My 3.8 Year Life As An Emirate Flight Attendant

I discovered this interesting blog post made by a ex Emirates crew and its very interesting check it out:::::

My 3.8 Year Life As An Emirate Flight Attendant

Now over! A day in the Life…

Over the past month I have been enjoying counting down my last few flights working for Emirates! There hasn’t been any sadness or regret leaving my job with Emirates, but instead the trill of thinking I can now stay on solid earth for more then a week.

I thing I mostly enjoyed during my final month was hearing the support all of the crew were preaching to me, everyone confirming that its an excellent news, good luck, congratulations and well done.

It was also nice to show crew that there is a life after a cabin crew lifestyle. Except, I didn’t tell them how much effort it was to finally find a new job. But in retrospect, the global economy is still suffering from the GFC, unemployment is up (besides Australia), and the markets are balancing on a knifes-edge for a double dip recession. So, to get a job during this time isn’t too bad I suppose.

My 3.8yrs with Emirates has been a joy and an amazing experience! I more feel that the opportunities which the Emirates lifestyle can provide to you are the major benefit about the job and not the job itself. With all of the free time which you (use to have, the times have changed with Emirates) have between flights provides you with the freedom to chose to do anything with it and with very cheap discounted staff airfare tickets, you’d be stupid not to use this special opportunity to travel. For some reason the majority of crew waste this time instead.

Unfortunately, the job description of a cabin crew isn’t as glamorous as it use to be (not like I began this job for that reason), and the work while on the aircraft becomes very repetitive, fast! I am pleased to be leaving the company of Emirates now as I feel that the employee working condition standards have been dropping continuously as the airline has finally seen the financial advantages of cost cutting since the GFC (Global Financial Crisis). But this is not good for the poor employees.

I feel like I have grown and developed personally and professionally from the international exposure of traveling around the globe experiencing hundreds of different cultures, meeting thousands of new people (over 100 different nationalities of cabin crew, international passengers, and all sorts of people on my adventure holiday travels).

For the first few years it was all about seeing and exploring as many different countries, world wonders, and unknown places as possible. But I feel that over my last 1.5yrs with Emirates, my interests of travel changed to learning more about the world economy, trade, doing business in different countries, business opportunities, and buying investments in different regions of the world. I have really enjoyed being a student of the international markets and it was enjoyable to keep up with international current events and news as I had most likely been there (that country or region).

I have developed not only from my job but also during my time at Emirates, I have bought a property and then managed to live through, survived, and maintained my investments through the worst World Economic Crisis since the 1930s. I also, completed my Bachelor of Multimedia degree which is also fully paid off thank god.

Here is a fun list of things I’ve learnt during my 3.8yrs with Emirates and living overseas in Dubai:

Traveling is one of the best forms of education.
• Make the most of the opportunities which are presented before you.
• Do everything with a positive attitude and your life will be open to more doors.
• Never give up with what you want. (such as for my study, property problems and job search. If I gave up on these then I would of not achieved success)
• Find your true love because she/he will bring you the most happiness to your world.
Traveling with your partner is one of the best ways to learn and test each other and the relationship.
 • Build a supportive network around your world, of positive people such as your friends, partner, business associates, work colleagues, and family.
• Ask questions always.
• Keep learning always.
• Ill never miss 3am departure flights and arriving back from flights at dawn. (stuffs up your sleeping pattern for the next 24hrs and crew do this every week!)
• I never want to serve passengers again on an aircraft, and instead, I want to be served as a passenger (traveling business class always) in the future.
• I’ll always miss paying only 10% of an airfare.
• I’ll always miss staying in 4-5 star hotels and resorts around the world for free.
• I’ll always miss collecting $100 of spending cash when I land in a new country.
• Physically and mentally challenging yourself yearly by pushing your limits is lifelong rewarding experience
• Enjoy life and live life to the max.
• Have a life long goal and dream which you are continuously working towards on a daily basis (while still enjoying your life).
• Asia is now the world economic power.
• Working for someone else is not the answer for an early retirement.
• Paying not tax is awesome (we don’t pay tax in the Middle East).
• Work unions (only in the Western World) carry a large and powerful influence on the outcome of the employees working conditions.

i hope ur well....thank u for sharing ur story with us,,,,,
regarding what u should pursue in your future....i think of course u should follow ur heart and what ur heart tells u....and whats right for u ect...
BUT if i was in ur shoes...i would 100% go for the emirates cc job..
ur only 23 years old, u have all ur life to work in ur field in engineering...u can do that job when ur 40, or 50 or even 60...this job will always be there...BUT the emirates job wont always be here for u...the max age for emirates is 35....and why not explore the world, grow as a person...travel each corner of the world...ect....even if u could do the ek cc job for 1-2 years...
i think the ek cc job is a once in a lifetime thing....the engineering thing will always be there....
i totally think u should just take 1-2 years and fly the world and do the ek thingy......u can still later on grow and develop as a engineer....
we dont want u to turn 50 years old and sit there and think WHY didnt i do this....
life is too short....go out there and enjoy life.....ur still soo young......
and i bet all u did up to this point was to study study study...and isnt it time for u to relax a little and just put the books aside and do something completely different....
that is what i personally think... :-)
whatever u do...do what u would enjoy..and love to do..
wish u the best dear gharbi!!!

  10. Hii
First I'd like to thank you sharing your experience working for EK.

I recently applied my application to join EK as cabin crew on the internet so i want to ask you some question.
I'm russian living in Angola and I have both citizenship and I'm now working for TAAG - Angolan Airline (Angolan flag carrier company) in maintenance department as maintenance planner. TAAG is considered a good employer here, my incomes are perhaps the same as a new cabin crew member.

Unfortunately I'm living 15y already here and I can't used to Angola. My family is all here, and my father is angolan so somehow it was the reason to make me stay here for to long.
Therefor, my patience has ended to live here, I want to change the county and aviation in Angola is not given sufficient importance so I'm feeling somewhere somehow stopped in time and learning by myself things about aviation.

    My questions are:
How's the recruitment process? There's no open day here so how do think It's not a problem, perhaps I'll have to go some places for it?
I really want to leave Angola and join EK but I'm feeling like in the future "Have I done correct step, leaving the job that I have already?"
And now reading your article, is it right that you'll only sign a contract for 3y or it is renewable contract?

    Appreciate your help.

this post above isnt my story, its a story written by another girl about her experience with ek....
i havnt worked for ek myself but i have done emirates od, ad, fi...so i know a little bit about that part though....
u can read about my emirates recruitment process here and how the days was:

      http://cabincrewdreamer.blogspot.se/2012/09/emirates-recruitment-process-year-2010.html

you can read about the ek process here too from another girl who wrote about hers:

      http://hollyintheclouds.wordpress.com/2013/05/25/the-application-process/

you can either apply for assessment and get invited to one....or attend any open day anywhere u like.....just check this link:

      http://www.emiratesgroupcareers.com/english/Careers_Overview/cabin_crew/CabinCrewAssessmentDays.aspx

for what places they go to.....and u just show up for a open day...no invitation needed...
the ek contract yes its renewable...at first its 3 years...than u sign on for more years.....u can work for ek as long as u want actually...as long as u have a good performance file ect....
i think in life we all should do what make us happy and some of these stuff we want ...we have to take a risk for it...leave our countries and previous jobs or whatever it is...and if we dont take that risk how would new doors ever open for us....
i advice u to try and try ur chance...and see how it goes....myself im going to attend a open day in few weeks to try my chance too..
also try with etihad as well..they are a good company too...check their career website...i used to work for etihad as a cabin crew....similar company like ek.........
wish u the best dear good luck

  12. Hello,

I have read your post and I love it, I find it quite honest... I would really like to work for Emirates but I also have a relationship so I am not sure what to do... Is there any way my bf and I can live together in the accommodation they provide for me, even though he does not work for Emirates? As far as I understood it is shared with other girls, but each of us has her own room so I wonder if that would be doable.. I would love that job but I also love him so I am not sure how to do that :(

yeah as crew everyone has access to a flight swapping system or flight request system....so u have chances to request flights or swap with others ect........

  15. Thanks for your wonderful site, good to read about your EK experiences. Just a question ... I have been working for a Dutch airline for 15 years now and I am thinking of switching to an airline in the Middle East (my family is living overthere, working for Shell). However, during flight duties I always wear glasses (due to dry air) ... Is this also allowed at Emirates? Can´t find any information about this at their website.

    Best regards, Kate.

    1. hi Kate
yeah its allowed to wear glasses, as long as the glasses are approve by the grooming manager...so u have to bring them to dubai once u got the job and get them approved there...cause they want everyone to look the same and if anyone use glasses they want those to use discrete kind of glasses ect....
      wishing u the best

you know the thing with the emirates recruitment event and who get chosen and who doesnt ect....i have been to many emirates open days/assessments and finals ect...and i kind of thinkg its all about luck....
i have seen worse candidates getting this job..and i seen perfect candidates not getting this job...
emirates dont require candidates to have much to apply really...everyone can apply...
you mentioned ur studies isnt that good....but all emirates require is for people to have completed there high school thats all...candidates doesnt need to have all A grades or anything...just completed high school...
there is a mystery to me who get chosen and who doesnt...
most people keep trying and trying until they get it
its all a game...and we just need to keep applying.....
so this is all i can share with u dear......cause no one really knows who gets chosen....truly ANYONE can get chosen.....
and candidates doesnt need to have anything special or extra to get chosen
its kind of all about luck...or whatever...

good luck dear and i wish u the best

    Thanks again.

    1. ur welcome dear...whatever questions u have i dont mind helping out and sharing the info i got.... those who get a invitation to attend a assessment than its only those who were selected that will attend it..no one else can join....
but it seems ek sometimes write the address of the venue on their website....even if it says invite only...sometimes candidates that didnt get a invite think they can just show up without a invite...so expect candidates attending your assessment...if the address is shown at the ek career site....
sometimes if a lot of people will show up without invite than they will have a ´´open day´´ and call those to show up for the assessment the day after...
      it all depends....
if 60+ people show up...they will make it a open day
if 60 and less will show up, it will be a assessment.....
yes if u get the invite, it means they chose u to attend this...u got selected by them and they reviewed ur resume/pics....
ex i know this friend that got a invite for her ek ad...and like i mentioned above tons of people showed up without invite thinking they could just come...without invite...because ek had put the address of the venue at their website...so around 200+ people showed up....unfortunately...they had to make a open day from it.....and the recruiter didnt tell those without invite to go home....she let everyone attend ..and it became a open day
      so it all depends.....what happens....
      good luck dear
      have a lovely day

  18. Hello, thanks for your amazing share of this story in EK,

I have been successfully picked to start the job at Emirates. The only thing I want to ask you is how much you can go home where you of corse pay for your own ticket besides the annual leave. Because I have a Fiance and I cannot stand to not see him for a whole year, and therefore I need to travel home maybe every third month or so. Will they allow something like that you think? and another question when is the earliest to resign the job without any financial consequenses.

    Thank you so much.

    Best Wishes,

congratulations dear for scoring the job with ek
thats sooo amazing and exciting ...wish u all the best on this new chapter of urs
you guys have 30days annual leave..most crew divide this into 10 each....example they go home 3 times a year/ 10days each...
also u guys have access to flight swaps and flight requests...so u can swap flights with ur co workers...and fly off to where u live..if ek fly there....or u can request flights...flights to the destination u live...if ek fly there...
a lot of crew request days off as well..ex 4 days in a row in 1 week ect...then they fly home ect...
so crew have tons of options to fly home and visit family/friends...
after 6 months when ur probation is finished ur free to resign whenever u want...
      the contract isnt binding...
as long as u finish 6 months :-)

  19. Hi, its been a while since anyone posted but I have to ask a question. I heard a lot about the laws in Dubai, no relationships, no tan tops and so on, so on. Apparently you are not allowed to be alone in the same room with opposite gender and if you get caught you can even go to jail. Could you please tell me from your personal experience if thats true and what the situation is like? Thank you in advance!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. hi dear
about all of that you wrote...
      every situation is different....
its all about respecting other countries culture/traditions ect...
when we live in UAE we have to have this in mind that we are guests in that country and we should act and be a certain way in respect for them...
said this...but still u can be free and do whatever u want....
i think people have to come to Dubai to see for themselves how things are...because it seems the media/rumors has created a story of its own of how dubai is...which isnt really the truth....
of course people can have relationships...but u cant really be out in the public and make out infront of people...or kiss in public and all that.....
whatever u do in ur privacy of ur home ur allowed to do...
of course u can be in the same room as the opposite gender....
no u wont go to jail if anyone finds u with a female/male in a room all by urselves...
there are clubs in hotels that people go to and they serve alcohol and people can dress how they like there...party dresses and all :-)
there are beaches u can go to and have bikini on and everything...both female and male people at that beach....
but in shopping malls they have this dress code they wish people to respect..ex female can have skirts but knee lenght...and tops that cover ur shoulders...no one will throw you in jail if u went inside a shopping mall with tops and miniskirt..but there are guards that might tell u to go and change clothes....
here u can check this link...its a website from dubai..party photos from dubai clubs....and here u can see how people dress in dubai at clubs:

      http://www.dubaiparty.ae/photo-style-1/

about alcohol, your allowed to have that...there are these alcohol license u can buy...that gives u the right to buy and have it in ur home.....in clubs ur free to drink that ect....
but its not allowed to have a drink in ur hand out in public streets or malls ect...only inside clubs or the privacy of ur home...

from personal experiences, you are free to do whatever you wish to....
dubai is truly a multicultural place with loads of freedom that people dont really know until u visit that place....
but again all people have to have in mind is to have respect for certain things....
hope this gives u a picture of how things are :-)
      have a lovely day dear
      take care

  20. Hello!! How Are you? Well, I've been reading some of the comments here...the thing is that I'm from Costa Rica and would like to go to an OD that is taking place in Canada next month! I tried with QA in 2012 and after the FI I was waiting for almost a year! They came back in 2013 and 2 weeks after that I was rejected. My biggest concern is my age because I'll be 33 on February (but I look a younger jaja). I read here that the limit is 35 but I've also read that they prefer people on their 20's. I'm seriously thinking about going...I know that it's a HUGE risk, but I wouldn't like to regret thinking "what could had happend if I had gone"...that thought will kill me the rest of my life!! If don't do it know, I think I won't have more chances!! :)

    1. hi dear ana
      hope ur well
      thank u, im good
regarding the age, 100% i think u should try ur chances with emirates still...
while they might prefer to hire younger people below 30 years old....still i heard there are people above 30´s that get hired too...
also try with etihad too....etihad is more welcoming with different ages than ek is...
and dont give up on qatar....
as long as u can and have the energy or the possibility to attend these od/ad with these 3 airlines DO IT....
u wont lose anything....the only thing u will lose is money, time lol...but its an investment for our future.....so if u CAN...do it....why not......

congrats for coming this far with ek...
regarding ur age, i assume u will turn 21 soon, so i bet ek knows this too....so as soon as u turn 21 u will most probably join if u get successful...because no one can join until they turn 21....
but ur age is perfect though, emirates love to hire young candidates like yourself...and u have even got the email from them
so hopefully soon ur golden call will come shortly..
      wishing u the best

but i do have friends from ek though and thats where i got the info and knowledge from ek...ect....
as for the timeline for the golden call from ek...there is no fix timeline for this....every candidate has a unique timeline...for some it might take few weeks for some few months..
i remember a girl once told me she got her golden call after 2 weeks, her process was very fast..lucky her....
another girl told me her process took 6 months....from date of application to joining....
so all we can do is to have a positive mindset and have fingers crossed :-)

  23. Hi how do cabin crew get paid? do they get bank account and if one wants to help a family member overseas can they send money or if they want to buy a property overseas.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. hello dear chris
when the crew joins, ek will help them open a bank account and when the crew gets the salary the salary will be sent to that account...
and yes a lot of crew do send money overseas...i did it few times too
when u open ur bank account..thats ur personal bank account...ur free to do whatever u want...with that....
wishing u the best on ur open day dear...and yes for certain reasons, they can schedule the final interview within weeks...but that doesnt happen often though...most often the recruitment event is 2-3 days...open day-interview....
i have flown to ek open days myself and often i have booked flight/hotel for 3 nights...the open day was saturday...i flew in on friday...and flew out on monday....to be safe....in case of flight delays ect ect....
and as for tips about the open day....there is a lot to be said about this...so i advice u to read these posts:::

      http://cabincrewdreamer.blogspot.se/2014/12/dream-big.html

i have written tons about these...in these posts :-)
as for the swimming test...there will be no swimming test on the recruitment days...u will do this test once u join the company in ur training....

  25. Ohh haha yea im still waiting for that call :)) but i do have patience i keep on praying that theyll call. By the way i know this might sound funny but i dint know how to swim do i need to take swimming lessons before applying for EK? And i have googled the EK accomodations they look so amazing haha. And why is it there are. Only few male flight attendants? Thanksss

    1. regarding the swimming...i do advice you to take swimming lessons if possible.. during the ditching exam as they call it, u guys will be in a pool and do certain tests...but it wont be like swimming back and forth..like a typical swimming lesson....it might be swimming to a raft and jump inside or with ur group in the water swim to the other side,,,or do whatever they tell u ect......u guys will be wearing a life vest too....
as for male and female cabin crews...unfortunately there is perhaps 80% females and 20% males....
i actually have no idea why there is more females working as crew than males....

I will like to inquire, is it possible for a cabin crew to move within the organizational set up of either emirates or etihad? For instance, if i am a cabin crew member with emirates, can i resign and take up another job within emirates, or move within the ranks of cabin crew? is there career advancement.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Yes 100% there are many opportunities, to grow within the company...you can resign and search jobs with etihad...
you dont need to resign if u wish to get another position within ek....there are a lot of office jobs people can do after they work as crew....as long as u have the qualifications ect....

  28. Hi, I´m very curious. There is an open day in my country tomorrow. I´m 20 years old and my birthday is i in 9 months.. then I will turn 21. I want to go to the open day but I heard about black list. That if your are not successful enough they put you on a black list. My mom said me to go and make a good impression and show them that you are very interested. I´m graduating high school in 2 weeks, I´ve graduated from a flight attendant training at a aviation school and speak 3 fluent languages and 2 pretty good. I have no idea if I should go or not.

    1. hi dear
regarding this black list you mentioned, i never heard of this and im pretty sure something like this doesnt exist....everyone are allowed to attend how many open days as they can...i know this girl that attended emirates open day 8 times and on her 8th times she got the job...so there is no limits really....
but im not sure if you will get the job now though as you arnt 21 yet...but will be in 9 months....
but for the experience, if i were you, i would 100% go...why not....everyone are welcome to attend a open day...but know that you wont probably get the job at the moment....example if you would attend a open day and you would turn 21 in 3-4 months, than they would hire you because you arnt far away from turning 21.....
but if i were you I WOULD go!!!
100% go and see how things are....
      you wont loose anything.....
and there is no black list either :-)
if you do go tomorrow enjoy the experience... and good luck

  29. Hello. How are you? I went to the interviews for Emirates. The possition is actually customer service (it could be at the airport or call center). I received an email on July, 23rd saying that I was shorlisted but there were not positions available at the moment. But in case they do call me and offer me something I would like to know about the work conditions, because I read all kinds of horrible things on the Internet and I'm not sure if I should accept. Do you know anyone working on a ground position?

I dont know if you had a chance to ask questions to the recruiter during ur interview, if u had that was the time u had a chance to ask questions. also u havnt gotten the contract yet..so wait and see ....ex lets say they call u and offer u the job and u accept...after that call or email...they will send u the contract....u can read the contract...than i bet u will know more about all of this in the contract....so either u accept or decline after u read the contract.....u have the right to accept or decline...after they sent u the contract...
what i would do is wait and see.....
but other than this, i dont know much about ground positions... in ek...

Hello :)i have to say the story you've shared was really helpfull and inspiring ...i come from cyprus and have attented an open day in Athens 2 months ago..so everything went really good and i got my golden call about a month ago..i am joining ek on January 1st..yhe first day of 2016 ..i am excited and really looking forward to go to dubai..unfortunatelly i do not know anybody who's currently working for emirates and i really have a thousand questions :p
It would be really helpfull if you could help me :)
1.can you request to live with someone from the cabin crew on the same shared appartment?or they put you randomly in one?
2.my ticket says i am arriving in dubai at 1:35 in the morning..what happens after i arrive the airport?
3.how easy is to get a promotion to bussines class or first class and how much time aproximatelly is required in order to be able to recieve a promotion?
4.i ve seen some photos of cabin crew wearing trousers uniforms instead of skirts?is trousers also the uniform and you can choose what to wear?
5.how expensive it is for a woman to live in dubai..i mean,in order to be perfect for that job you need to visit hair saloons make your nails make up ,beauty saloons and stuff...are all those in logical prices?
Thanks a loooooot i am really looking forward to hearing from you ;)

congratulations dear for getting the golden call and everything....thats awesome... :-)
and so cool to have a joining date of jan 1st, a new year, a new chapter in your life...thats super cool....
as for the questions u have::::::::::

1.can you request to live with someone from the cabin crew on the same shared appartment? or they put you randomly in one?
      ----
usually the put u randomly with someone...u can request once u join...but there might be some things they think when they put roommates together, ex if there is smokers, then they put the smokers in the same flat ect....but other than this randomly u will be getting a rommate...it might happen that u get someone from ur batch...but thats lucky if u get it....so it will be a surprise for u :-) than after 6 months, once ur probation period is done, if u ex want to swap flats ect u can do that.....but u have to wait 6 months to do this.....
      ----
2.my ticket says i am arriving in dubai at 1:35 in the morning..what happens after i arrive the airport?
      ----
there will be someone waiting for u...to help u go to ur flat.....probably someone holding a sign with ur name or something :-)
      -------
3.how easy is to get a promotion to business class or first class and how much time approximately is required in order to be able to receive a promotion?
      ----------
with these middle eastern airlines its pretty easy to get promoted...with ek i heard its 22 months until u get a promotion...for some it might be sooner...or for others later.....if u have a clean good file so to speak...and not so many sick days ect ect...
      ---------
4.i ve seen some photos of cabin crew wearing trousers uniforms instead of skirts?is trousers also the uniform and you can choose what to wear?

      Delete
    2. -----------
with ek u can chose to wear either pants or skirt...ur choice...skirt and pants are a part of the ek uniform.... :-) but the ek crew is lucky cause they can choose to wear either pants or skirt as they wish....not like etihad where u have to wear the skirt at all times...only there is certain flights u have to wear pants....
      -------------
5.how expensive it is for a woman to live in dubai..i mean,in order to be perfect for that job you need to visit hair saloons make your nails make up ,beauty saloons and stuff...are all those in logical prices?
      ----
ek crew get discount in various shops....and services.....the salary u guys get is enough to do everything..in moderation...and save some after wards.....it all depends on where u wish to shop and what u do ect.....but 100% its affordable and u can even safe each month too.....it all depends on the person.. :-)
      ---------

i hope these answers have helped u get some insight :-)
wishing u all the best dear
good luck with this new chapter in ur life

  32. Hellooo!!i just saw your answer!thank you so much it was really helpfull..
I would like to ask something more..I just learnt that tbey split people in groups and some of them are trained for a380 and some others for a340 and a 330 ...I also heard that the if you are trained for 330 or 340 there are not so many good destinations..and you fly turnarounds mostly..you do not get as much money as flying with a380 and you have to fly with those types of planes for the whole 3 years!!!can you tell me what do you know abpit that please?and how are people divided in groups are there some requirements? Can you request training on a380 ? Pleade help!i am soooo stressed about that!!

    1. Hello dear
Regarding the different groups with A380/A340/A330 ect...yeah i have heard rumors about all of that...but if im right, i think they used to do this few years ago...while now they train everyone on everything ect...
as for salary everyone get similar salary + or-, its not like a person flying with a certain type of aircraft get more money than the other....
as for flying on a certain aircraft for 3 years, i havnt heard of this before....
and no there is no requirements about who is put into what batch ect...i think they do this randomly....
also i heard after 22 months u get promoted to business/first class...so than u get trained on other aircrafts too ect....
this is all the info i can give u dear about this topic...i dont know more than this about this.....
But dont worry about the salary though as its the same for everyone.....
Here is a very good emirates cabin crew blog....see if u can ask this girl some questions and i bet she will be able to help u more :-)

  33. Hey congrats on leaving EK! I'm here for almost 5 months now and I absolutely do not like the job, and unfortunately everyone I know that I joined with hates it just as much. I'm not sure if it's because I have traveled extensively in my life already (nothing on my rosters that I've never been to) or the fact that I have 2 degrees and was earning twice the amount of money back home including the freedom of speech and respect from colleagues as well supervisors. Many of the CC senior to me (1-2 years) have expressed dissatisfaction as well. Will hopefully resigning this month. Sorry to be a hater, but I think it's important that new joiners know the threatening environment that is Emirates even during training college. Everyone i know is tired, lonely, and crew you fly with are just the same and don't care about others just about landing and just want to sleep or get back home.
I'm glad you found this experience one that has been worthwhile. There many perks, but I do believe the consequences outweigh the perks. I on the other hand have told friends interested in Emirates not to apply.. but only as a last resort if they are unable to find a job back home or are in desperate situations. But on a positive note, Goodluck on your new journey after CC life!

  36. Hi. I want so badly to apply to Emirates but I'm working on losing some weight first and then apply in May or June for the latest. I was feeling a little down because I was seeing that the chances of being hired past the age of 30 is very slim. However, I'm seeing on your blog that there may be hope. You said a friend of yours got hired at age 34. I'm 31 years old now. Do you think I still have a chance. I'm asking in case Emirates has changed their maximum age to 29 or 30. I would really appreciate your advice. Thank you.

    1. hello dear..
regarding age...yes that is true that once we turn 30 our chances are slim to score the cc job with emirates...BUT this does not mean no 30+ gets hired ect...there is a chance...but the % is very slim in this day and age.
but i totally think u should try..
but i do know etihad and qatar is more welcoming of 30+ and they give more chances to 30+ than emirates does.
when i mentioned a friend got hired at the age of 34, this was year 2013....and fast forward 2 years...things has changed a bit and eks hiring strategy has changed....
the % of 30+ they hire is slim compared to years ago....
while ek prefer to hire candidates below the age of 30....there is still people who get the job ex being 31 as u are ect....
said this....dont forget to look at other airlines too such as etihad and qatar...as i mentioned they welcome 30+ more than ek does at this point....
wishing u all the best dear..
      GOOD LUCK with everything...

    2. Hi Cabincrewdreamer,

Thank you very much for you're response. I'm sorry for all the following questions but I value your opinion. I really like your blog.

      1) Do you think that I should apply to both airlines at the same time or apply to Emirates first and if that doesn't work out, then apply to Etihad?

      2) What is Etihad's policy on weight? Is it similar to Emirates where you have to be slim?

      3) I think I read on one of your blog posts that you enjoyed working at Etihad. I think I'm more partial to Emirates because from what I've seen on social media, it's quite a coveted job giving me the impression that Emirates is the best. I could be wrong of course. What did you like about Etihad and do you think one airline is better than the other in terms of being cabin crew?

Again, I apologize for all the questions.

      Thank you.

no worries dear, u can ask as many questions u like or whenever, i will always be here answering :-)
      as for your questions:::

      1) Do you think that I should apply to both airlines at the same time or apply to Emirates first and if that doesn't work out, then apply to Etihad?
      -------------

apply to both...and do both in the same time...as it takes a longgg time for both airlines with their hiring process and recruitment process...i think u should start with both!!!
i love both companies....and both companies offer pretty similar job packages...so scoring either one of these companies is a victory i think....
      ---------

      2) What is Etihad's policy on weight? Is it similar to Emirates where you have to be slim?
      ---
as for weight, as long as u have a normal bmi u should be fine...although etihad is more welcoming with curvy women than emirates is...of course emirates hire curvy and thin...but i feel etihad is more versatile than emirates is.
      ----

    4. 3) I think I read on one of your blog posts that you enjoyed working at Etihad. I think I'm more partial to Emirates because from what I've seen on social media, it's quite a coveted job giving me the impression that Emirates is the best. I could be wrong of course. What did you like about Etihad and do you think one airline is better than the other in terms of being cabin crew?

      -----

as i mentioned above i think both are equally amazing...its just emirates is promoting their company much better than etihad does...emirates is more into promoting their company in a different way than etihad does....but they pretty much offer crew same thing as working environment and salary and lifestyle ect ect...
but its up to each of us to choose what we like the best...but 100% try to attend both airline open days/assessments and see what each company has to offer ect....
i loved working for etihad and it was hands down the best year of my life...
but this was actually not my first choice of airline when i started to apply....my dream company was emirates but i never got the job with ek...at the end i got etihad..but it turned out to be the best for me and i wouldnt want anything else than etihad when i got etihad...
so i think its up to each and one of us to go after what we like....
wishing u the best dear...and if there is any questions u have know i will be 1 click away :-) take care and good luck!!

  37. Hello Maam,
Wonderful article there, I am motivated by d way u explained things in your comments.
I am stuck with a life turning decision to make, I am selected for x airline as a cc, but I am also completing my mba ( last 3 months ). I have to make decision for myself to choose either cc or an mba marketing job. I was working for an travel company earlier, so I have pretty good exp in handling customers. Being an cabin crew was my dream, when I was selected I was the happiest person on earth it was like achieving everything. But I wonder what will happen to my family if I left of this job, who will take care of them, what will happen to my partner whom I am attached from last 6 years. These types of questions are troubling me from past 2 weeks. I have also heard that cc job is not for life time. I am currently 25 years of age. I request you to help me get out of this trouble.
    Thank You !

i read ur story....and what my view is....
these airline pay u a lot of money, and u live tax free, rent free, and u get a lot of discounted tickets for u, ur family and friends...and i assume u got the job with either, qatar, etihad or emirates...
so working for one of these airlines...it is a big achievement i feel.
a lot of crew send back money to their families, so u could help ur family with that if u so wish....
also after some time, u might get promoted to work in business/first class and thats even more money...for u :-)
i know a lot of crew who have saved their money to buy themselves new cars or houses ect or for education later on.
i kind of feel the mba marketing jobs will always be there. But these airline jobs will not always be there for u because of age. ex now u are 25 years old, which is the perfect age to work as a cabin crew. but after 30+ ur chances in getting a job with these airlines is very slim. i know crew who have worked 8+ years as a cabin crew later on became cabin managers and now working 10+ years. later on if u want u can work in the office ect, so these airlines offer a lot of opportunities.
u say who will take care of ur family when u leave, and u can 100% help ur family by sending them money, thats one way of helping, if this is something u wish to do. also these companies offer housing allowance, some of them do...i dont know if u are married or not, but if u are married u can bring ur partner and take the housing allowance and live with ur partner. for some people these jobs isnt for life yes thats true...ex a lot of people might see these cc jobs as a experience period in their life, they might work 1 year and leave ect.
but i know tons of other crew who have more goals within the airline and they climb up an up and become more successful.
I know crew who have later became cabin managers, later worked in HR, later worked as a trainer ect ect.....
these jobs doesnt come everyday....these opportunities doesnt come everyday....
so this is my personal view about all of this....
u do what feels right for u :-)
      wishing u all the best
and congrats again for this job
      good luck

    2. Hello again Cabincrewdreamer,
First of all thank you so much for your valuable reply.
I am sorry but I have not got in the above mentioned airline (yes I will eventually get there). I have got offer from other airline. Yes I absolutely agree with the money part. How much time or years it takes to get upgraded to business class or a senior position, I mean what is the hierarchy level in cabin crew jobs? May be I am afraid coz I am a fresher for this job, that’s why a pre information gathering is a must of a candidate like me. I am not married but may be I will get married in 2-2.5 years. What will happen then will I able to give my wife and family enough time they require? how much time we actually get to spend with our family when we are flying ? Yes I have many goals planned as I want to work in airline industry only weather it’s a commercial job or a service related job. I am very passionate about airline industry. I know the value of this job and also what experience I will gain once started. Just that you know some times life gives us 2 roads, you have to choose one as at the end of road you don’t have to feel that, life would have been different if I would had took the other road. That’s why me not rushing into faster decision but I want to be sure what I choose for me and then don’t have to regret it.
I know me being so frank about it. It will be a great help once again if you solve my above problem and push me one step closer to my dreams.
Thank you ! have a nice day !
      Yash

    3. Hi dear
u are welcome dear....if i can help i will always do so, the purpose of my blog is just this... :-)
      so about your questions,,,

the info i have is only about qatar/etihad and emirates...i have no knowledge or info about other airlines..and i dont know which airline u got the job with....but i will still answer ur questions in regards to these airlines i know....and perhaps u can get a picture of how it ''might'' be for the airline u have gotten the job from.....just to get some insight in the aviation world so to speak....

about how long it will take you to get promoted to business class/first class all depends on the airline.... with etihad it takes anything between 1-2 years to get promoted....with emirates after 22 months and i think with qatar its anywhere between 2-3 years....so i have heard....

but i advice u to check this cabin crew forum:

      http://www.cabincrew.com/forums

for more info in regards to the airline ur seeking info about.....

usually airlines give 30days annual leave....and we crew would split these 30 days into 10 each...like approx every 3 months we would fly off to our home country and see our family and friends....if we wish we to split our leave like this..also bare in mind we had these swap&request system, so each month we were able to swap flights with other crew, if that would be possible...also request certain flights....ex if ur family lives in london, we would try to swap/request flights to london...and in this way see our friends and family during our layover.... :-)

also i advice u to read all the informative stuff in this link as well to get tons of info::::::

      http://cabincrewdreamer.blogspot.se/2015/04/dubai-flow-motion.html

i understand u are facing two choices in life....and two roads...so i wish u all the best with choosing that path which is right for u....
      have a lovely night dear
      take care/// :-)

    1. Hi dear
often i recommend people to attend open days without applying. We dont need to register to attend open days. So i advice you to just attend a open day. Also i know Qatar sometimes come to dubai or abu dhabi for open days as well. If you are interested in Qatar attend one there too :-)
You are the perfect age, these airlines prefer to hire younger people like yourself. And yes they do hire all nationalities, there might be certain nationalities they wont hire because of political reasons or whatever, but Filipinos is not one of them. I wish you all the best
      Good luck

We do not need to have previous cabin crew experience to apply to emirates or even etihad or qatar. There is no need to apply online before attending an open day, u can if u wish, but i advice to not apply before.

I am graduating from my Msc soon but I have always enjoyed going to airports and wondered if I could cut it as a CC member....Do you think I would be considered even though I wear glasses? Are they very strict in their standards?

100% u have an equal chance to become a cabin crew for these middle eastern airlines just like the other person. Pretty much everyone can apply and try their chances...EVEN people with glasses...
but the only thing is that they only approve of a certain % in regards to our vision...
u can check here emirates pre-employment medical paper and i think they mention about vision ...whats approved and whats not:::

      http://view.samurajdata.se/psview.php?id=0bb3066d&page=1&all=1

and here u have the etihad medical paper:::

      --

yes we can wear glasses on board but 1st they have to approve of ur vision...but remember do not wear glasses when u attend the recruitment events...use contact lenses.
than after u passed that they need papers from ur eye doctor...and u have to wear approved glasses once working onboard...as people cant wear whatever eye glasses ect...it has to be approved in regard to uniform standard thingy....
good luck and may u succeed dear amber
      have a lovely evening

I have a little concern for Emirates cabin crew interview, you see I have a little cut mark on my right eyebrow, it looks normal not weird. will i'll get rejected due to this? or I should hide it with makeup and don't reveal it to them? if they find it later will it cause any problems? please advise. thanks!

    1. hi dear
thank u i hope ur well too :-)
in regards to ur question about u having a scar on your right eyebrow. actually i also have a scar on my right eye brow and i covered it with a black eye liner. if possible try and hide it with some black eye liner, and make it look natural.
these airlines dont accept scars like this on the face, so if i were u i would hide it and not declare it.
than when u get the job during training and while on duty working u have to cover this scar at all times. but on ur days off u dont need to do this.
if u cover it well there is no way anyone would find out.
as i told u, i have a scar very noticeable on my right eyebrow and for 1 year when i worked as a cabin crew i hide it with a black eye liner.
just find some eye liner that would match your eye brow color and practice to hide it so it would look natural until u do ur emirates recruitment event.
this is my advice for u
      good luck dear
      have a lovely sunday

I'm a Muslim and wear a headscarf would that affect there decision? Also I don't wear skirts so will turn up to the open day in smart trousers

Can female cabin crew wear trousers?

    1. Hi dear
      I hope you are well
I am sorry to say but Etihad, Emirates and Qatar do not allow their cabin crew to wear headscarf during work, also as female crew they all have to wear a skirt during work.
The only time the female crew are allowed to wear pants during work is if there are some medical conditions involved which they have to wear pants and a doctor has to approve that ect ect.
During their recruitment events everyone is advice to wear skirts as well.
Im assuming you were asking about Etihad, qatar and emirates,,,,but i do know a girl that was allowed to wear a headscarf and their female crew could wear pants and that was with the airline Saudi Airlines
I wish you all the best dear
      Enjoy your day

    2. Thank you for getting back To me so quickly yes it was for those airlines Emirates, Qatar and etihad it's just I saw some picture online with cabin crew in trousers so didn't want to assume it be fine and just ask, As I thought it be allowed due to religious belief. However i have read a few articles online which mentions cabin crew have to wear skirts, but wasn't sure on the authenticity.

    3. I'm currently working for swissport as a passenger service agent (check in, boarding, Arrivals) and was thinking of what to do after and a few people suggested cabin crew so was looking into it before I go to any open days. I studied aviation at college so thought I'd fit right in but didn't know That the headscarf and wearing trousers would be an issue. But will look into it further and see what airlines are available for me.

    4. Hi dear
It is truly unfortunate that these airlines doesnt allow people to wear a headscarf while at work, but it isnt only a headscarf these airlines doesnt approve of,, there is a lot more stuff these airlines doesnt allow... Ex with Emirates they dont hire anyone over the age of 31 :-( :-(
But with Etihad and Qatar their max age is 35.
While example for people working onboard British Airways or other airlines they can work as crew until they are 65 :-)
There is so much more which i cant discuss on a public forum like this, but u get the idea what im thinking of perhaps :-)
There is a lot of rules/regulations that i doesnt approve of and think is ridiculous to be honest. But what to do, it is what it is...its their airlines, their rules.... :-/
But yes do look into other airlines and see if you can find something
      Have a blessed weekend dear
      Take care

    5. I know it's a shame it vary between each airline. I'm only 22 so age isn't an issue. I know British airway cabin crew have just won the right to wear trousers on flight but can't wear hijab due to "health and safety" . And air France have just ruled there staff to wear headscarf on or after the teran flights but crew aren't happy with that.

Hopefully I'll find the best airline for me that will meet my needs. I've flown with pia and the cabin crew wear headscarf but wouldn't want to work for them due to there poor service and working environment. So haven't got a list of choices to choose from.

    6. I wish you all the best dear in finding something that would make you happy and fulfill your needs.
Also check Gulf Air, cause when we enter Gulf Airs career site, the first page most of the crew in that picture have pants on :-) which is awesome.

  46. Hi, thank you for all your sharing. I want to become Emirates cabin crew very much, but have recently failed the round 2 interview during open day. Therefore, do i really have to wait 6 months before attending another open day again? Also, may i ask for some interview tips too? =) I have a small birthmark on my right cheek. Do you think this will affect my chance of becoming Emirates cabin crew?

    Thank you!

    1. Hi dear Angel
sorry that u were not successful during ur recent emirates recruitment event...
but no u dont need to wait 6 month to attend another open day...the thing is...if someone fail during the open day or assessment day...they can try all over again whenever they wish...
but once they reach to final interview..and if they do get a unsuccessful email after their final interview with emirates...they have to wait 3 months...after 3 months they can re-attend another emirates open day or re-apply again.
if u wish to have some interview tips...please write ur emails address in the comment section or contact me via the contact me form to ur right so i can send u some informative ebooks filled with tips.
in regards to ur birthmark on ur right cheek...it depends how it looks like, the size..ect
ex if u can cover it with makeup...than i would not declare this birthmark...
if it very visible even having makeup on....than better to declare it.
it all depends on how it looks like
but because it is on ur face...if i were u, and if i could cover this with makeup i would not declare this and not mention this to anyone.
      good luck dear
      have a lovely day

    1. hi dear
      hope ur well
thank u for ur kind words dear :-)
as for being 5'2...actually one of my friends were 5'2 when i joined etihad...and i i have flown with 2 other girls who were 5'2...
its all about being flexible...so do attend a etihad assessment and see how i goes :-)
but with emirates u have to be 160cm to apply...and qatar have a reaching test of 212cm...
      so etihad is better..
qatar doesnt allow tattoos...but it depends on where ur tattoo is..and the size of it..
but if its not visible while wearing the uniform...its ok to have tattoos with etihad and emirates...
and the scars u have...if they arnt that big and visible..i wouldnt declare them as u can cover them with makeup...
      with etihad and emirates...
with qatar they are more strict with tattoos and scars...
so i would try etihad if i were u :-)
      good luck dear

      Sorry for my late reply.
Yes there are a max age limit with EK. It seems they hire only up to 30-31 years old. I have not heard or seen anyone being 32,33,34,35+ getting the cabin crew job with EK this year 2018.
Who knows they might change this in the future.
      Sadly EK is ageist :-(
