like to party, there is ladies nights everywhere in abu dhabi which is free drinks for crew....crew have a lot of benefits.....in beauty saloons ect.....movie theaters....shops...a lots of discounts....the accommodation is very fresh and new and comfy....the salary is approx 1400euros to 2200 euros a month in etihad..depending on ur roster.....i used to save half of the salary and spend half......so its a exciting lifestyle......u stay at 5 start hotels around the world.....you get to travel....places people save money to go visit only once a year.....lol....so its a once in a lifetime experience....
something that i think everyone should try if they are into aviation..............

i hope i could answer ur questions...

  41. Hey, thanks for all the cool info :)

I just have a couple of questions, Idk if they were mentioned above, I didn't find them, so I hope you don't mind me asking.

    1. Is it really that much money? I found on some website that the pay during training is around $500 I think and that within the first few months of flying you get a max of $1400?

2.I know you get 30 day leave, but how soon can you use your vacation time, after how many months of flying? Is there a min/max on how many days you can use at once? How much before your vacation do you notify Etihad that you wanna take a break (like 2 weeks for example)?

    3. If you were to quit before the end of your contract how much would you have to give back to them? Is there a difference if you quit in the first, second or third year of the contract?

    4. How much time do you spend on the destination you travel to in the first 6 months and how much time later? Do you actually have time to see anything in the first 6 months?

    5. These '6 months' , along with the first year...I'm wondering how is it calculated, does the first year include the weeks of training or is it counted when you actually start flying?

    6. What happens if you get sick? Do they send you back to Abu Dhabi and get you treated or do you have to do it yourself?

    7. Funny question, what would happen if for example, you were cabin crew and on the plane was a friend or relative of yours, do you act professional or can you chit-chat a bit lol?

I think I got carried away, but thank you in advance for all the help, you're awesome :)

let me see if i can answer ur questions....

      1. Is it really that much money? I found on some website that the pay during training is around $500 I think and that within the first few months of flying you get a max of $1400?
Yes it is dear, but once u started flying, cause thats how much i got each month, and remember it depends on ur roster too.....during the training i think u only get the basic salary, not more....

2.I know you get 30 day leave, but how soon can you use your vacation time, after how many months of flying? Is there a min/max on how many days you can use at once? How much before your vacation do you notify Etihad that you wanna take a break (like 2 weeks for example)?

we have 30 days of leave, and you can divide these days into weeks too, ex me i took 10 days/ 3 times that year....the first 10 days i took after 3 months when i joined etihad....but etihad only give u 1 free ticket back home...there is this system, where u urself put in ur vacation days, and u get that approved ect....

      3. If you were to quit before the end of your contract how much would you have to give back to them? Is there a difference if you quit in the first, second or third year of the contract?

i think if u quit before the 6 months is finished...before ur probation time...than u have to pay some amount of money...this amount of money i dont know dear....but if u resign after 6 months u dont need to pay anything, etihad also give u a free plane ticket back home....i resigned after 1 year, no issues in that ect.....

      Delete
    2. 4. How much time do you spend on the destination you travel to in the first 6 months and how much time later? Do you actually have time to see anything in the first 6 months?
as soon as u get ur wings and finish training ur one of the team and ur roster doesnt look any different to anyone, u have the same roster as the folks who been in the company years and years...so ur layover hours depends on the roster u get....doesnt matter if u been in the company 3 months or 5 years....so it depends on where u go to...ex in london they have 16hours layover, 42 hours layover and something else too which i forgot now...in sidney we had 42 hours layover, 72hours ect ect....so it all depends on where u fly to.....but ex in kuwait there is no layover as its such a short flight 40min...ect.....

      5. These '6 months' , along with the first year...I'm wondering how is it calculated, does the first year include the weeks of training or is it counted when you actually start flying?
ur contract starts along with ur date of join...the date of join they give u is when u start....so thats when the time starts counting.....so its just about when u enter the country so to speak....+1 day or - 1 day ect.....

      6. What happens if you get sick? Do they send you back to Abu Dhabi and get you treated or do you have to do it yourself?
if u get sick outstation, than u have this medical insurance, etihad is connected to some kind of medical care in each country ect, so they give u this phone number to call ect....so they will take care of u, than when ur better u fly back to abu dhabi, if ur well enough to fly back, u can fly back on the same plane to abu dhabi but u wont be working, ect.....

      7. Funny question, what would happen if for example, you were cabin crew and on the plane was a friend or relative of yours, do you act professional or can you chit-chat a bit lol?
100% u have to be professional in regards to do ur work ect, but than when u have done ur work and ur on ur break u can go talk to ur friends and family, but as long as ur professional and know when to do ur work and when to talk with ur friends family...its ok to go talk with those u know ect......ex after the service the crew might have some down time, u have freedom to go and talk with whoever u like.......
i think these was all ur questions, if u have more no worries send them over....also check this link i posted before:

    3. Thank you, thank you, thank you soooo much :)
I just have to ask you for the application thing, in the medical it says 'Visual defects/eye conditions (including color blindness)' so what should I do since I'm nearsighted and wear contacts? Does it refer to that too or just some more serious eye conditions? They're surely gonna spot contacts on the eye exam, right?

And the vaccination form, I know I don't have to bring it to the AD, right? I can just leave it blank. But I have to bring it to Abu Dhabi if I pass?

      Thanks again a million :)

      Delete
    4. no worries dear...just happy to help/give tips if i can :-)
as for wearing contacts ect, a lot of crew wear contacts on board...so thats not a issue as long as i think u have to have some kind of % regarding the eye sight..the eye correction..myself dont wear glasses/contacts so i dont know much about this, but for sure crew have glasses and contacts while on duty .....
BUT here is this document which u can read that emirates give to crew before they join, the pre-employment medical form....

      http://www.docdroid.net/a3x0/pre-employment-medical-examination-form-for-cabin-crew-only.pdf.html

i think they mention in this document about eye sight ect....so u can have a look here....and see whats approved and whats not.....
because etihad and emirates is under the same government ect, the rules are pretty much the same....

the vaccination form: bring it with u to the ad, but dont fill it yet, in case they give u guys info on that day, but u will bring that to abu dhabi once u pass.....i think u guys only have to fill in the medical form u guys got, to the assessment and hand that in.....im not 100% sure now...but bring the papers with u.....

if u come up with any other questions, visit again :-)
      take care dear xxx

  42. Hey there.

I really love your blog and all the information that you have provided. As a prospective cabin crew I had some quick questions which I hope you don't get offended by. The reason I'm asking is because I'm new to this cabin crew culture and not familiar with some stuff.............. so here goes.

    1) Is it easy having a family and still being a cabin crew member? I heard most people are either single or divorced due to the demands of the job.

    2) How easy is it to date and potentially get into a relationship with someone. I know the UAE is strict with these things so just wondering what you have seen based on your experiences.

    3) I understand that the work hard and then party harder is common for cabin crew. Does everyone partake in these social events or are there some members that choose to opt out of these things due to their cultural/religious issues.

    4) Are cabin crew hookups common? I know it maybe difficult at times to meet someone due to the demands of the job so just wondering how prevailing this was at Etihad? I know this is common at some airlines. I would assume the ramifications of getting caught would be steep, but wondering if you could shed light on this topic. Do people just avoid such interactions completely or do they wait till they fly out to a different country?

    5) Does Etihad explicitly say to avoid such interactions during their training or have an expectation that the crew will abide to the the local cultures and customs?

Given that I am fairly liberal and outgoing person, I just wanted to know how much I would have to adjust my behaviours.

I appreciate all your help :)

    1. hi dear hope ur well....
no worries i dont mind answering any questions u have........so let me see if i can answer the questions u have:::::::

      1) Is it easy having a family and still being a cabin crew member? I heard most people are either single or divorced due to the demands of the job.

its doable, i know crew who have families living with them in abu dhabi...i even know crew who have fiance or husbands even children in their own home countries and still they do work for etihad and live in abu dhabi..but go visit their families on days off, or vacation days ect.....its very difficult though to have a family while being a crew....BUT its much easier to work as crew if ex ur bf/gf or husband/wife would live in the same country, if he/she would find a job in abu dhabi....i know few crew who had their bf/gf´s coming to abu dhabi because they found a job there.....its doable.....but i would say the higher % of crew are single.....

      2) How easy is it to date and potentially get into a relationship with someone. I know the UAE is strict with these things so just wondering what you have seen based on your experiences.

its soooo easy to date and find gf/bf´s....oh my god its easy.....but most often its for fun.....its very easy to find dates and going out with folks....but to find someone who are serious THATS a different question....because in uae the image people have in their minds about cabin crew are that THEY ARE FUN TO BE WITH....but of course i know crew who have found their soulmates in abu dhabi...found their mates.and even got married.....so yes u can find ur future husband/wife even being crew.....in abu dhabi or dubai.....

      3) I understand that the work hard and then party harder is common for cabin crew. Does everyone partake in these social events or are there some members that choose to opt out of these things due to their cultural/religious issues.

everyone do what they feel for it..there are crew who party a lot...and thats their point of entertainment..then there are those who have other hobbies or entertainment...so not everyone do party all the time.....u have a free will to do whatever u want.....and no not everyone party.....

      Delete

    2. cabin crew hookups, it happens, but not that much that people would think...cause majority of the crew are female...but i have to add that people do socialize with boys/girls..on their free time....in the country....they do go out...on dates....go out to party together....abu dhabi/dubai is like every other city in the world when it comes to couples...but the difference here is people dont show it so openly in public....ex making out or kissing in public people dont do that in abu dhabi....because of the religion and the respect for the culture in the country....but of course people have bf/ and gf in abu dhabi...or dubai....and have fun and enjoy life ect.......

      5) Does Etihad explicitly say to avoid such interactions during their training or have an expectation that the crew will abide to the the local cultures and customs?

no etihad dont say that during the training DO NOT DATE..but they do tell u and inform u that u have to respect the country tradition and culture that not to openly ex kiss or make out or something like that in public...and to dress modestly ex when out in public ect ect....in the training they will inform u about the country culture and customs ect....yes.....but of course u can live and enjoy life.......and be social and go to parties ect ect.......

i understand u want to know whats going on and how things are ect...

      check this fb page:

      https://www.facebook.com/EightAbuDhabi

this is a club called eight in abu dhabi...a lot of crew go there....all crew most often have discount in that club...ect......the pics u see is how people dress and can enjoy life and people enjoy life to the fullest...its a club well known in the cabin crew community
i hope my answers could give u a picture of how it is...and hope it helped....wish u a lovely sunday...take care

  43. Hi! I really love your blog

So I was just wondering what the average lifespan of a crew member is. In terms of how many years do they decide to do this before moving on to something else.

Are they able to move up to other positions or are they stuck being a crew member forever? If they are able to move up what sort of positions are available.

What would you say is the typical age of a crew member on board? Does etihad try to maintain a young cabin crew and let the older ones go?

Do you find it that once a cabin crew gets into a serious longterm relationship that they end up leaving the job and moving on with life?

    Thanks!

    1. hi dear
      hope ur doing well....
well in regards to how long the crew would stay in the company...it all depends on the person really...
but ex in my batch, we were 12 people who started...with etihad....
80% of my batchmates are still in the company 3 years later now...
most people stay at least 1 year...
i think either people leave after 1 year or if they do want to remain more than 1 year they will push it to 3 years....there are crew who still is with the company 5 years ect..but they arnt many.....

in etihad&emirates 100% u have the amazing chance to work with other stuff and get promotion...ex after 2 years u can work in business class&first class, than i think u can later become a cabin senior and cabin manager....than if ur not happy there u can work at the office ect...
there are always opportunities within these companies.....
the possibilities of moving around in different departments or getting a promotion is way faster...than any other jobs in my opinion....

during the time i worked with etihad i saw a lot of crew who were 25-30 years old....i think it goes in waves....
but i would say perhaps most are between 23-30 years old....that is what i observed and think of today.....

but with etihad 100% they dont mind the age...not like emirates...emirates perhaps are more fixated with age...but etihad hire 30+ crew as well
in my batch when i started we had 3 people who were 30+
the oldest i worked with onboard was 36 years old...

i know crew that are in serious relationships and still working as crew...i even know married crew who still works at crew.....even crew who have kids who work with etihad........but i guess its more common that crew would leave the job when the relationship would get serious, ex they were getting married or something ect.....

      take care...have a nice day xxx :-)

How many people per apartment and do you get your own room or is that shared too?
Are the males and females separated?
Do you get assigned who to stay with or can you choose who you want to be your housemates?

    1. hi

yes the crew accommodation are very modern fresh spacious apartments...shared with either 1 or 2 other flatmate's, with the same gender as u...
everyone get their own rooms, bathrooms....but u guys share the same kitchen and living room....
both female and male can live in one building thats ok,,,,but u can only live with the same gender as urself in ur flat...so yes males and females are separated...
u can watch 2 clip of how 2 of the accommodations looks like:

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cywtHEKxXYg

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvTFTR8p7HY

the standard and the way it looks like inside is almost the same...in each building ect....but some stuff and the surroundings might change in each area u live in ect....
usually when u join etihad u dont get to chose who u want to live with, they just assign u with someone...but after 6 months once ur probation period is finished u can request to move or move into with a friend u know or whatever....but at first u dont have a choice :-)

  46. Hello there CabinCrewDreamer,

I am very glad that I found your blog. It is really helpful. Thank you very much for creating this blog, you have inspired me so much. I am attending an AD soon. I am quite nervous and excited.

I have one question that has been bothering me though, is the medical test very strict? My Hemoglobin count is usually below normal since I have alpha thalassemia trait, but all the doctors that I have consulted said I am fit to work since it is only a trait and I have no manifestations of the condition whatsoever. My only concern is if they are very strict with the blood test? Was there any incident that a even though he/she is already in training and then after medical something is wrong got sent home???

    Thank you very much!!!

    1. hi dear hope all is well with u :-)
congrats on scoring the ad by the way....fingers crossed u will make it :-)

regarding the medical exam..it depends on what it is....with blood issues or visible tattoos they will be strict and send people home which i have seen....
but i also know folks who had some kind of health issues that stopped them from flying.......but etihad put them on ground and they could take medication to fix the issues...and they gave them a 3 month time limit to fix this....if it would be fixed after 3 months they would be able to fly...if not they would fly home.........so it all depends on what it is.....i dont have much info about hemoglobin ect.....so i cant answer how etihad will respond to this....or what they will find or say ect.....dont know if etihad send u guys that are going to ads this ´´etihad Pre-employment medical declaration form

      but check these pdfs:

      http://www.viewdocsonline.com/document/jq3nps

      http://view.samurajdata.se/psview.php?id=44af12e3&page=1

both are pre-employment medical examination forms for ek and ey.....so have a look and see if they do mention anything about hemoglobin...so u get a pic of how it can be or get some info from these....ex whats acceptable or whats not ect....

usually etihad wont fire or send home people easily cause etihad paid so much money for each candidate to enter the country and work there so they wont easily fire folks....i heard the working visa for abu dhabi is around 2000euros...lol....so it has to be something very big for them to fire folks....
ex in my batch they sent home 2 candidates, 1 had some blood issue which they couldnt fix,, the other had a wrist tattoo which she hide and was visible ect...
but if ur doctor told u,, that there is no worries and ur good to go, than thats great, u dont need to worry :-)
i hope this helps...wish u all the best dear and good luck on ur ad....
      take care xxx

  47. Hello. Thanks for giving a wonderful insight to the life of a cabin crew with Etihad.

I just wanted to know how you end up forming friends given that you always have a different group of crew to work with for every flight. Is it not difficult given that you all have different flights and different destinations? On average how many days would you be working and how many days would you have off on a monthly basis?

    Cheers!

    1. hi dear...
i thought the same as u do, before i became a cabin crew....about how to make friends...when ur often flying....
but what i noticed is most people find their good friends during the initial training, in their batches....those are the folks u will be with for 7 weeks..and hopefully u find good friends there....i found my very best friend in my batch and mostly i was with her and few others from my batch.....
than sometimes u meet wonderful crew and u form very good bond with some of them there too.....but i would say the friends i found during my etihad, was those who were in my batch and just very few friends i found from the crew i worked with.....
u will notice how close u will be with the crew u will work with....u guys will become a family...even if its for a single flight....
ex u get to know a crew...than during the layover u guys might go sightseeing with that crew...than in that way friendships can grow too....
      as for the rosters....
it varies from month to month...one month i could have only layovers and many days off...one month i could have a lot of turnarounds than it would feel like ur working a lot...but i think the minimum off days a crew can have is 12 days.....12 days off a month...but sometimes u would have loads of days off too....lets say u have a melbourne flight...with these flights...u always have 2 days off before and 2 days off after...because of the flight hours u work....
so it all depends on roster ect...this job is full time....u will be flying a lot but always have 12 days off a month......
hope this helped to give u a pic of how it is :-)
      wishing u a lovely night....
      good night

  49. Hey quick question. When you are on layovers after a flight, do they give you the allowances for that stopover in that country's currency? During these stopovers are you free to do as you choose or are there restrictions in terms of what you can be doing. Also when you leave the company, I know they give a certain compensation for being with the company. Do you know how much they give you for that?

    Appreciate the help!

    1. hiii

as for the layover allowance, in etihad its actually in the salary u get each month...in emirates u get the layover allowance in ur hands in cash in every place u go....as for what currency they go after, i forgot dear, dont know.... :-) but in emirates the layover allowance is in the currency of the country of the layover...so if ek is like this i bet etihad is like this too....
ur free to do whatever u want during ur layovers....but they do tell u to inform the captain and the cabin manager if u ex are going out of town for couple of hours in any layover u go to...ex if u fly to London and u want to go to Birmingham u need to inform them....for security reasons....
but usually i assume not many crew do inform...ex me i didnt inform them ....i did go to Birmingham once ...when i had a 36 hours layover in london..i took the train to Birmingham to visit cousins....than came back the next day :-)
but yeah u can do whatever u want...but in responsible ways of course...
i forgot the amount they give u after being in the company 3 years,
but i think u get 1 months of salary + something else......

  52. Hii
    100% this is accurate
I had ex qatar coworkers in etihad who told me that etihad and emirates is way better
But even if the salary in ey/ek is better
Qatar isnt far away from that salary either,
Although the working conditions is pretty much the same in all airlines but qatar is way stricter though
Even if ey:ek is strict too

  53. Hi there! I'm grateful for the in depth information you have provided here for prospective cabin crew. When you are on a layover in a different country and returning back to Abu Dhabi, is there a pre-flight briefing you have to undergo during that flight. Like is there a briefing room you go to at that respective airport regarding your cabin position or the one safety question you have to answer or is that just done during the inbound flight out of abu dhabi. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete

    1. Hi dear!
      Hope ur good!
      regaring pre-flight briefing outstations...
we dont do it like we did on our way to that layover..not in that exact way....
It actually depends on the cabin manager if we do this outstation or not....if we do it,,,,,, we have some kind of a small meeting either at the bus on our way to the airport to the aircraft, or onboard the aircraft...like a very small pre-flight meeting so to speak outstations...it might be 3 min or something, very short....sometimes we dont do it at all....it all depends on the cabin manager as i mentioned....
if the cabin managers ask us 1 safety/security question outstation or not...this actually is up to each cabin manager to decide...some do it some dont....outstations are a bit relaxed when it comes to pre-flight briefing...

  54. Hey! Hope things are well with you. Do you know on average how many long and short flights you are assigned every month? Are you ever assigned just long or short flights and whether you have a say as to where you want to fly? Would it be just better to have 3-4 long flights every month and relax the rest of the days as opposed to frequent short flights?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. hello thank u im good hope all is well with u :-)
regarding the roster...there is no specific roster you get with etihad...each month is unique..one month u can perhaps have 2 layovers and all turnarounds...one month u might have 50-50, a mix of short and long flights...and one month u might only have all layovers...
here u can see a example of how a etihad roster looks like:

      http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-c9OaLvn9O0w/UGn4ge3pGlI/AAAAAAAACFo/7G3JTo1inuk/s640/483224_397821780273309_1283590799_n.jpg

everyone are equal in the sense of how the roster will look like, doesnt matter if u been in the company 5 years or 4 months....
so it changes each month, u can never predict how ur roster will look like
u might request days off or request 1 certain flight..and if they give u this, than u know ur days off or that certain flight...other than this u have no idea how it will be....
but 100% its better to have more longer flights than turnarounds, cause with turnarounds aka short flights, u get tired flying here and there so often...
while with longer flights...its better for the body mind and soul i think....
but most often they do mix the roster and u will do both long and short flights....
and its doesnt matter if u just started or have been in the company 5 years ect,,,,
      :-)

    2. For the roster that you posted, can you explain why there isn't a destination listed for Monday Sept 17 and Monday Sept 24? It just lists the aircraft, AUH and a time slot but nothing else.

      Delete
    3. It's pretty amazing to see how hectic a roster can be. There is no guarantee of having weekends and the hours seem long. The schedule does seem pretty hectic with a combination of night departure flights and morning flights.....Your sleep schedule would definitely be pretty messed up lol. Lotta respect for what you all do =)

      Delete
    4. I can see why it could be difficult to meet new ppl outside the profession especially given the odd work hours. I'm assuming on the days off it would just be better to sleep and relax than to go out as well.

      Delete
    5. well regarding this roster i posted, i only posted a part of it..
so for sept 17th ur probably coming home from a flight which started 15th or 16th of sept...cause i cant see whats happening before that,...
as for monday 24th-25th ur going to Bombay, its a short flight.. i never wrote this in the roster, ...i didnt write the meaning of the complete roster only just some samples and some easy flight ect....just so u guys could get a simple picture of how it looks like....

yeah as a crew with etihad/emirates u work fulltime..., which means u will have 2 days off a week...like anyone who works fulltime....some weeks u feel ur flying nonstop...some weeks u might have easier flights ect....and yes there is no guarantees that u will have the weekends off...ur days off can be anytime.... for a crew this lifestyle is like no other.....u have no idea when weekend is for u...ur days off is ur weekend hehheheheh.....
u have no idea how ur sleeping patterns would be like...but with time u will get used to this and u will find ur own unique sleeping patterens...ex me when i would come home from a fight at 6am in the morning...i would sleep from 7am to 5pm in the afternoon....and than i would eat dinner....hehehehe i love to sleep so for me it was alright as i could sleep anytime anywhere heheheh and i could eat breakfast, lunch or dinner regardless of the hour...i could eat a whole portion of food at 5am in the morning....or 2am in the morning heheehe
this cabin crew lifestyle i wouldnt say its healthy to do for years and years...most people perhaps do this 1-3 years and move on to something else...specially with etihad and emirates.....
and as i wrote for u i would sleep until 5pm...lol, when i woke up, i would see if any of my friends would be home as well, if no one was around i would stay at home, watch movies, or do grocery shopping, if anyone was home at that time i was home....we would go out or do fun stuff.....
its 100% a weird lifestyle...we have no idea what time it is, what day it is..or anything heheehhe ur just going with the flow hehehehe but as every job in this world there is ups and downs.....
      :-) :-)

  55. Do you find that a lot of crew get caught up on maintaining images given the glitz and glamor that is present in Abu Dhabi? Like I have heard stories of crew at Singapore that spend their entire monthly income on purchasing one designer bag and such continuous behavior often leads them to acquire a lot of credit card debt. I'm wondering if this is present at Etihad and if so to what extent. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. no not at all, even if etihad is into image and all that, i didnt get the feeling when i worked there that the crew was so into their looks...of course it is up to each person to take care of their image ect...but i didnt feel that a lot of people were obsessed or did stuff that would make them end up in depts ect.....
ex me i didnt care much about that stuff...i didnt spend much on makeup/clothes ect..lol
..its not exactly like that ....like folks over Singapore.......i heard in Singapore the crew have to have some sort of xxx bmi or whatever and they only hire skinny folks ect.....this isnt how etihad do it...in etihad everyone can join......... :-)

      Delete
    2. Appreciate the insight. By the way do you know whether cabin crew own cars? It would seem that given you are constantly traveling would make it not necessary. However, what about when it comes to going out grocery shopping, movies, clubs or just hanging out, is it not more convenient than taking public transportation?

      Delete
    3. no worries dear :-) ask away :-)
about owning a car,,,,i know tons of Etihad cabin crew who bought cars when they worked with Etihad....personally i think it is unnecessary to have a car while working as crew in abu dhabi...cause ur working tons and on ur days off, its ok to use taxi or those free city shuttle buses we have from our accommodation to the city....but some crew might plan to remain in abu dhabi for years to come and they might be bored and need freedom in the sense of having a car....ect....
      re grocery shopping/ entertainment ect....
where i lived we were lucky to have this mall just around the corner of our building...so we just walked to this mall and did our grocery shopping there and whatever else it was....
if we wanted to go to the city center...i lived a bit away from the city center...
we took this free shuttle bus provided to us crew only who would drive us to and from the city center....
than there we could walk pretty much everywhere and if we needed to use a taxi, it was actually cheap to use the taxi....
if we need to go out to clubs,we just took a taxi....if we went with a bunch of friends we would just split the taxi cost so it would still be cheap....
there are crew accommodations in the city center,,,,than they have everything at hand....
i understand some would like to be free and drive their own car ect......but myself i didnt need a car....it went all fine with these free shuttles buses or taxi :-)

    4. Thanks for the info...that makes a lot of sense :) I was wondering once cabin crew have worked for 1-3 years and then transitioned into an office or ground job, how much would they be getting paid for one of these positions? Like I know you wouldn't get your travel allowance but I would assume your pay would sto;; go up given that you would have been with the company for a few years at that point.Would these be typical 9am-5pm jobs or do they still require odd work hours like cabin crew? From your experience, do most crew stick around with etihad/abu dhabi after they are done being cabin crew or do most move back to their own countries and start fresh? To me it seems it would be a waste to start again from scratch as opposed to having a decent career trajectory developing by sticking around with etihad. I appreciate your help! Thanks again =)

      Delete
    5. ground jobs with etihad doesnt pay well actually...i think it might even be half the salary the crew get...and ex the accommodations they get isnt that good in standard as it is for crew....but again it depends on what ground jobs/office job it is....ex check in agents at abu dhabi airport that doesnt pay that much.... know few crew who did that....but quit quickly after......
i just heard that kind of jobs ex customer service jobs on ground doesnt pay that much....
but if u have a higher position than that, than i bet the salary is more...
but i dont have the exact figures about those jobs unfortunate....
but i think every person who works for etihad regardless role would have travel benefits...
in general everyone who works for a airline, regardless role does benefit somehow with travel benefits ect...
i think ex ground jobs do work in shifts as well....i dont think all of those roles is 9-5 jobs...because in a airline/airport environment they work in shifts/odd hours...BUT in the etihad office yes than u would do mostly 9-5 hours.....
etihad has staff everywhere...at the airport, hotels, airplanes, academy, office ect ect....
from my personal view and the folks i know and knew who worked with etihad as cc...and when they resigned i would say most of them moved back home to their home countries....very few remain...
some might find other jobs in dubai for example...with other companies...this happens ...but its rare....
ex me, when i resigned i actually did try to find other jobs in dubai before i left to my home country but i didnt find any jobs so i flew back home...lets say if i did found any during that time...i would most probably had been working in dubai.....
      so these opportunities does exist....
but YES ur point of view is so true about sticking around with etihad....in order to get promoted ect...than go back home to start from zero...which most people do including me....
its more wise to stick around with etihad...and the company do give every the chance for promotion....so u have the chance to grow in the company ect.....so if people can stick to that direction than thats the best of course..... :-)
for whatever reason i left etihad, today i wish it was different and i had stick to the program :-)
but i guess everyone have different paths in life....and wherever life take us i guess :-)
by the way dear ´´anonymous´´ i love ur ideas/opinions and the way u think...u make me reflect...which is cool :-)
      good night :-)

yes i do believe Etihad would hire me back if i ever wanted to return......
regarding what i do now/ and questions about that :-) unfortunately i cant disclose this because of privacy reason here on this blog :-)
i know each and one of us have decisions to make if Etihad is right for them or not....but i have to say most of the folks who do decide to join them once they get successful in the recruitment process most of the people do like it....and they find it as a valuable experience in their lives....regardless how long they stay with the company :-)

But even if i question myself sometimes, im happy i left... Cause flying/ being a cc isnt my ultimate goal.. As we grow we develop new dreams.. Etihad did open a new door for me to go to the next level... Flying/ being cc is fun/ interesting for a while but than we need to move in our lives.... And i do believe things happens for a reason... That take us to a place we need to be in... But no today i have no regrets cause if i didnt leave i wouldnt have found my next dream in life... Which im working towards at.....so who know where life will take us... And what we end up doing :-)

i assume u mean the medical exam in abu dhabi, not during ur assessment..
well once u get hired and the first week of ur training u do the medical exams
u go to 2 medical centers...1 the etihad medical center and the 2nd u go to some local medical center
the local medical center there u do some blood exam ect...there u wear business attire...skirt, stockings, shirt, thats it...the usual attire..
but in the etihad medical center, they will give u a white- t-shirt..and u only wear this t-shirt + ur skirt...but no stockings...thats it......
      have a nice day

  57. Hello,
    Lovely blog!:)
I have a question about the medicals..what kind of tests are they going to do? Any unusual blood tests? For instance would they look if you have anemia or something like that?
And a second question..during assessment day/interview is it absolutely necessary to wear a skirt/dress? Is a suit that with trousers not allowed or not preferred?
    Thanks!:)

    1. hi dear hope ur well
here is a etihad pre-employment medical paper:

      http://www.htmlpublish.com/convert-pdf-to-html/success.aspx?zip=DocStorage/07eb9ecf7ac14625830cd270351a742f/etihad%20Pre-employment%20medical%20declaration%20form.zip

u can read it so u get a idea of what they will look for...and what u cant have and can have ect..in regards to the health....
during the medical exam, they take blood samples, check ur hearing, ur vision, ur height and weight, and x--rays ect...
they will check for everything which u can read in this medical paper above...
and 100% yes u have to wear a skirt on ur assessment/interview, because thats the standard attire...if u wear pants the recruiters might be suspicious and think ´´is she hiding a tattoo or scars´´ ect...also u want to look like a cabin crew right...so the recruiters can envision u being a part of etihad..so dress exactly like a cc....
good luck have a lovely day

  58. Thank you for this blog .. it is extremely useful for all those dreaming to be a cabin crew.
I myself will soon be joining etihad, and I have a few worries regarding the medical. I have 2 small scars on my ear lobe that can't be covered by makeup and a small burn mark on my finger... you think will be an issue?
I have to mention that at my FI I wasn't asked about scars or birthmarks, just about tattoos.

    1. hi dear, hope ur enjoying ur friday so far :-)
congratulations first off that u scored the etihad job well done!!!
exciting journey ahead of u indeed!
regarding ur 2 scars on ur ear lobe, obviously they arnt visible because if they were and if the recruiters on ur etihad interview or assessment had seen them or if they felt this was a no no u would not have gotten the job....so obviously they arnt visible...and u shouldn't be worried about that
myself i have a eye brow scar on, and i even forgot to cover that during my etihad assessment ect, but the recruiters didnt say anything and i didnt say anything either hehhehe
what they mean by scars i think is LARGE scars....that are massively visible ect....
so dont worry about that dear...
just enjoy ur last moment in ur home country before u head of to ur new home :-)
      take care and good luck

    1. hi dear iamiyaa
      hope ur good
at that time when i joined etihad in 2011, it was wise not to declare that u were married and they only hired single candidates
but now i think things has changed and i think they hire married candidates now
but i do believe these airline companies such as emirates/etihad prefer single candidates....
good luck and have a nice day

    1. hi dear...
      regarding your question...
what i advice you is read this ´´etihad and emirates pre-employment medical form´´
which i have uploaded for u below...:::::::

      http://www.docdroid.net/dtie/emirates-pre-employment-medical-examination-form.pdf.html

      +

      http://www.docdroid.net/dtib/etihad-pre-employment-medical-declaration-form.pdf.html

hopefully here you can find some answers...because etihad/emirates are under the same government and have pretty much the same rules when it comes health issues...and what is allowed and what is not ect....
so check these papers and see if you can find what you were wondering about.....

  63. Dear Cabincrewdreamer, thank you very much for all the time you are putting in this blog. It is probably the most comprehensive source of first-hand info on cabin crew life :)

I have a small question. On all the photos of Etihad / Emitates cabin crew girls have their hair combed back. I'm waiting for my assessment day and at the same time thinking of getting a short hair cut. Nothing too extravagant, but I won't be able to put it in a bun. Are there any rules regarding hairstyle for girls?

    Thank you,

its ok to have short hair....ex crew are allowed to have this hairstyle:

      http://www.syerasite.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Short-bob-hairstyle-6.jpg

and they dont need to put it in a bun or whatever....just have it like this...
      hair that

      this is allowed too:

      http://images.beautyriot.com/photos/olivia-munn-short-bob-wavy-black.jpg

and no need for a bun ect....
if the hair is longer than this pics above..than it has to be put up in a bun ect.....

  64. Dear cabincrewdreamer. Thank you for all your lovely posts. I'm joining etihad this year and it's been wonderfull to read your comments.

I do have some questions. Is your family allowed to stay with you in the appartment when visiting you? And what kind of benefits do cabin crew have around the city?
And how expensive is life in abu dhabi? i know there aren't a lot of public transportation so are taxis cheap?

    Thank you :)

    1. hi dear hope ur having a lovely day today
thank u for ur kind words....
and congrats for scoring the cc job with etihad and will soon join them...well done
      as for ur questions....

Is your family allowed to stay with you in the apartment when visiting you?

Female crew are allowed to have sisters/mother stay with them for 1 month....while father/brothers will count as visitors and male visitors can only stay until 1am at night....for male crew its the opposite... father/brothers are allowed to live with them for 1 month..and mothers/sisters would count as visitors......the accommodation goes after gender ect....in one building femal/male can mix...but not in the same apartment...so only female stay with female...and male with male..that goes with family members too if they will stay for 1 month....as for random visitors..anyone can come and visit u how they wish...but have to leave before 1 am at night.......
And what kind of benefits do cabin crew have around the city?
you guys can use ur etihad id card for almost anything really...u guys have discount in hotels, beauty salons, restaurants ect ect....they will give u the list of what u guys have discount in...when u join...they will even give u guys a big discount book..filled with coupons in...which u can use around in abu dhabi ect......

And how expensive is life in abu dhabi?
i know there aren't a lot of public transportation so are taxis cheap?

.....usually there are free shuttles from crew accommodation to the city center...so crew take either those crew shuttles to city center or taxi....ex when i worked in etihad i used to live 30min away from city center...but 15min from airport...but thankfully where i lived there was 2 huge malls...and small shopping places around so that was fine living there...and when we wanted to go to the city we took that free crew shuttle bus to the city........ the taxi are way cheaper than Europe for example....
u have these free shuttle bus that will take u to city center/ or training center...than u have the public transportation buses and taxi....
oh my god i think the public transportation in abu dhabi cost like less than 0,5 euro or whatever hehehe...i used public buses sometimes too....cause there was this specific bus that would take us from city center and the bus stop would be right outside my accommodation so it was easy for me to take that bus ect....
about if abu dhabi is expensive or not..... its up to each of us to shop at whatever store it is....i didnt find dubai/abu dhabi expensive because there are shops where its not so expensive...ex they have shops like Carrefour....but there are always ways to buy cheap stuff and live a standard non expensive life...........its up to each and one of peoples lifestyles......someone might want to buy a expensive milk from a expensive store...while u can find wayyy cheapppp milk in some normal standard stores ect....i come from a country in europe...so for me i felt abu dhabi was a little bit cheaper than the country i come from....the taxis are way cheap in abu dhabi than where im from .....
so its up to each person i believe....

i believe it all depends on ur lifestyle to be honest....

take care and enjoy ur summer

    3. Dear Luy...

regarding the ditching exam they have...yeah its pretty important you know how to swim...cause there will be a ditching exam during ur cabin crew training...although this ditching exam wont be about u swimming back and forth xxx amount of times.. it will be u with a life vest on and you jump in the ice cold pool....than they tell u to do various group stuff with few other of ur batchmates.. ..its about team work...and they will observe u to see how are would be able to deal with certain situations.....than they might tell u to swim to the raft...there is a raft in this pool...all while having the life vest on..then they tell u to climb up to the raft....then its multiple stuff in the raft u guys will do...while u all are sitting in the raft.....
here are 2 pics from my ditching session in etihad...its pretty much similar with emirates too:

thought i would share these pics so u get a pic of how it will be :-)

what i would advice u to do is to attend swimming classes and learn how to swim....if this is ur dream dear...than it wont be a problem for u....u will easily learn and than be able to to pass this ditching exam.... :-)

regarding ur etihad cabin crew application, everyone have equal chances on scoring this job...doesnt matter what we do or where they live ect....
i have worked with crew in etihad from all around the world...
      :-)
there are tons of Philippines crew onboard working for etihad....
i cant see a reason why u would not have a chance.. based on what u wrote to me here...

BUT the only thing im thinking of that might would stop u from being hired would be the arm tattoo u have...
check this link here and u can see what areas etihad/emirates accept tattos and doesnt accept ect:

      http://cabincrewdreamer.blogspot.se/2012/11/tattoos-emirates-etihad.html?showComment=1408026390771#c133117348681012369

i dont where this tattoo of urs is....if its on a no no places as u can see in the pic in this link... than it would stop u from getting hired....but if its on a none visible area than ur good to go....
unless ur thinking of tattoo laser removal ect.....

lets say u get invited for a assessment with etihad...and if ur tattoo on ur arm is on a visible area than i advice u to not declare ur tattoo...cause they will ask u if u have any tattoos....
if u say yes u have tattoo they will ask u WHERE it is...u have to tell them where...and if its on a visible area on ur body than they will reject u
so its up to u to declare what u feel is right for u ect :-)

than we have candidates that get successful of getting this cc job and THAN they start the tattoo laser removal...before they join etihad...
but didnt declare the tattoo during the assessment ect....
thats one thing u could do too

well when i used to work for etihad (i resigned etihad year 2012) the life and the lifestyle was truly luxurious and wonderful....when u were at home....or on layovers.....
the work as a cabin crew is truly hard work...but u manage it and do it...but then u get the chance to rest ur soul on amazing destinations in amazing 5 star hotels...on layovers.... :-)
      we had 30 days off/ year....but we could split these 30 days into 10 each....we got 1 free ticket to fly home....so i used to fly home 3 times a year....every 3 months....and as crew u have access to ´´crew swapping system/ request system´´
so u can request flights/destinations...so those who live in the destinations etihad fly to, they could request those flights and spend their layovers at home...which is pretty cool
no worries whatever questions u have let me know..if i can answer them i will,,

cause again its all about the recruiters....if my friends/coworkers could make it and their recruiters passed them even when they didnt reach...than anything is possible..... no dear i dont know how far my friends/coworkers were from the 210cm......
it depends on what aircraft it is....example on A319-320 i remember when i worked with my co workers who was around 156cm/157cm/158cm they were fine reaching to the safety equipments...perhaps some had to stand on the seats to reach for something...
but i remember on the bigger planes like A330/340/ or even the B777 they would stand on seats to find stuff in the over head lockers or stuff like this
even me im 160cm and on the larger aircrafts i had to stand on the seats to reach for stuff.....or stand on tiptoes ect....but that was fine,, no one said anything to them or me..
again its all about the recruiters....fingers crossed the recruiter who will check ur height test will be nice :-)

Your blog is amazing and helps so much! I have a question, I have a small tattoo on my wrist and it is allmost removed and allmost not visible, but I am still very afraid they will see it and send me back home. I bought very good make up to cover it up and this works really well. What do you think about my situation? In Abu dhabi I keep on going with the laser sessions until its totally gone of course... Thank you for helping us all so much! X

    1. awww thank you dear for ur kind sweet words..appreciate it..

regarding tattoos...actually i flew once with a co worker who had a wrist tattoo, im not sure if she had it done before joining or after....but the hilarious part is we had a layover together and both she and i are into tattoos, so while being in our layover we went together to some tattoo place,,,she filled her wrist tattoo with more colors and had a neck tattoo as well...i had a minor tattoo on my rib....
she told me she covers her wrist tattoo while working with a watch and make up.....the neck tattoo she had made she could cover with the scarf we have or makeup and she have some baby hair in the back of her neck so that covers it too...
im sharing this for u so u would know there is TONS of crew that have tattoos....and its ok....as long as no one knows hehehe

when i joined etihad i had tattoos and i never declared it and it was ok....
no one saw it or said anything...
as for ur wrist tattoo, if i were in ur shoes i would 100% NOT declare this....i dont know if ur in the process of joining etihad or about to attend a assessment...anyhow.....dont tell anyone about this
ur wrist tattoo is fading away as each laser treatment ur doing...and u can cover it with makeup and the watch anyway....and as u mentioned urself u will continue with laser treatment in abu dhabi...so u have nothing to worry about....
just dont tell anyone...and dont declare it.....
etihad already themselves say remove ur tattoos before joining....the visible once i mean....so ur doing just that and its almost done anyway.....
so i dont find a reason for them to send u home or they even finding out.....
but the fear ur feeling is totally natural dear....ur only human...so thats ok
      :-)
      wishing u the best
      have a great day

Are they strict about leg scars? I have a light leg scars but its not that visible unless you stare on it or should I put make up on it? because of that I'm less confident to try to apply in any airlines also I don't have 20/20 eye vision. -_- love your blog. xoxo

    1. hi dear
regarding the eye vision check this pre-employment medical form for etihad...u can read what is acceptable and whats not..

      http://www.pdfonlinereader.com/WebPdf2/editor.html

But u dont need to have perfect eye vision to join in etihad as crew, we have crew on board who wear contact lenses and glasses ect...i think they just require a certain % from the eye vision....but check the medical form out and see if u can read anything about that...
as for the leg scar, as crew u will be wearing stockings on board when u work so i doubt it will be visible...and u can always cover it with makeup too...so if i were i wouldnt worry about that...nor would i declare this ..if its not that visible....
u should not worry about that if its not a big scar ect....myself i have a eye brow scar and during the time i did the interview/assessment i didnt even cover the scar that much...and sometimes when i worked i forgot to cover the scar...and no one said anything or noticed...and my eye brow scar is visible...
i have worked with tons of crew having visible scars everywhere....as long as its not the big surgery scars ect...thats what i think etihad dont accept...
      wishing u the best dear and apply...do it 100% without a doubt...and i hope u will succeed!!!

    2. Thank you for your wonderful words of encouragement Cabincrewdreamer. :) I have leg scars but it's just small and light one and can be cover up by dermablend make up. Some of the blogs that I have read they said that you need to have a perfect complexion so I always doubt about my scars.. I'm wearing contact lense so I think it will be fine... If that's okay if you don't declare your scars/tatoo? Also is Etihad strict about having a perfect set of teeth? xoxo

    3. Your welcome dear, :-)
you know all these bits and pieces of things we can cover with makeup is nothing to be worried about....no one really have perfect complexions...i cant even remember people having 100% perfect complexions...100% i dont have perfect complexions and i got the job...but i think if we are good with makeup and stuff like this...we can cover a lot...and create the illusion ect...thats what everyone does...the crew i mean....
i have tons of friends in emirates as well and all of them have normal complexions...its just applying great makeup give us the perfect look.....its all in the makeup....
yeah a lot of folks dont declare tattoos/ scars,, if they can hide it....like me..i didnt declare none of that...as i wrote above i have a eye brow scar and i didnt declare that i even have tons of tattoos and i never declared those either...as its not visible ect.....
i have co workers that didnt declare their scars/tattoos either...
but its a choice we make personally....so if u feel this is a right choice for u to not declare it....dont...if u feel u need to do it....
but if i were u i wouldnt do it....
the reason why im saying this is sometimes these companies tend to make a small thing huge and create issues from nothing....
so its a risk in all we do....
the teeth question u had...it depends on how the teeth are....but i dont have perfect sets of teeth...like mine arnt that straight......it all depends i guess...
but tiny tiny errors here and there they dont mind....if its a huge problem and if a candidate smile and it doesnt look nice..than yeah it might be a problem...
but again it all depends on how it is with the teeth...
have a lovely weekend dear and take care

  75. Hi Cabincrewdreamer!

Thanks for a great blog! I'm so glad I stumbled onto it!!

Ok, so I have a question, let's say I pass all the etihad interviews and assessments and I'm selected as a crew member. Will I have to pay my own flight to Abu Dhabi to get there or will etihad sponsor this flight? I mean when you're going for the training.

    Thanks!
    Helen

Does Emirates recruit cabin crews over 30 years old?

If anyone is curious about their max-age, then here is the proof. Emirates' target age...
